Salvation is the free gift, not will. if you have free will then stop sinning... ill wait.
@SaneNoMore18 күн бұрын
@@SeamusDelion A bit of a snarky reply since I presented the teaching of over 90% of Christendom for the last 1900 years. Not one church father taught unilateral divine determinism until Augustine in the 5th century turned on his earlier teachings and in an attempt to fight Pelagianism ended up going to the other extreme, adopting the teaching of his previous pagan Manichaeism. Love without free will is not love. We can not love God unless we have the free will choice to do so or not, nor can sinners be held responsible if they are unable to respond .. that is what the word means. I am not sure why Calvinist seem to think accepting God's free offer is somehow meritorious. Faith by choice is not meritorious nor does it contradict God's sovereignty since He is the one who gave us free will.

As a “Calvinist” I actually didnt find assurance of salvation until I embraced that theology (although plenty of my non reformed friends are solid christians who have assurance as well. The whole point is my salvation is started sustained and perfect by Christ and there is no room for me apart from him to contribute. This was a funny video tho.
@TheRomans9Guy2 жыл бұрын
@@N81999 that's a tough one. The assurance that comes with a theology where God makes all things happen is a certain assurance to be sure. But the cost it comes with is that one has to then absorb (or rationalize away) the idea that God is the author of all evil. On the other hand, there can be assurance without necessitating determinism, ala Calvinism, and if there can be, then we wouldn't need to stick with Calvinism and it's issue with evil. The assurance we can have without Calvinism is this, that God is the author of all of it, as in Calvinism, with one caveat. God is the author of our forgiveness, he holds the gift eternal life for us securely, he is our assurance. The only part we play, the one part added to Calvinism, is that we need to provide surrender. That's it though. Nothing else. No works, no performance, just surrender. So on the surface, if we were to weight the two systems, on the one hand assurance is certain but there are questions about God and evil, or on the other hand assurance can inly be ruined by our lack of surrender, but God is not the author of evil, would you really choose option A?
@N819992 жыл бұрын
@@TheRomans9Guy so use surrendering is a verb. We are still doing something of our own merrit in an arminian or autonomous will theology so while ppl who hold to that may be genuine christians they believe in grace alone in their heart while speaking a 99.9% theology which is still works. And it doesnt make God the author of evil unless you think the Sun makes darkness. God is sovereign this sovereign over everything including evil without being guilty but its asymetrical. He actuvly works good and is sovergn over evil by not activly changing peoples will except on a few occasions where Scripture explicitly says he sent an evil spirit over someone (once again him sending an evil spirit is rare). So when God lets someone walk in their free will (their will unimpeded by him) they are slaves to sin (Scripture never demonstrates neutral humanity after the fall) so if God doesn’t actively work evil occurs just like if the sun doesn’t shine darkness comes. Does that make God the author of evil by no means and at this point this is the same question of how is there suffer even tho Gods is good that all christians must answer not just “calvinist”. And none of this is unjust nothing is owed anything by God and he may do with his creation as he pleases those he chose as vessels of his mercy and those he didnt as people to display first his great patience and then his just wrath which is also Holy and praise worthy. Great questions tho
@N819992 жыл бұрын
@@TheRomans9Guy also even if someone wants to claim surrender isnt a work to a degree which there is a string argument it is our natural disposition is to be hardened against God and his attempts to out things in out life to point us to him and to change our disposition (to make us born again in Faith)is a work and thus must be done by him because we are saved by Grace alone not us changing our heart to one of faith
@TheRomans9Guy2 жыл бұрын
@@N81999 all of this is wrong. Surrender is not meritorious. Surrender is the opposite of merit. It’s literally the abandonment of merit. Second, saying a determinist God isn’t responsible for evil in the way the sun doesn’t create darkness is silly. God created Jesus but also hitler. If God makes all the choices then God made hitler and all of hitler’s actions. Therefore God makes evil. If God allows man to make his own choices then God made hitler who had his own ability to surrender and repent but chose not to and hitler made his own evil. It’s really that simple. Calvinism is awful and paints a weak God.

