The economy is looking so bleak, Mark has even downsized from Patagonia to Kirkland.. true sign of the times. That said, he and Jack then rebounded in their standard P-Gear to show that the economy will in fact recover eventually. Genius play, there.

My brother came from last gen audi q7 to this palisade recently. It is a brilliant car altogether. It is not as dynamic and exciting as an audi but for a family who goes on road trips every other weekend this is the best car you can get for the price point. Seats are one of the best in class as well. Comfy for long trips.

I have been looking at purchasing a Caligraphy for a year now and no local dealers have them in stock. If they do list one it's $2k over the $52k sticker price. I'd be dumb to pay full sticker and extra dumb to pay $2k over that for "market adjustment". So my wife will continue to drive her 2013 three row Santa Fe Limited until then. Very satisfied with the car owned since new, now has 140k miles. Thanks for the honest review!

Mid range cars keep getting remarkably better, at least when it comes to interior design and usability. Comparing this interior with the latest from Mercedes, even though the Mercedes has (arguably) better materials, the all-touch and piano black looks and feels tacky, dated and crowded. It is weird to see this happening and progressing.

I feel the same way. The other thing is every lower end luxury car and SUV (c-e class, 3-5 series, q5-q7, etc.) is pretty much all plastic, vinyl, piano black and touch screens, if you pay for the add-ons. They don't feel expensive at all and even their wood or carbon Fibre looks as fake as any other, and they feel like hard plastic. They don't seem to care about expensive materials until you get well over 100k with the S class/7 series/A8 and even those start with lots of piano black and hard surfaces all over, and you need to option out the nice features and materials. Hyundai and Kia vehicles are pretty close now for way less money, if we're not talking high performance

All the unreliable gimmicks in luxury cars is definitely tiring! Things like this that execute a usable impressive interior is something that I wish more cars would do. Having a stupid red light strip flashing when you turn up the temperature in a Mercedes is worthless tech that will just break or look stupid in a few years as technology advances.

Picked up one of these up about 5 weeks ago in the same trim. The good definitely outweighs the bad. Sure it looks like you can grate a large block of cheese on the grill, but the interior is a big selling point. The dash layout, materials, and presence of physical buttons is fantastic. I like that you can steady your hand on the dash while using the touch screen....it makes all the difference in the world for usability. Could not justify the added cost of something at a comparable trim level for example, a Jeep Grand Cherokee L that has piano black trim on all of the touch points. The overall size is perfect as it fits in a regular sized garage, unlike full size SUV's. Road trips are really comfortable in the first two rows and the driving aids work much better that what I've experienced in our 2019 Pilot. Heated out board seats in all 3 rows, ventilated in the first two rows. Pretty good bang for the buck. Hoping the reliability is there...

@PatrixBest
@PatrixBest Жыл бұрын
The Sorento, Sportage and Tucson and others in that class are all considerably smaller than the Palisade. A 1.6T gas engine might not be enough for the Palisade, in which case the limiting factor is that Hyundai / Kia do not currently have a 2L or 2.5L P/HEV system. Additionally, putting a hybrid drivetrain means sacrificing the 5000lbs towing capacity, which I think is one of the selling points of the Palisade

@@savagegeese I can speak from my experience where about 10yrs ago when the i30 was released I test drove one based on 5/5 reviews. It turned out the cabin was uncomfrotably loud at highway speeds something which the reviews didn't mention. I had a feeling Hyundai pushed the narratives their cars are 'great cars', good value for money where as a matter of fact a used luxury drive was a better buy. In this case we bought a 3yrs old 118i and the car had better build quality, fuel economy, technology and drive than the Hyunday. They used to compete on price, maybe they are starting to compete on quality but I think that is what some people are reacting to.

@@moloono1 The engine replacements are mainly for their older cars till 2018. It's not really reasonable to make a blanket statement about a company for mistakes they made in the past. It's smarter to judge models rather than brands. I too can say Hondas suck since their 9 speed transmission is trash and their 1.5T is a shitty engine. Or Toyota sucks since their car wheels fall off and their cables corrode. But that's not reasonable since not all of their models have these issues. Every brand cuts costs. In the Palisade, they mainly use steel and the driving dynamics aren't amazing. I think those are the right costs to cut since their buyers don't care about driving dynamics or the powertrain. Hyundai also manufactures their own steel and most parts of the production is done in-house. That's how they also undercut their competition and add more features.

Hyundai and Kias HDA & HDA2 is top of the class but they're not going to do the job correctly/comfortably if you're speeding. If the speed limit I'd 65, and you're doing 90... you should expect the vehicle doesn't perform in that environment as well by itself. Driving with the EV6 going the speed limit to and from work everyday has been basically effortless even with some broken up/choppy line work (Pennsylvania trademark). But speed limit does matter. Coming up to a bend rated to be taken at 55mph is gonna look way different to the computer than if you were trying to do the same at 75mph.

