As a police officer who has worked in schools for 8 years now, I can confirm everything you are saying. I have also seen a dramatic increase in disrespectful and explosive violent behavior amongst students of all ages. Most the time the response to this kind of behavior is medication... Fortunately my wife is an amazing educator and is able to homeschool our kids very effectively and has aspirations of starting a part time christian one room school house concept for our community. I love that you guys are sharing what you have seen and are doing to your large audience. Homeschool for the win!

I am 19 and I was public schooled until sophomore year of high school. When I got set up in a coop I was blown away by what the homeschool kids knew. When I have kids, Lord willing, I will home school them

@@WarriorPoetSociety I graduated earlier this year, and my parents, grandparents, aunt and uncle, and church family worked together to homeschool me, my cousin, and my 3 siblings. (Actually, my siblings got me a WPSN subscription for a graduation gift, they’re awesome) I am forever grateful to my parents for deciding to homeschool us for so many reasons. I’ve been protected, kept in church, brought up to be a patriot listening to Rush Limbaugh, and have been raised close to all my family. As someone who was homeschooled, I highly recommend it! Keep doing what your doing John, great content. 👍

I wouldn’t homeschool them. Don’t have kids until you can afford a private school or move to a school district that supports your values. I was homeschooled until 9th grade when I was sent to a private school. I was academically leaps and bounds above my peers but socially I was far behind. Even as an adult, I have social problems, agoraphobia, am obese, and have a slew of health problems from spending my childhood at a kitchen table scribing like a Medieval monk. Kids need socialization, travel, various types of social encounters, friends their age, physical education, sports, and exercise. Unless you can provide that for your child, and few homeschooling parents have those resources available to them, then send your kids to a private school or move to a school district that supports your values.

That's a you problem. I was homeschooled and turned out just fine. My socialization was at church. Public school now is just LGBTQ propaganda and indoctrination.

@@thomascraig6814 Or you could find some sort of tutorial or at least a community of people (which are widely available in the US besides states like Montana and Alaska. You just have to look) and have your kid(s) interact with people from an early age. There are many good private schools with good values in my area with great values, but from my experience a good amount of kids there don’t give a crap about what their parents think because most of their influence is from each other not adults so they’ll just go to college and end up like most people in the US stupid people with stupid degrees. Basically public schooling and even private schools are usually a recipe for disaster no matter how many “good values” they have.

Yes! The teachers were pressuring me to medicate my son. I started taking him to the park before school to let him run around before class. To me ripping a kid out of bed and expecting them to sit all day and work with a pencil makes no sense to me🤦‍♀️

My mother told me they tried to medicate me back in the mid 80s, Because " I couldn't set still". So it's been going on for a while.

Years ago, my cousin & 2 classmates were let out of class for 2 minutes between each class to run around the school. This release of energy allowed them to focus on their next class. No medication, just some "common sense" application, they were young boys with a lot of energy that needed at outlet. I knew kids that would sneak the cigarette between classes because it actually (chemically) calmed them down. Good? No-it was a coping mechanism. But if a "professional" can medicate someone into compliance with the expected norm....hey (PS: studies have shown that boy's biorhythms are different than girl's, they do better (at classes) LATER in the day, whereas girls do better earlier.) Schools that start later, have their boys performing better. It has to do with their sleep patterns. Your solution works, (I will add that) after school, 1st, some quick food, then have him work out or be active for at least 30 minutes. Anything he likes to do. Anything but sitting. Even working on (or making) something. I had chores. Homework always came later after dinner, but since I stayed up later...it worked. Good luck, and blessings to you.

I was homeschooled from the get go. Hooked on phonics and my mom's lap was my "pre-k". I was reading 6th grade level books by the time I was 6 years old. It allowed me to advance far beyond what level I was supposed to be according to the school system. I was able to complete my last 3 years of high school in a single year. In the mean time I was helping to teach kindergarten. When I took the asvab I got a 125 gt score, where the others my age with the "same level" of education were struggling. Heck, I scored better than a lot of college guys. Thing is, I learn visually but also through touch. I wouldn't have gotten that in public school. I wouldn't be able to come back at night time to that one subject I had a hard time understanding. So much I wouldn't have done or been able to do. I would've been left behind. My friends and family in public education always said I wouldn't be on their level. I ended up above.