And Jacob’s side was the complete opposite, Humans aren’t born with original sin, election (who God chooses/chose to save) is conditional, universal atonement, and people can lose their salvation even if they’re saved. Everything that happens in history has been decreed/Predestined before the world was created see Eph 1:11, Proverbs 16:33 and Amos 3:6. And yes even when terrible things happen, I know it's hard for some people to accept but look what happened when David sinned against God and one of Davids punishments was that God told him that he was going to use Davids own son to shame his Father by Absalom Absalom doing something immoral to his Fathers concubines in front of all of Israel, see 2 Samuel 12:11-12 God said "Thus says the Lord, ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you from your own household; I will even take your wives before your eyes and give them to your companion, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. Indeed you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and under the sun." Notice how God said "I WILL DO THIS THING."That was fulfilled in 2 Samuel 16:21-22. Jesus did not die for every single person ever and Jesus didn't die to make people savable. He died to save his elect. In John 17:9 Jesus said that he does not pray for the world. The word world is used in different contexts, in that context he's talking about the non elect. In John 3:16 world means that he purchased people from every tribe, tongue and nation Rev 5:9 and for the children of God scattered abroad John 11:52. Some have been "long beforehand marked out for condemnation" Jude 4 and "appointed to doom." 1 Peter 2:8. About Pharaoh God said “For this VERY PURPOSE I raised you up, to demonstrate My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout the whole earth.” So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires." Rom 9:17-18. Jesus said "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him." Matthew 11:25-27. So, 2 Pet 3:9 the "not willing that any should perish" if you read that letter in context, 2 Pet 1:1 says "To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours." As far as salvation for all men verses, Paul was refuting the false notion of his time that God was only desiring to save just the Jews and 1 Tim 2:2 says to pray "for kings and all who are in authority" because as humans WE DON'T KNOW WHO THE ELECT ARE SO WE PRAY FOR EVERYONE! That's what it means in verse 4 by saying "all men." Amos 3:2 God said "of all the nations of the earth I have only known you." For centuries God passed over the majority of humankind because this verse isn't about knowledge it's about relationship. And it isn't because God foresaw Israel was more righteous then the other nations because sometimes Israel was more sinful then the pagan nations see 2 Kings 21:9. Only those who were predestined to be saved will be see Acts 13:48, Ephesians 1:4-5, Eph 1:11, Romans 9:11-23, John 6:37. 1 Samuel 3:14 God said “Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.” That's Limited atonement.

Predestination is minor or non esensial doctrine from calvinism . Martyn Llyod Jones , said this: I am a Calvinist; I believe in election and predestination; but I would not dream of putting it under the heading of essential. I put it under the heading of non-essential… . You are not saved by your precise understanding of how this great salvation comes to you. What you must be clear about is that you are lost and damned, hopeless and helpless, and that nothing can save you but the grace of God in Jesus Christ and only Him crucified, bearing the punishment of your sins, dying, rising again, ascending, sending the Spirit, regeneration. Those are the essentials… While I myself hold very definite and strong views on the subject, I will not separate from a man who cannot accept and believe the doctrines of election and predestination, and is Arminian, as long as he tells me that we are all saved by grace, and as long as the Calvinist agrees, as he must, that God calls all men everywhere to repentance. As long as both are prepared to agree about these things I say we must not break fellowship. So I put election into the category of non-essentials.

