I am a climber and lived in Turkey for long time and encountered these dogs in the mountains many times. They'll come check you out, but are not aggressive unless you go close to the herd. However, I was running in an Istanbul park one time and there was a Kangal tied to a long line that ran across a clearing. I ran into the clearing and the dog was on me in seconds. It went straight for my throat, but I got my arm in the way. I still have a tooth mark on my bicep from that. I, of course, fell down which led the dog to clamp onto my leg. Luckily it didn't hit a main blood vessel, but it wouldn't let go. After screaming for help for about a minute the park 'security', one of them came and got the dog off, but not before my left thigh had 4 massive holes in. At the hospital, they injected immunoglobulin into the wound on one side which proceeded to come out the other side. I was very lucky but bear the scars to this day. If you don't need a dog like this for farm protection don't get one. They are bred to walk a long way in the mountains but if I saw one in a park I would go nowhere near. A Kangal that is not in its natural environment (high mountain pastures which don't even exist in the UK) is a ticking time bomb. We don't have wolves, jackals or bears here so there is NO need to endanger people to have a 'cool strong' dog.

I admire your work, keep it up, I learn something new from each of your clips about certain breeds of dogs. I am interested in whether you will make a clip about the Serbian Defense Dog, a very good and strong breed

Well... It's not about your daily lives, like I guessed, but I got a lot of information and really enjoyed the video. I am very grateful for it, because it is very, very tough to get Info like this, on this kind of dog breed. Usually, the info I get online about the dog, is just general info, it is not first hand information from an owner, neither is it this detailed. I really do not know how to express my gratitude, all I can say is thank you, and God bless you. I hope you continue this series, as I have a lot of interest in these dog breeds: Kangal Volkodav Akbash Central Asian Shepherd(Alabai) e.t.c I must say, I thought you would stop making dog related videos, since you sold your dogs. But I am glad you are still making these videos. Once again THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Wonderful dogs. Even just as an companion dog. Calm and confident. Only things im not fan of is that they are prone do bark a lot and they are difficult to have off leash outside of a fenced property.

Which breed is the better LGD for close guarding? What I mean by close guarding is a dog that stays close to the livestock no matter what. For example if they see a bear they’ll chase it away from the livestock and as soon as the threat is running away they go back to the flock NEVER leaving them alone and expose to other threats in the area because they were too busy chasing the bear miles and miles away leaving the livestock unguarded and exposed. They have been tricked into leaving the livestock unguarded and giving other predators a chance to take a meal.

I believe overall the kangala are the best when in a pack, they know how to keep the area they are in safe and know what to watch for
