It is a miss, but honestly the bigger miss in my opinion is just how subdued these things are. I was seriously considering a base V6 Raptor until I drove one and it nearly put me to sleep. I didn't really have any issues with the powertrain, but everything else is just so soft and comfortable that it just wasn't worth it.

They don't want to sell you a "discount" Raptor. If you want the V8 they put the most expensive one with the largest margin in there. Otherwise they keep the 3.5 because they'd rather sell you that engine in a regular F-150 anyway. This is a halo product with a wildly inappropriate MSRP, why would we expect Ford to not try to squeeze every penny out of the customer who just "has to have it". I just checked the 2 dealers closest to me. They have 1 Ranger (the ranger is tarted up; not a work truck) on the lot and 0 Mavericks. There is very little interest at Ford at selling value.

TRX owner here. Living in Ohio, a super truck really is a wonderful daily. It’s comforting to know no matter what the weather conditions are/what obstacle you may face, the truck will get through no problem. I find these to be incredibly pleasant to drive slow, but REALLY put a smile on your face when you mash the gas and feel the G’s + hear the supercharged V8 howl out of the rear sliding window. Never once have I thought “this isn’t worth it” when dropping $100+ on a fill up:)

I spent a week in South Dakota, part of it driving on rough roads. Never saw a Raptor on any of them, but did see a heck of a lot of Ram/Cummins working trucks. Did see a few Raptors., though, usually blasting past me at 90+ mph on I-90.

The issue Midwest issue applies to sports cars too. Flat straight roads everywhere here. Unless you make your own driving opportunities you'll never use a special purpose vehicle. I know there are offroading opportunities. Alex @ LSC does some of it with his lifted mercedes. The dunes aren't far. Sports cars you can take to a track, but there are places to play offroad if you look too.

i always say get a v8f150 35 to 55k depending short bed single cab or 4 dr and just boost (big turbo or big supercharger) and fuel 10 to 15k and you can make up to 1200whp or reliable 900whp. and you have a trx raptor r supercar killer!! You want fast then you get a street suspension tire setup 10k or go as extreme as you want with a offroad suspension. you are going to be faster better and cheaper than a v6 raptor or trx

I just cant get over Fords pricing with the Raptor. A few years ago it was a mid $50k truck and has jumped over $25k in base price. The R would be ok for $75k. I would rather Ford made a new base Raptor with a lesser Fox shock package and a 5.0 with a Ford Performance tune for $60k. If you want more power you can get any number of superchargers and 700hp and still be under $75k. The Tremor just isnt quite enough for the $60k base they want either. It should have more lift, better shocks and 35s.

I think one thing we have to admit to ourselves is that some things in life just aren't for "us' or attainable by the average person. Just like most of us aren't ever going to own a Ferrari, a yacht, a mansion, or be the CEO of a corporation. Its just not going to happen. Ford knows that most people can't afford the truck, but there are thousands that can, and thats all that matters to them. I don't see anything wrong with it. Its not like there aren't dozens of vehicles that are affordable by todays standards that people can get into. Of course the idea of spending 150k on a truck seems crazy. But when you have 150k to throw at something its probably a different situation.

Hate to say it, but there’s two big issues here. 1. The 10R, it’s confused and wonky in my GT, and every account I’ve heard from other owners it’s just a 10 Speed thing. It doesn’t perform well in big heavy vehicles, like a Raptor, when pushed to this power level. For this absurd price, it should’ve had the DCT meant to go with the GT500 or some other transmission. 2. The Coyote exists, there’s nothing stopping someone from going to a dealership, getting a Lariat or XLT, and slapping a VMP or a whipple blower on their normal truck and making better power and having better engine tuning. The Predator is a fantastic engine, but I don’t think any of us want to pay Predator repair prices when something like the Coyote exists and is cheaper to service, makes power extremely easily, and has massive aftermarket support.

Not really sure if the R was truly needed. I take my regular Raptor to do high speed terrain runs all the time and it’s already scarily fast off-road. Sometimes I think the truck gives me too much confidence!! Not sure how anyone is going to handle this extra power off-road. Maybe it’s cool for street racing, but too overkill for high speed off-roading. To the second point: I’m glad they made the truck so subdued and refined. Put the truck in quiet mode and it’s a Mercedes S Class on the highway. Sometimes I just want to have a pleasant and serene experience on a long road trip and the Raptor gives me just that. The TRX and other performance vehicles are just so damn loud all the time.

For half the price you can get a lariat f150 5.0 with stage 2 whipple at 775hp. Most people don’t take these off road anyway and you can get a 6.5’ bed which once you have it you can’t go back to the 5.5’ bed.

The skid plates, both bumpers, all 4 fenders, the hood, the tailgate, the wheels, the running boards, the tires, the T-case, the 4.10 gears, the drive modes, the adjustable exhaust, either engine w/ forged internals, the seats, the steering wheel, the shocks, the shock mounts, the coils, the axles, the entire rear and, are ALL bespoke/unique to the Raptor. You CANNOT “build a Raptor” for the price of buying one. You simply can’t.

@@MS-mr4zm Never said you could. I said most people don’t take them off-road anyway in which case all that suspension travel means nothing on the street. For the 5% of raptor owners who actually use their truck the way it was designed to it makes sense. For the rest a whipple on a standard f150 and saving 50k makes more sense.

@@Sptsmn700 as a guy on my 3rd F150 Raptor I can assure you many people take em off-road, & in terms of using something that’s purpose built? Infinitely more people use an F150 Raptor as it should be vs a corvette or GT500 or viper or Ferrari etc etc etc

I have 16 hidden cameras inside and out of my Raptor R. I parked at Menards on a Wednesday morning and I was only there for about 20 mins. When I got home and checked the footage, I counted close to 40 people went up to my truck to look inside. So now the wife goes into stores and I just stay in the truck.

The regular Raptor should've gotten the Coyote imo. Makes no sense that there isn't a 5.0 Raptor when they've already made regular F-150s with the 5.0. Obviously there's CAFE regulations to consider but still.

These things are dropping value quickly. My buddy ordered one when they were announced and dealer honored agreement at $136. 6 months ago you couldn’t touch on for less then $170. He totaled his and bought a new one last week at $132k.

My favorite gas powered trucks to this day is the gen 1 raptor with the 6.2l v8 and you can pick those up for under $30k and then have a similar experience for $100k less. To your point on new off-road capable trucks I would rather spend $88k on a well equipped Rivian R1T. Technically you could buy both the gen 1 6.2l raptor and the Rivian R1T for the price of the Raptor R. Great video as always gentleman.

Everything is not quite the same. They removed the Torsen LSD front differential due to the power from the new V8. Now torque up front is transferred via braking. Rear diff is still LSD with an electronic locker.

Better off getting a TRX to get it stolen or car jacked 😂 Brutal but so very true. Forget the price of these vehicles its the target on your back you have to think about. These things may cost you more than 160k. You may have to pay with your life if you get caught in the wrong situation with the way car theft is going nowadays.
