Instead of purchasing a new grill, take on the challenge of renewing your old one yourself. With a little TLC, you're going to love the outcome and save money as well. Come on back, because anytime is the right time for some Southern outdoor cooking.

I know this is late, probably nobody will see it, but just as an FYI, the rustoleum high heat paint says on the label, do NOT use in areas exposed to flame, like the inside of a grill or fireplace. These paints are mainly for engines and the outsides of grills. LOVE to Sonya and thanks for ALL the vids!!

Another tip is that rust burns off of you heat up your grill before cooking food so that’s why always better to heat up grill so rust could burn off

That rust on the inside of the grill could have been seasoned off by heating the grill and painting on heavy coats of oil in between burns.

Recently bought a $450 grill for $60 because it was used and rusting. Currently restoring it.... My current tools/supplies: Oven cleaner, Wire brush attachment for drill, rust killer (spray gel for vertical surfaces), rust evaporator (bath for small items and grill grates that can just soak for a few hours to remove rust), those three small brushes (same as ones in the video) for small areas/corners, and then the high temp paint (just like the one you have in your video). Up to this point I've probably put about 10 hours into it... it's a lot of work but at the end of it I should have a very nice grill that will last me a long time. :)

Before you paint be sure to use a rust neutralizer this will stop the rust. Even though you painted over the rust it will continue. Use the rust neutralizer. Pick it up at the hardware store. Then paint. Great video.

Love your spirit Sonya......If you are like me, that grill becomes part of your family if you have been cooking on it for a number of years...You get use to how it heats and what you can and cannot do on it ...I clean up and paint up my Charbroil routinely....I also keep it covered with the Charbroil cover... I have to get a new cover every 18 months or so due to sun exposure, but it is totally worht it.....it makes the "rebuild " more like a "spruce up"...I spend about 5 or 7 bucks in materials and about 1 and half hours a year and it still looks good ...... When you fix up stuff in stead of putting it in the dump ....you do not even have to worry about recycling.....restoral or re purposing stuff like this is the purest form of recycling.....and trust me, I am not a tree hugger.......

I woulda used a drill with a wire brush attachment to get that rust off and eliminate all of the rust before painting. If your paint starts bubbling in places, it's because the metal is continuing to rust.

I never paint a grill, I use cooking oil and heat to season it like a cast iron skillet, especially the inside. Paint will not last and will flake off onto your food soon. You should oil your unit evetime you use it, when you start the fire spray some oil on it and let it cook onto the metal like a cast iron skillet. No need to ever paint. I use a blow torch and do it on the shelves and handles. You can paint the legs and the shelves if you prefer but the main barrel I only use oil.

I like ur tip! Cuz thats the way i season all of my cast iron and dutch ovens too! And i seen the vids of cowboy Kent Rollins so i think that's how they do it. But the painting is better to do it on the outside.

@Boss Lady no is not, the outside is great also with no paint. The hottest area over the fire box is the hardest part as it burns it off so you have to apply every time you use it