Even if your metrics weren’t better than your public school peers, home schooling is still the best option. Through testing and grading, public schooling kills the joy of learning.

1st kid in my grade school to be diagnosed add and doped on ritalin, 4th grade. Felt "slow" all the time. Complained constantly and eventually my parents listened and took me off it. And I decided it was not my fault the rest of the world could not think at my speed and adapted to function at their speed. And have managed to survive. Screw the ones that want docile kids, let them be kids.

LOVED THIS! My son has been home schooled since 5 - is now 12. He would have been one of those boys who couldn't sit still, couldn't use whole sentences yet at 3, wasn't ready to read yet at 5.... and being home-schooled allowed him to learn and grow the right way. He is at or above his "grade" in reading now. He gets to have breaks between subjects to play Lego, he has plenty of time to ride his bike throughout the day. Parents, don't dismiss home-schooling! My daughter is 15 and doesn't have the pressure of boyfriends, social media, etc. Her dad is one of her best friends. She knows what she likes and what she doesn't. My son's childhood was disgusting and pathetic before we adopted him. One of the things we were most eager to do, was throw him into a pit of nephews so that they could teach him how to be a real boy. All the rough housing scared him at first, but it was absolutely transformative!! He's not the pathetic loser that his bio family was training him to be, he has turned into a real boy, able to bond with other boys, and shoulder what limited responsibility we thrust on him. We can't afford to let our nation's sons be pressed down and permanently damaged.

I have to add: both of my kids are on IEPs, my son is perfectly willing to work, but due to trauma and possibly ADHD, he has a beast of a time retaining what he learns! He definitely needs help with the three Rs (which are all he needs from a classroom). He progresses every week, and we have no intention to medicate anything except illnesses.

@@TheInfantry98 Joes who had IEPs join all the time. Even if they do decide to make that a disqualifier, neither of my kids should be in the woke cesspool that replaced the military. The army I joined still pretended to have principles, after a decade, it had no redeeming qualities. Too woke, too soft, too worthless.

So helpful! I retired three years ago when I found out my daughter was pregnant, after many years of unsuccessful attempts, sold my house, and moved to be a full time, live in grandpa. His mom and dad work from home and see him throughout the day on work days. I can’t agree with you more on how important every year is to a child’s development. Like you, we took him to a speech therapist. Our experience was better than yours in that she explained that he was only a little behind on speaking, but at less than three years old, was able to comprehend on a five year old level. They basically said don’t worry, he is on track. Just including your children in your day to day life as an equal member of the family, and remembering they are developing children will make them more confident, more inquisitive, and more capable teens and adults.

Dad was in the military, mum was British. Once dad was sent to a base w/out facilities for families. We moved to England for a yr. When we moved back to US my younger sister's teacher wanted to send her to a speech therapist because she had a Manchester accent! Mum had fun with her! 😆😆😆

Amen! We have 4 boys and a girl, homeschooled only so far. Our eldest is a 13 year old boy and shocks adults everywhere with his confidence, character, servanthood and ability to converse with anyone. We have really enjoyed studying history along side classical curriculum and the Tuttle Twins books. We have also joined a martial arts studio where we all (mom and dad included) take classes together at the same time. Its important to cultivate whatever fruit we wish to see in our children. They grow up so fast and its a joy to see our eldest step into manhood.

@@aeneas116116 Agreed. I’m concerned that people who have no prior martial arts experience are still caught up in the illusions of the 80s when traditional Karate was supposed to be the solution. When put to the test it wasn’t training effective techniques for modern real life street scenarios. Breaking boards and kata might look and sound impressive to the untrained, but it’s only an illusion of strength that has no real world application. Zero. (Sorry for preaching a bit here mate, I’m writing this to hopefully challenge other readers who may choose not to interact here.) When it comes down to the most effective techniques, unarmed fighting consists of basically striking, takedowns and grappling. The most effective striking arts are Boxing and Muay Thai, the most effective takedowns are Wrestling and Judo, the most effective grappling is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Sambo. Devote at least 2 years to one in each of the three categories, and then maintain them, and you’ll be prepared for most unarmed situations. But they are only of limited value when a bat/ bludgeon implement, knife/ edged weapon (including a broken glass bottle which represents a deadly threat) or a firearm is introduced in to the equation. As long as people know the limits of their art and their personal limits. There’s so much more to add, but I don’t want to labour the point.

