Hey Mark and Jack, I'm from Australia and have to say I have been watching you guys for a couple of years now and absolutely appreciate and respect every aspect of the style of reviewing of every vehicle you drive. It is very refreshing to hear an unbiased and engineering opinion on these cars, (especially the Chevy SS/ VF SSV) that you absolutely will not hear from ('hmmm') other reviewers. I own a SSV Sportwagon which I have heavily invested in (long story). I also understand how much hard work is involved to keep bringing us this quality content. Keep fighting the good fight and will always watch now and into the future.

That encore GX video is a masterpiece. The best part is when they do the driving segment and while Jack is trying to talk about the car, mark just plants his foot for like 20 seconds and gets that pile going like 100 mph, not caring about life or death. Just a blank expression of CUV-induced stupor

Yes, "regular people cars" make the most money. It is SO frustrating to see how about 99.9% of "automotive journalism" completely ignores the 99.9% of the cars that people actually drive every day. I appreciate your perspective on "normal" cars -- while most everyone else just repeats manufacturer hyperbole, and slobbers "everything is wonderful," I will never forget one of the words you use about some of those "normal" cars: "Disposable." I'm quite sure that some of those vehicles are built for longer-term durability and reliability, whereas others are just pure crap. So, yes, please help us understand which ones are worth the even modest sums of money we can spend on "normal" cars. I'm one of those subscribers who will watch every one of those.

I dailied a 2004 Automatic CRV for several years until I totaled it last year with about 150k miles on the odo. Inherited from a family member and kept extremely clean. I LOVED that car, the first two generations of CRV had more than enough 90s/00s Japanese quirkiness, way more analog than the boaty crossovers they became in the late 2000s. Not quite a proper Japanese off roader, but way better road manners. A super fun “runabout” car for camping and super practical for some labor and soaking up hundreds of garbage Boston area miles. I thought really hard about replacing it with a manual example, but the two I found were pretty beat up and they wanted $5-7k. I ended up in a Fiesta ST and I couldn’t be happier, aside from the fact that the giant factory rims feel like the auto equivalent of high heels on the aforementioned crappy roads.

I don't know if you want to touch the causality of gas prices arriving at where they are, but Doomberg (you can find his twitter) has amazing and digestible analysis on how gas prices got here, and why EV's can't make up for it. It'd be an amazing mashup having him on your show. I consider myself an environmentalist, so it was hard to hear some of his analysis, but as he says, "when physics meets platitudes, physics will win." You guys are the soberest, most non-ideological car channel on youtube, and I think Doomberg is the same when discussing these subjects. Kyle Bass's interview with Wil VanLoh (CEO of Quantum Energy Partners) from a couple days ago was even more detailed (and depressing). That interview is behind a paywall though on Real Vision. Mark - you can clip that mic sideways, upside down, even under the shirt (with a vampire or 'viper' clip and a foam surround called a marshmellow) without getting rub. But understand that sideways on your shirt collor is perfectly good even if its sideways or upside down - in fact often times this is preferable as it can mitigate nostril air hitting the mic. Unless you have a particularily rare and specialized mic, most lavaliers are omnidirectional condenser mics - in other words they do not need to be pointed directly at the sound source in order to pick up sound effictively. so put that baby sideways right in the center of your collar, and if you need a little somethin to keep the wire from pulling your collar down, a little bit of gaf tape about 6 inches from the mic, on the inside of your shirt - approx where the cable wie naturally wants to go, will solve that quandry. Love your channel! - a Sound person.

I actually finally got around to watching this and agreed with what they were saying about the Kona since I got one in 2022. Yes, there definitely is less-than-typical space in the back. I have the version with the CVT and that's annoying, but I can live with it. What really sold me about it was the back-to-basics interior and infotainment. Coming from an Outback Onyx XT that I sold back to the dealer, I was 100% done with a giant touch screen. The Kona has physical buttons for anything you need. For the occasional issues that the infotainment does have, there is a tiny reset button that you can push with a pen and that solves the issues virtually every single time. It was one of the few modern cars that I felt finally gave me control of my vehicle again and for that reason I've really enjoyed it as a simple daily driver.
@deejayimm2 жыл бұрын
When people ask questions and complain about things like the necessity of infotainment and all of the technology that goes into vehicles nowadays, they need to realize that they are an enthusiast. There's a reason why there are not many true drivers cars made, it's because the vast majority of people on the road are not really drivers, a large percentage of them in fact see it as nothing but a chore... The reason why you can't buy a simple drivers car nowadays is the exact same reason why no one is resisting the push for electrification. The vast majority of people on the road are going to absolutely love it when their car makes no noise, drives for them, and has all of the whiz-bang gadget's their heart desires. They're going to absolutely love not having to deal with gas pumps, or exhaust noise, or ICE smells. They are going to absolutely love it when all of the fun has been removed from your daily drive. If you're someone who truly loves to drive, you are a minority, and the world is closing in on you.

