Save Roggvir - What Happens if you Don't Visit Solitude in Skyrim

Roggvir was a member of the city guard at the time of High King Torygg's death at the hands of Ulfric Stormcloak. Immediately after the incident, Roggvir, who was presumably on gate guard duty opened the city gates and allowed Ulfric to escape. For this, he was branded a traitor and sentenced to death. He was a proud Nord and Stormcloak sympathizer, defending Ulfric's actions as honorable even in the face of death.

The extra dialog happens even if you do visit Solitude first. Its their response to the execution just have to spam talk them to find it.

Meanwhile, if you enter Darklight Tower, in the Rift, from above, killing the generic Hag and Hagraven duo outside and unlocking several Master locked doors, that quest is bollixed irredeemably. Seems the developers didn't put quite as much care into that one. =9[.]9=

I used a resurrection spell on him, the guards attack him, but when you kill everyone, he has normal npc dialogue like "Hm?" and "What is it?"

The first time i visit solitude it was so dark i cant even see where the execution took place. Well that and i was in a rush to cure the early stage of vampirism (turned out i got blue balled because they dont have talos statues,managed to cured it still thanks to carriage to different city tho)

He was a guard for solitude. Opening that gate is not guarding solitude's best interest. That's like hiring someone to guard you and they kill you instead.

Maybe I’m wrong but I thought the reason his execution was controversial was because when Roggvir opened the gate for Ulfrik he hadn’t yet received word from the palace that Ulfric had killed the high king and so he didn’t so much as knowingly commit treason as he did just make a very costly mistake.

Guards keep enemies out not the normal citizenry in.

Let's not forget Ulrich is a Jarl as well, and not a commoner. So even though not of this hold, he has higher rank and would not be able to be stopped by most gaurds. Also as a fellow nord, Roggvir was simply allowing nord traditions to be carried out. Those complaining are most likely followers of the empire.
