My new Worcester Bosch boiler has a `quick tap` function where you open the tap briefly, and close it again, this causes the boiler to fire up and heat some water without running it. Then after 10 or so seconds, run the tap for hot water. It kind of works but isn't perfect, but every little helps. Looks like all recent Worcester Bosch boilers have this function, including the entry level models.

Thanks for the tip Rob.

Ah, great idea! So this is opposite to a trv, flow increases as temperature increases. Thanks for shareing, i'll definatley be fitting one of these. Not so much a problem in winter when the plate heat exchanger is already hot but in summer there is a whole sink bowl full of cold before the heat arrives.

No problem worth having one.

You don't really need this restrictor - you have one on the end of the pipe - a tap. Open the tap a small amount until the boiler fires fully and is able to match the flow you require - then open the tap as normal. Same applies to the shower. You will waste less water this way and use gas more efficiently.

Thanks. That is why I added the other video. People with kids will need to have it done for them, they will never do the free version ha ha.

Is this the same as the 'wax capsule stat' that was fitted on old Potterton Puma combis years ago? I have no idea if they work the same way, but I remember they were fine until they stuck. Then customers would call me out with symptoms similar to scaling up - that's what even some heating engineers thought. Sometimes (rarely) you could tap the capsule with a spanner to free it. Like I said - like everything else...fine until it goes wrong. Then, rather than it saving the customer money, it costs, instead.

Nothing like those I have had mine in for 10 years no problem with it.

@@dereton33 That's fine. It's just that I am very much in the 'KISS' school of heating and plumbing. I'm 65 (I'm guessing you're close!) and I've learned that if you waver away from simple, and add complexity, you've added a layer of unreliability. Even though I'm an ex-British Gas engineer, I went all electric in 2007 despite being on a housing estate. My mentor thought I was mad, but it's been great - 18 years of total reliability - not broken down once. I pay about £1,000 a year more for it than gas, but I know it will just keep working. My HW is from an immersion heater - still the same one, 18 years. All the best.

Hi, could of of the be fitted to a fully pumped system?
@dereton339 күн бұрын
No only combi boiler systems.

Hey dereton do you still have that ceiling fan ?

Yes Dan.

Sorry Al, tried one of these in a hardware area and it reduced the water flow after 2 years so badly, we had to remove it. It can’t be maintained, so decided not to replace

Ok thanks Al.

Same boiler I think as what I have is this a greenstar 36cdi out of curiosity what do you run your flow temp at. As I live in a old stoned house and a flow temp at 75 doesn't seem warm enough
@psychoadam308910 күн бұрын
If your flow temp is at 75 and your house is still cold considering calling out a pro to find out why. I live in a 1930 built house and 65 is plenty for me even with 12 foot ceilings and timber suspended floor with air bricks. If 75 isn't getting warm you have a issue I would imagine Personally I would think limescale and corrosion/radiator rot is probably the cause if system is old (10+years) Do you have a magnetic filter under the boiler? That and some inhibitor would probably help although its difficult to tell without seeing the system Good luck!
@nathan650810 күн бұрын
System not old house is big radiators are hot just seems it takes a long time to heat the house boiler and System has been checked and serviced and all rads balanced and no air locks your lucky to be able to run 60 flow temp
@nathan650810 күн бұрын
Yes have a magnet and inhibiter been checked and topped up. Flow temp at 65 the house takes hours to heat up I'm thinking maybe rads are undersized for size of house
@dereton3310 күн бұрын
Yes 60 to a max of 70 is the preferred temperature.
@peterbell94369 күн бұрын
@@nathan6508you need bigger radiators so you get at least the same heat output with a lower flow temp,ideally 55 c so it sounds like your substantially undersized. Doing this may mean a complete re pipe in order to get decent flow rates.
