I guess I'll NEVER understand why Savatage NEVER made an hUGE BREAKTHROUGH in the rock/metal world as metallica did? in late 80s and early 90s? Savatage albums so underrated and also unknown to the large rock/metal audience. left alone other people. I like Savatage ABOVE metallica and other big names in metal.... also King diamond/mercyful fate was never bigger then metallica

Great enough they should make a life story about Criss,Jon and Savatage. Life and death of Criss is just as worthy as Jim Morrison, Jimi and Janice. It would definitely give Savatage the recognition they deserved when Criss was with us.

as men we were raised to not show weakness or emotion. frankly it was a stupid rule which made a bunch of people incapable of dealing with reality. tell you a secret I never told anyone. I started on savatage in 1986 or so. fell in love. criss was an awe inspiring musician, him and jon taught me so much before they even knew it. he was one of the reasons I picked up a guitar. I remember hearing about his death in 1993. we had a swing out front. there was a football game going on across the street i set and cried for a good while when I learned he was gone. at that time I had a single cd player, and a single cd, it was edge of thorns. That cd played on repeat for a year and more. Ive worn out 3 different cassette tapes of streets when marching in full gear, I used to sing gutter ballet, because it's a perfect infantry tune for long walks we're lucky in our age, people who make beautiful metal are not a dime a dozen, but there are still enough of them to touch us in the places we can never go or see, and still bring our hairs on our body to attention 3 decades later. thank you criss and jon

Savatage was and IS still one of My Number 1 Favorite Bands... The Influence You have had 9n My Life is Absolutely Priceless. You have Always been one of the Truest Metal Bands and Jon is one of the Most Honest Singers I've Ever Experienced... Pouring His Heart and Soul Out with Every Note and Nuance ... and Somehow retaining Chris's Soul within the Creation of All Of His Music... A Friend and I had flown to Florida from Alaska to Meet You.... He knew I was a Huge Fan... and studied Every Note , Vocal Inflection, and Feeling within... The Day We were to join You, He received a call that Chris had passed.... That Day still Haunts Me... Though.... I am so Glad that Chris's Passing did not end His Legacy Nor did it End Savatage.... Instead It has added a Strength, Drive , Direction, Inspiration , and so much more... Chris's Passing ... Helped Create a New Musical Pallet that has Evolved into making the World a Better Place for Him Having Been.... I've far to much to say to keep it all in time... Thank You \m/

The last masterpiece guitar work from master criss oliva, the album edge of thorns also contains the amazing vocals of zak stevens, on the song follow me criss gave us his more melodic and gentle side of him, and on the track exit music we hear the beautiful piano played by jon oliva, savatage and criss oliva are gone but what a legacy they left for us

I've been a Savatage fan since the summer of 1988.. since I first seen them on Headbangers ball..with Hall of the Mountain King .then 24 hrs Ago.I knew they was something special.Thier image..thier approach Savatage broke in being original and themselves. They certainly added spice to the metal world.I listened to them more than any of the metal bands in the late 80's and early 90's.I had everyone of thier albums by early millennium.Criss Oliva's passing was the beginning of the end for Savatage..you can hear the magic fading every lp they made after his tragic death.RIP Criss we miss your music and talent to the music world

You are here. I am here. 1.6 thousand fans have been here so far. So what is best? Mass adulation or a devoted more cult-like following. Personally, I like having bands like Savatage, Trouble, Metal Church, Omen, Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol, Night Demon, Orange Goblin, Y&T, Riot, Dangerous Toys, Wildstreet and many old and newer bands somewhat to myself and several thousands of my Metal friends. When they hit it mega-huge in the mainstream, if they ever do, I'm looking for the next special thing. Look at Metallica. I loved them as they began. The bigger they got, the more my enthusiasm faded. I love going to a smaller venue where you can get up to the barricade to see Saxon or John 5 and not spend $100+ on a great seat at an arena only to have someone stand in front of you for the entire show. I have a lot of respect for working bands that play because they love it who would welcome fame but still find satisfaction playing when only 20 people show up.Thank you for letting me rant.

Criss's guitar solo is the best part of this song. That distortion part he plays later (5:13), he use to play that in his solo's during a show. That part is magic too. Really the whole song is so well written. Plus gotta love Jon's piano playing.

Saw Savatage at a small bar in Ft Myers on a Thursday for the Wake of Megellan, there were on 20 of us there. I didn't realize until the end of the show when I turned around and there was no one else there. Their show was absolute ferocious and full length and totally absorbing. And the next night in Tampa with a packed house of about 2000.......every bit as ferocious and absorbing. Saw them open Dead Winter Dead tour in a small bar in Port Charlotte same thing. One of the greatest bands ever and they proved it when they started marketing themselves as TRANS SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA.

A man only sees what he wants to see When he's in his mind Where he is what he wants to be Living in a world where he's safe from reality Won't you take a chance on this night child And follow me Won't you follow me (repeat) Once was a broken hero The kind that we all know The kind that hides inside us For we never show The kind we say that could never be me His whole life was written Written there inside The new weekly bible His modern T.V. Criss' rhythm chops have such a George Lynch influence in them. In fact, there's even some tonal similarities. That's not to say that Criss mimicked George, I'm just saying the technique and phrasing similarities are really fun to listen to. Still miss Criss every day.... he gave us all so much joy thru his playing and writing.