I own a 22 Palisade and put 33,000 miles on it in a year. Haul 3 kids and am a sports car obsessed nut (owned a C63s AMG, Audi S6, M5). I love this car. We had a minivan and this is superior in almost every way. And compared to the big American SUVs like the Tahoe and the Explorer, this is m-u-c-h easier to park. And has as much 3rd row leg room. People don't think about having to park their giant SUVs but then they have tight parking lots for gymnastics practice with kids everywhere and it's a nightmare. Ultra reliable and I actually had a decent dealership experience (exception to the norm I know). Everything about this car just works. Lower plastics are cheap and the armrest is cheap. The one thing I hate about my 22 that they fixed in 23 is the rear climate controls are in the infotainment and it's sluggish. Nothing worse than having to wait 15 seconds after you press the rear button to get your soft climate controls on the screen. Overall tremendous vehicle.

Mark, this was an excellent video and I just also saw your GV80 video too. I just love the no crap and all facts approach -simply wow on your video and content making. I’m leaving a loved 2014 Navigator and bouncing between wanting a 3rd row or wanting an EV. I test drove a calligraphy and immediately felt the cushy ride - you called it soft. I looked at the GV80 and was impressed but fearful of a useless 3rd row. I’ve been researching the EX90 but saw your video on your 2019 XC90 and that gave me the same shakes as I’ve been having about the 2020 Discovery. Ok, I now got the “rock climbing capability “ out of my head. While I’m concerned about the similar miles/gallon that’s not too far from the Navigator - the Navigator is a Flex fuel boat which helped on fuel costs, my biggest issues - based on your thoughts on this video are 1) the audio system and 2) the handling which reminded me of my Acura Legend long ago. I’m an audiophile (with high-end bespoke analog systems and high-end solid-state at home). Assuming there’s no way to replace the audio system on the Palisade Calligraphy -sounds like I’d go mad listening to music in it; should I just go look at a different car? Thanks!!

As far as the dealer experience, good news. Kia/Hyundai have already told us they intent to ramp up production (for the Telluride anyway) to over 120,000 units so there shouldn't be any excuses from dealers for increased prices due to any shortages. I do agree the too frequent changes just as you get used to it. Too frequent changes lower resale value, and keeps these cars from ever gaining any true personalty. One more thing, I wish they offered more seat controls for the passenger so when drivers swap on long trips, even tall owners can still get comfortable and relax before they switch back. I'd gladly pay a couple hundred extra for that. While I'm making a wish list, thigh extension for the rear seats too. Something you can just pull out to gain an inch or so more. Being a 6'4 guy, I can't say how many times I wished the second row seat cushions had just an inch more thigh support to take the weight off my long aching knees. I realized that from being the passenger on daily commutes in mini vans.

Kia/Hyundai might intend to ramp up production but they've already sold out the entirety of the 2023 production. Not that I'm justifying marking them up, mind you, but some of them definitely will.

@@PatrixBest Well that's not what I heard. According to my source there should be more than enough production and inventory to match demand. In any event, if what you say is true, notify the manufacture. They have some influence over dealers charging exorbitant makeup fees. Also, don't forget to shop around, even if it mean leaving your area if the deal is better. I'm not planning on buying for another 6 months, so by that time I hope all this shortage nonsense will has been sorted out. Otherwise, I'll be shopping somewhere else. I most certainly will not never pay over the MSRP for any car, since even that much is a profit for the dealer. Beyond that, is just pure greed and I won't be the sucker that supports it.

We only received one to actually add to our stock, and we don't even have the option of placing any more orders. 2023 production is full and 2024 has not started. I wont be seeing this car on a race track anytime soon. However, the only reason why hesitated to buy this car is that it is a Korean brand car. I always heard of the reliability of Kia and Huyndai. Australian Palisade gets an Infinity sound system which is very clear and has very decent bass(coming from a guy who has a kick ass custom system in his weekend car that cost a lot) For me it was no hybrid crap, and non turbo with decent power (we only get FWD in Aus with the V6) and handles very well. Seems like Australia might get a little bit of a different suspension tune as mine corners very well with almost no body roll. No premiums fuels needed, get around 9l per 100 (26mpg) and 8l per 100(29mpg) on freeway driving. The AWD system might be a factor in your fuel consumption. Mine is the top spec in Aus, the highlander which has a front sun roof and the moon roof in the back, plus nappa leather and swede roof liner, manual adjusted headlights, 360 camera. Only thing that really annoys me is that you have to keep turning off the lane keeping assistant and speed warning crap which drives me nuts as it keeps beeping at you non stop for going a tiny bit over the limit. overall a 8/10 (would be 10/10 if it was RWD)

Because turbo means more air and more airs means more gas.

@@ghoulbuster1 Well in theory the turbo+smaller capacity engine saves gas. If it doesn't it's a bad engine. That is part of the reason you pay more for German brands, their engines and drive trains have good power and good fuel economy. When corners are cut you see it in the fuel economy always.

@@TheChannel1978 Turbo engines are only fuel efficient if you drive them right at the efficiency peak, that's around the point the turbo spools up to max and makes the most torque. But if you go over that, it quickly starts consuming more gas because of how turbos work. If you drive a turbo engine at very high RPMs it can use more gas than a bigger displacement engine.
