The Viper engine is not based on the truck V10; it's the other way around. Viper came out in 1992, first V10 truck was 1994. Both started as an extra cylinder on the LA-block V8 with a longer stroke, but beyond this concept, the two diverge. The Viper V10 really torched a lot of its V8 roots in the aluminum conversion, whereas the Magnum tried to use 5.9/5.2 parts wherever possible. In the end, basically nothing can be swapped between the two. But still, the Viper did it first.

These things (ACR, especially) were competing with cars 2-3x the price on the track. And it crushed most of them. Ok, but Corvettes and Vipers are not bargains, it's just German and Italian sport cars are overpriced by design for "exclusivity" which is very important for the douchebags who buy them and drive then 500 miles a year.
@matrinezkevin114923 жыл бұрын
@@truantray 100% true. Though Vipers and, to a lesser degree, Vettes are engineered by people with extensive racing experience. You can build some pretty damn wild home made autocross rides but FCA and GM are so far the only ones offering you that experience, with a warranty at a comparably affordable price. If track days are your reason to get a high performance car, skip the poser stuff like the Huracan or McLaren and grow a pair and drive an ACR. There's a reason every time a former race car driver drives a gen 5 ACR they gush about them unlike any other production car out there. They were designed by pro racers to tick all the boxes a pro racer would want in a street legal car.
@hickyricky59133 жыл бұрын
If you compare the gen 5, even the ACR, to what they've beaten on tracks, its incredible. Sure, the Viper ACR 5th gen is in the 6 figures, but its near the bottom of the barrel levels of cost. Vettes are a close second, but remember... the ACR is beating the shit out of what the Vettes can barely compete against... which is not to say anything against the Vettes, in fact, it just proves Vettes are insane value for performance and arguably better in terms of interiors and drivability. If anything, the ACR is what a Vette would be if Dodge's tunnel-vision was the mindset behind the engineering of a car for the purpose. Think about it, the Challenger is the last true Muscle Car standing, where it does not give a fuck about corners, while the Vipers of any generation, trim, what have you, are meant to be driven seriously around corners and does not give a damn about the driver's comfort, let alone safety (in fact, sitting in one is so unbearable as it forces you to sit in an awkward fashion).

Yes, it's loud and uncomfortable, because it's not supposed to be some pony to parade around the strip of Las Vegas. I had the pleasure of driving it once...I was terrified but appreciative of just how unapologetic it is. It doesn't baby you, hold your hand, or tell you everything is gonna be ok. From the moment you get it and start it up, it tells you 'Don't underestimate me, I will bite your head off if you get overconfident' I love how connected you are. I’ve always been amazed how quiet the Viper V10 is, especially compared to a Corvette V8. It’s like the “imbalanced” firing order of the V10 is inherently smoother than a small block V8. It doesn’t scream, hardly even shouts.

My favorite car since my childhood, it's so nineties and it's gorgeous. My dad even gave me a 1:18 scale model, that blue one with the white stripes on the top. Thanks a lot for the video Geese.

I guess I'm an odd duck because I love the simplicity of the interior on the viper

Finally watching this one...why complain about the interior for a car that came out in 2003? Gen V fixed everything.

so many awesome scenes--Jack's driving, the grilling on the engine (especially the Hebrew National apron!), and just the full review Love that you found a coupe to review, as well as your comparison to a Lotus Elise/Exige, my other top 10 car.

I drove one during a Skip Barber school at Road America more than 10 years ago. Very difficult car to drive fast. Rear end wanted to rotate worse than an mid 80's 911. I am in awe of any driver that can drive one fast on track.

Second to none this is the best car review/overview channel out there. There’s no better way to learn all the details about a specific car.

I just bought a 2001 Viper GTS and drove it 425 miles home from where I picked it up. So, I have some saddle time. I appreciate what these guys are saying about the Viper with respect to the interior and what have you. Offset pedals? Try driving a Pantera or 1960s Lamborghini. Objectionable interior? Same with many performance cars, like an F40. You just accept or forgive those omissions for what the car delivers. So, I do not share the overly harsh criticism, but understand where it comes from. Want cup holders, blah, blah, blah... buy a Corvette. Hey, nothing wrong with Corvettes!

Tbh I can appreciate and agree with the interior criticism, but apart from the heat and the gripe about the dead pedal - which is obv bad because I hate when my legs are tired - I care about none of it. Now, I'm not some macho freak and not even trying to be one, but when I'm driving my humble S40 Volvo on the road, I look at the road. I don't look at the leather:plastic ratio in my car. I don't randomly touch surfaces to see if they feel comfy or if they wobble. And I most certainly never wish for BLIS or EB or a rear camera. I just giggle when the spry little turbo-5 lets me have some fun and I wish it were bigger.

I just wanted to say that videos like these are just so cool and the review on the super high performance older cars that I can potentially actually own at some point is exactly the kind of stuff I want to watch. Loved the 09 CTSV review and you guys are spot on with what it is and also how absolutely atrocious the automatic transmission is but I still enjoy it thanks guys!

@Nathan P. Cuckerston lmao what? It has a fantastic gearbox for its time. Sure it's clunky, but most single clutch automated manuals are. Just look at the Aventador which still sells with it to this day. As for no one wanting to buy one; that's a blatant lie. The car was a masterpiece, and anyone who cares for cars loves it.
@munishpersaud36314 жыл бұрын
@@ArtVandelayOfficial yea this is cap. the single clutch is not good by ANY standards but its visceral and just as good the f430 single clutch which is when that part of the car was developed. as for no one wanting to buy it is simply false. there’s a reason the prices haven’t depreciated at all. its because people want them.
