I’m just starting out at 79yrs old. I’ve been buying tools for the last few years but finally making things. Nothing fancy, just smalls. Saving money on basic supplies will greatly help. I really enjoy and appreciate your channel. Many thanks!

At last, a common sense approach to 'must have' items for the workshop. Yes, we would all love a Domino, a CNC, and a beautiful, accurate cabinet saw...Alas, for most woodworkers that is just not going to happen. Even jobbing carpenters realise that consumables are not free. So, savings like those illustrated on simple items like screws, brads, and hinges do add up. I always purchase screws when they are on specials, but haven't really considered Amazon as a source. I'm over the pond, in Scotland, but I'll definitely be taking a look. As for the hinges, I've already seen the light. Thanks for sharing.

You’re very welcome and I absolutely appreciate comments like this. I could not agree more that so many videos talking about must have tools are thousands of dollars each and very few people have the budget for those types of items. Thanks for watching from Scotland 🤟🏼🤟🏼

Probably should have commented on the Base Camp video, but I just ordered an m mask through your link. 😅

i will agree with you that buying these items for the budget friendly/beginning woodworker at Amazon is a great choice. I would like suggest Harbor Freight. The tools and things that I need for woodworking as a beginner seem to do the job quite well. Keep up the good job on the videos.

Harbor freight clamps are a steal and most have a lifetime warranty.

@laneetherington614 for entry-level and beginner woodworkers, these are probably sufficient. But be careful … They do tend to bend, less clamping pressure than competitors, etc.… Here’s a link to a really in-depth review. @@NuKraftWorkshop I should have been more specific, I got the Bremen parallel clamps and they seem to be as good as any of the high price parallel clamps. with a life time warranty.

Never used that brand … lifetime warranty is a bonus for sure
@DevilDogs664 ай бұрын
I’d consider the Harbor Freight spring clamps. The jaw sizes are about the same, you get 2 larger clamps too. You’ll get 2 fewer clamps (14 vs 16), but you can buy 2 packs for just $18, and have 28 clamps instead of 16, for just $2 more. And they have a lifetime warranty.

That’s good info… I really can’t tell you the last time I was in a harbor freight. I have one not too far from me but I prefer the convenience of things being delivered. Next time I’m over that direction, I will swing in and check them out. 🤟🏼

I buy a fair amount of hardware. Not just screws and brads but nylock nuts, hinges, casters, threaded inserts, knobs, washers, and just about everything else. Buying online in general and Amazon in particular is not only cheaper and more convenient and efficient for me. Instead of driving over to a big box or even a mom and pop in the middle of the day when I could be doing work only to find out they don’t have what I want I just go on line and do it at night. Some of my other favorites which might not be cheap but carry hard to find specialty stuff are Zoro, Grainger and McMaster Carr.

hardware is an easy way to cut expenses in your shop…. And I agree on the driving. I live in Houston so you can imagine what a 15 mile trip is like cutting through the city. Way too much time out of my day to pick up small items like this that could be delivered to my door

About clamps, as a lifelong carpenter I had my family and friends always give me clamps for Christmas or bithdays. Being a framer you know the kind of clamps I owned. Then I started, as a hobby, building ukuleles, OH BOY! I used from clothes pins to rubber bands, to bicycle inner tubes. Anything I could lay my hands on, my wife lamented missing kitchen items! I had to fess up to wandering the house at night looking for things that could do the job for the next step😂! I found there are not enough clamps in the whole Universe!
@NuKraftWorkshop5 ай бұрын
😂 This is so true!! I bet you had a hodgepodge of clamps as a carpenter!

You are right about the screws; they are pricey at the box stores. Also I have used the box store version to fasten my cedar deck and they don’t hold up.; they tend to strip out, probably made worse by the extra threads. Thanks for your insightful review.

I appreciate it and thank you for commenting. It surprises me that more people aren’t willing to save money where they can on items such as this.

Great advice. Since I was recently introduced to pocket holes, I use a lot of screws and you are right they are expensive at big box store. I thought walmart was cheaper, but Amazon is much cheaper. And I want to upgrade the hinges to our cabin in our home, but they are pricey until now. Also, the one we currently have dont close softly. You have to watch out, or you will smash your finger. Also, some forget drive time to go to these stores and gas. I started getting brad nails at Harbor Freight, and it seems Amazon is about the same savings, except I spent 45 minutes in drive time total versus it being delivered to your home. I will look into that incra Ruler. Ty for the advice. Also, the shirt is so true.. never enough clamps
@NuKraftWorkshop5 ай бұрын
Thanks again Brandon. Hopefully some of these will help out with your situations and I couldn’t agree with you more that drive time (especially where I live… The city of Houston) is a dealbreaker most of the time for me. I do enjoy the atmosphere at my local rockler or woodcraft store but, I don’t mind having things dropped off at my front door neither

I use construction screws. Buying 1boxes is nuts. A 5lb box is about the same price as 2 - 1lb boxes. A 25lb box is about the price of two 5lb boxes. The partially threaded screws are better. The screw passes through the first board without threading, then anchors into the second, pulling the first board tight. A full thread screw won't close the joint without stripping the fibers in, hopefully only, the first board.
@NuKraftWorkshop5 ай бұрын
I agree completely. So many people continue to buy small boxes at the big box store… Just wasting money

Brad nails and staples are very inexpensive at Harbor Freight. Good quality also.

I don’t do a lot of shopping at Harbor freight but I hear that quite often… The main reason I prefer Amazon over them (if I am buying offbrand products) is convenience. I live in the city of Houston and even getting somewhere that’s 3 miles away is a 45 minute to 1 hour round-trip

Don't need threads to go all the way to the head? You don't WANT the threads to go all the way to the top! You don't want the threads to bite into the top board or they can jack it up.