Little Johnny, God has predestined the minority of people to be saved and go to heaven forever, and He has predestined the majority of people to be eternally damned and burn in the fires of hell. We have no idea, little Johnny, if God has predestined you to be forever damned or forever saved. We love you, little Johnny, but we accept the fact that God might not love you, and that He may have plans to send you to hell for your future sins. If you do find yourself one day burning in hell because He hasn’t elected to save you, just remember that we will always love you, even if God hates you. Take comfort knowing that we are not like God. We will be in heaven forever only because we were unconditionally chosen for salvation before we were born. That would be the only reason that we won’t be in hell with you if you find yourself there. It won’t be because of anything we did. So also take comfort in knowing that. It may not seem fair, but who are we to judge God? So again, if you find yourself in hell, remember that we will always love you as we forever worship the God who loved us but who hated you, the God who sent His Son to die for us but not for you. Please, we ask, don’t let it bother you-if you find yourself in hell-that we love the God who hated you and showed you no mercy. We must accept the fact that God is sovereign, and He does what He pleases. My dear beloved Calvinist, will you teach that to your children or grandchildren? I suspect that your answer will be “never.” But why not? Why would you ever hide the wonderful “doctrines of grace,” the “Bible truth,” from your own children or grandchildren? TRUTH IN LOVE

Here’s the thing with this I do agree the 5 points of Calvinism are Biblical yes I affirm there’s free will but you can’t come to Jesus on your own unless the Father draws you John 6:44 by the way God doesn’t have to show anyone Grace but he dose so because of who he is

Ahhh but like every sinner on earth alive today you still have breath, and therefore ther is a chance you could still be predistined to be a calvinist :-) If we meet in heaven one day you can tell me how it worked out 🙂

Can someone please enlighten me on what a 3 point calvanist mean or a 5 point calvanist
@The1Strategist2 жыл бұрын
A 5 point Calvinist is someone who affirms all 5 of the 5 points of TULIP. A 3 point Calvinist is someone who only affirms 3 of the 5 points. For example someone who says they believe Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, and Perseverance of the Saints but they don’t believe in the other two Limited Atonement and Irresistible Grace. You can swap any of those around but as long as you affirm any 3 of the points then you might can consider yourself a 3 point Calvinist. I hope I was able to help.

All of the points are heresy. Pt 1) No one is able to or wants to do anything good. Pt2) Jesus picks/elects people to go to heaven and by default picks the rest to go to hell. Pt3) He only dies/atones for the fictitious "elect". Pt4) If Jesus picks you to go to heaven, you have no freewill and by force will be compelled to believe. Pt5) the only way to know if you are "elect" is if you do good works until you die. If you cease doing works, you were never elect and all of the previous good works were not good at all. Some Calvinist believers cannot stomach all 5, so they pick and choose which ones to believe in.

@@marklindsey1995 it’s not heresy, but it’s wrong all around
@philipmurray9796 Жыл бұрын
@@marklindsey1995 each points are biblical, with solid scriptural support. Problem is they don't appeal to modern American "I did it my way" worldview. 1. There is none who does good. 2. Elect, chosen, called predestined... You'll find that language in every Bible. And it's God who does the electing. When? Before the foundation of the world 3. "I lay down my life for the sheep." Then Jesus says some are not his sheep and that is the reason for their unbelief. 4. My sheep hear my voice and they follow me 5. No one can pluck them out of my hand.

So true. I feel like most Christians have a few points of Calvinism but not all of them. Then Calvinists give you the ALL OR NOTHING speech.
@Steven-hq3go4 ай бұрын
Because believing in some and not others isn't logical or compatible. You can't disbelieve in irresistible grace and believe in perseverance of the saints possibly because how can you persevere if God hasn't irresistible called you by grace to hold you to persevere?
@theflightyfairy48114 ай бұрын
@@Steven-hq3go Perhaps you’re right about that example. But I believe there are plenty of traditions that hold to the doctrine of total depravity without some of the other Calvinist points (Lutherans and some Anglicans for example). Total Depravity says that we can do no good outside of God, and that the only things that are good are done with the power of God. It also implies that God gives faith. I don’t think believing in, say, Irrisistable Grace, is necessary to believe in Total Depravity.
