Great tips, thanks. I'm not in England, but still found some of the tips useful. I liked the idea of buying stuff when it's on sale and freezing it. I have been trying to have less food waste lately, and it does help your budget!

I like the cook once, eat twice tip. Am in the US, but spent time in the EU. Lidl was my favorite supermarket. Great quality and very low prices. 😊

We have gotten picky. It used to be people at the same things for breakfast or maybe 3 different things for breakfast each week. People didn’t buy two ingredients they needed a spoon for for a new recipe. It was pasta on Monday taco Tuesday fish on Friday etc.. you know how much to buy. People knew how much they could put on their plate so all had enough and not to increase the waistline and not to feel hungry later. Cause it was every week the same things. Maybe change with season when you could grill. My idea is monotony. Maybe one day a week the meal is a new recipe or something you have not made in a while? Another idea is to go meatless for all of lent like the old days. I noticed a cooked whole chicken costs less than a raw while chicken or even 3 breasts wrapped up in plastic. Next time we have chicken it’s going to be the precooked one.

I buy the cooked chickens at Lidl £4.99 and I can get at least 4 meals and stock from the skin and bones. I put skin and bones in the slow cooker then I strain it and pick out any meat that has dropped of the bones, I use the stock to make my soup and add the small bits of meat for soup, sandwiches or add to stir fry. It’s amazing how much meat comes off the bones.,also how much flavour the stock adds to my soups or gravy.

I've saved £78 using OLIO. It's really good when you van get a few bits, otherwise cost of petrol outweighs benefit of one item.

Some great tips, thank you! Most recently I froze the last bit of wine from an open bottle to use in a casserole or risotto. I recently bought an instant pot and have been using it for batch cooking; really easy I don’t even fry the onions everything goes in raw and cooks beautifully. So far I’ve made chicken curry, chilli and veg/lentil soup

Great idea Sally. I’ll look into instant pots, they could be a good fit for us. Well done with saving the wine - no chance of that with me!! 🤣🤣

I don’t know if for someone who is vegetarian this stuff sounds to good … some of your tips don’t sound really bad but being a person who does yoga some stuff sounds like dead food … not a nutritious meal