I owned a first gen G80 (rebadged 2nd Gen Genesis Sedan) and it was surprisingly satisfying to drive. The V6 sounded decent, the suspension was tuned by Lotus, and the the transmission wasn't amazing in manual mode, but the automatic logic was decent. The thing was perfect because it had just enough of the boat feel, but still felt connected to the road. The dampening and how the chassis felt when you hit bumps was satisfying. And yes, the car was so quiet. I've owned many luxury cars and the G80 was phenomenal when it comes to NVH.

Cx-5 vs Crosstreck, IMHO it is a wrong question. CX-5 vs Forester. These two are similar class. I have chosen Forester because of few specific things, and I’m happy after two years. *FEEDBACK:* These buying advice questions, being the main part of the livestreams, are maybe not that interesting to those like me who like these livestreams for the behind-the-scenes, personal anecdote content and such. I don't know whether it is realisitc/feasible to separate these content types, but watching a 4-hour livestream just to find the few really highly insightful bits is not easy. (Even as a podcast the attention easily wanders off.) I guess these questions also serve as prompts for the less car-model-related content.

I recently turned 25 and I am looking to buy my first ever new car this coming month ( I know, really bad time with the car market). The new integra really caught my eye. I realize the car received quite a bit of hate by car enthusiasts due to a misalignment of expectations and what was advertised, especially with what people remember the Integra being in its past iterations. But, as someone who has no real sentimental value to the original and intends on buying the car as a commuter, is there more value in the Integra vs. the other entry level luxury cars (A3, CLA, 2 series coupe, etc)? I don't really care for badges and branding, I just want to get the most for a car I will probably pay 35K-45K for.
@deltahorizon262 жыл бұрын
In purely the entry level luxury cruiser segment, yes the Acura Integra is the best overall value. You would have to pay north of 40 grand from the German luxury triplets to get similar value to the Integra. It also helps you get the best of what Honda offers as post purchase service (varies from dealer to dealer) and you won’t have to pay much higher for maintenance compared to the Civic. That being said, in this price segment, the Integra is a terrible bargain. It is competing with the Civic, GTI, WRX, Elantra N, Veloster N, Stinger, Accord, Camry, and the upcoming GR Corolla. All of which either fits in the 30-40K price bracket or offer similar features to the Integra. It’s a matter of what you are willing to prioritize and whenever or not the Integra fits those priorities.
@cartilagehead2 жыл бұрын
It depends on what your priorities are. I also am a fan of the new Integra for what it is, and if you want an entry-luxury “sporty enough” car with a manual that will get class-leading fuel economy and have bulletproof reliability/longevity + low running costs then it’s really hard to do much better. It will definitely have lower running costs than a GTI or any German car.

Personally I enjoy car reviews that are technical and ones that are geared more towards entertainment. Both have value and both give an impression of the car in different ways. I mean I watch a lot of different car channels and car content and if they were all the same, that would kind of defeat the purpose of variety.
@0Camus02 жыл бұрын
The "car enthusiasts" on Internet are just keyboard bench warriors loving 1000 hp Supras and Integra Type R. They want a 600 hp car with nice interiors, low weight, manual transmission and costing $25,000 USD, made in Japan, right side steering and AWD. Doing low 10 s in the 1/4 mile and revving to 10k rpm.

I agree that it's hard to feel excited about something you probably won't be able to buy for approximately one year after release...but I'm still exceptionally glad these cars are being released. I will say, regarding Ferrari/cars interior cracking up with age. A luxury interior with natural materials (real wood, veneered exotic wood, Connolly leather), they just don't hold up to the sun. Lambs wool carpets don't hold up to dirt. The specific example you're looking at has to be meticulously cared for to survive and retain that. Definitely not comparable to a 20yr old Toyota/Lexus interior material choice.
@savagegeese2 жыл бұрын
Its different if many of these so called exotics were exotic. You look at a 360, 458 they certainly don't have interiors that scream they were made and designed by some master craftsman. They are basically sports car interiors with some nice accent pieces. So in that regard they should be holding up. If this was some classic rolls royce or Bentley with wool and hand made alloys inlays etc sure I get it.
@Acct19412 жыл бұрын
@@savagegeese Thanks for the reply man. I think leather dashes create a lot of headaches down the road. JLR put leather dashes in some Range Rovers and Jags around 2010+ and they could shred themselves. I think the "premium" solution they arrived at was to make it soft but a synthetic lookalike. It's a delicate balance. Regarding Ferrari I certainly agree. Other than the carpets being likely a wool blend, and natural leather on door cards/dash, and those HOTT gated shifters, not a lot to differentiate the space.
