I love the precision of Savate's kicks. You have to be in tremendous shape to be proficient. And you have to be pretty damn tough. And I like the fact that Savate has stop-hit attacks with the feet that are effective. On the street, I think someone proficient in Savate would handle themselves really well. In a mixed martial arts bout, though, it suffers from a lack of one hit power. You can't take all day to pick apart your opponent when they can take the first shot and get you down.
@HrHaakon11 жыл бұрын
If you want to go down that road, should we allow Savates' eye-gouching, throat crushing and ball smashing techniques as well? There's a LOT of Savate techniques that has gotten banned over the years.

It's not the preferred but Muay Thai is much more famous then other arts like Savate or traditional Kick boxing. every art has its strengths and weaknesses, but the difference is made by the fighter. Im a Savateur but i also know how to throw knee and elbow strike, you don't need to study Thai to know how to do it :D Sorry for my bad english!

@Coleman234465 Muay thai uses kicks, punches,knees and elbows, kickboxing punches and kicks, savate uses punches and kicks, but savate is designed to use your shoe as a weapon (savate street fighting) so you kick with the tip of your toes.

In a street fight, Savate > Lethwei > Muay Thai. Fusing Savate, Lethwei, and boxing into a martial art where low blows are allowed, and practitioners practice "iron crotch" to desensitize the weakest part would be a savage martial art.

Such moves exist in savate too, but you've got to level the ground somehow if you want fights with individuals from many disciplines.
@supergnc12 жыл бұрын
Muay Thai's incorporates alot more knees, elbows and shins. Their kicks are also more of a swing for power, and are used alot to try and take out the legs. Savate is more like standard boxing, but using the feet as well. Their kicks are more snappy, and precise, as opposed to brute force. A Thai fighter can overwhelm a practitioner of Savate that's not very disciplined in movement, and a great Savateur can pick apart a Thai fighter who is wreckless.

Your understanding of one art does not supplant understand of another. Until you practice both arts you are unable to give an informed opinion on both. You may be able to give your full experience with Muay Thai but unless you have practiced Savate you have no knowledge that is no vicarious. Cross train all, embrace all arts equally. No art is best it's what works best for you, but you don't know what works best unless you keep trying everything you possibly can.

It did not come from aristrocrats it came from thugs and sailors. Canne de combat came from aristocrats because it was outlawed to carry a sabre and the edited the techniques to suit a stick or a staff, that may be where your confusion is rooted.

Savate is street combat, the actual term is Boxe Francaise for sport fighting. Savate incorporates throws, knees, elbows, headbutts, punches, kicks, etc. Much more like Krav Maga, Jun Fan Gung Fu, or even Muay Boran the arguable more brutal style. Muay Thai is just as well a ring art, not like Muay Boran the more ancient more violent style. But when Muay Thai and Savate are fused it is nearly impossible to beat the practitioner. Elusivenss of savate power of thai.
@nickreuter8458 жыл бұрын
I don't like how the savate fighter kept circling into other guys power. I feel like this fight would have been one sided if clinch fighting was allowed.
@Nostromo-Br8 жыл бұрын
this is a stupid comment, you want that he just stay there taking punches like muay fighters usually do? traditional savate too have clinches, projections ,grappling and use knees, elbows, fingers and even the head to attack but this no sportive i think. you know nothing about kickboxing .

The Savate fighter in this video uses lots of lateral movement. Are you saying he circles into the roundhouse kicks because Savate doesn't train lateral movement, or that he circles into roundhouse kicks because it is preferable to exchanging strikes at boxing range? This fighter seems to have most of his success at boxing range and most of the punishment he takes happens when he walks towards the roundhouse kick or in the brief moment of clinching before the ref seperates them.
@GameSteph11 жыл бұрын
Then you might as well allow clinch knees,elbows, and sweeps as well since those are all in muay thai then im pretty sure he would damn near kill that guy.

No such thing as best, it amounts to who practices it. And you're incorrect, most of those arts have just as many tools as Thai does, especially Sanda, Kyoksuhin, and Savate. Quit looking at one art and saying its the best instead study them all and understand them. Short sightedness like that ruins the martial arts community.

Canne de combat just came straight from regular fencing, which wasn't forcibly an aristocratic thing during the 19th century in France (dueling was extremely spread to all layers of society, although it did have a special thing for the aristocracy and officers. Stick-fighting was common for the sword-lacking population).
@Dr-Grayson12 жыл бұрын
Wrong, it's the known striking method. It's just taught more often. Check out Erik Paulson who teaches STX which is a Savate Thai crossbred art. Then maybe your understanding will grow. They each have their strength Muay Thai leaves you open for far more punishment which Savates footwork allows for better evasion and faster more elusive striking and the power difference when learned properly is minimal. And yes Thai has the clinch which is brilliantly effective. It's why I train both. Learn all
@aiyer198913 жыл бұрын
@julio26789 And the savate fighter has to completely adjust his kicks due to the abscence of shoes, both arts were at a disadvantage under this rule set.

It's kinda funny how you can look at a fight from the outside and think he should have done this when he did that. Fighters get all exited and sometimes lose there minds you need to fight intelligently to win it's not always about fancy moves just plain good reflexes and a calm mind in control can do.