And I love the part where John talks about taking medication, since the beginning of education no one needed these things to help them work.it just takes determination and hard work. I think that question 'am I doing things all wrong' is important to keep us questioning and refining what we do and how we do. Ask the question, I think, is definitely the right practice

Just by questioning if you're doing things right you show you care more than a lot of dads out there. #1 is be present - every parent I see is head down in their phone not even acknowledging their children a lot of the time. You can be firm/discipline them when needed, but always examine yourself to see if you're doing that out of love - out of a desire to make your kids better adults. It all comes down to balance from what I've experienced so far.

You’d be surprised at what can happen with a box of worms and fishing pole. Even a small pile of dirt and a toy truck but the secret is that you get dirty and stinky right along with them. Got girls? Go ahead and let them do your hair and face, talk about hilarious and you will be the coolest dad around. Also give them space but be there to listen to them even when it’s really trivial stuff. You see, their little issues to you are great big issues to them. You have already started the process so off you go to be a great dad. 😊

As an ADHD boy who has never taken medication for it, I am *SOOO THANKFUL* that my parents sought teaching resources to help me cope and grow rather than drugging me like public school wanted. Overcoming those challenges has made me so much stronger as a person. Now I'm a licensed engineer with a beautiful wife who is homeschooling our 2 kids.

I'm very thankful to my parents because while i've never been diagnosed with ADHD my school wanted me tested for it and placed on medication and my parents thankfully said no!

@@woodfamily5229 One of the biggest helps was learning that white noise is a VERY useful tool. The noise itself has varied from a loud fan to a playlist with a type of music, but having certain background noises can play a huge role in allowing you to focus effectively. Another big help is to realize that ADD/ADHD is not just easily distracted, but also the opposite, tunnel vision. It's possible for me to become so overwhelmingly focused on a topic that I completely lose track of time. Being able to realize this and allow myself to get tunnel vision on things I need to, but also to avoid or pull myself out of tunnel vision when I don't need to. As for organization, it's *CRITICAL* to develop some sort of system. For me a big thing is having a dedicated place for things and being disciplined enough to put them back where they go when I'm finished has made it so much easier on my already forgetful brain. Hope that helps!

Ha! We did the same thing with our daughter. The public school tried to tell us she was broken so we yanked her from those people and homeschooled her. They failed her. She is thriving now. She’s dual enrolled in college and high school, member of a home school co-op, youth at church and employed at Chicfila. Thank God for home schooling.

All my boys are grown now but I relate to this. My oldest was in 8th youngest in kindergarten and I really felt God called me to homeschool them. There were so many things that were squeezing the boy life out of them. My youngest would've definitely been put on drugs had I kept them in public school and the middle boy who was in 4th had the creativity crushed in him. Best thing we ever did for our family too.

My coworker is in his mid 40s now, he told me back in public school he could had made profit by selling his prescribed Ritalin pills to his classmates. As of me being 30 now, back in either elementry or middle school I was diagnosed with OCD and one day had a meltdown in the classroom so I was prescribed Zoloft, my parents told me it turned me into a zombie they called my name a dozen times then Id slowly turn towards them in a slow zombie like response so they stopped. I also heard that here in USA theres 110 per 1000 who are prescribed antidepressants. I had a coworker out of the Navy who is on like 6 different SSRIs for her PTSD, so to "fix" the problem they just throw a bunch of pills at you? Nice, maybe think of what new problems may replace the old problem and evaluate if the new problem is less bad, worse, or unchanged as the old problem. Here in California theyre mandating all public school kids get the vax with the QR code & vax card to prove theyre vaxxed, this is one more of multiple reasons that you may want to pull your kids from public school.

I’m still in high school but, I work on my grandparents farm often read history and collect and repair knives and guns and feel my life I’ve lived of rolling in mud and catching snakes and lizards is a life that’s dying in our society. Brace yourself! Three year old boys are wild. 😆 I looked out the back door to the patio yesterday, and saw the 3 year old with his pants down. So I ran out to inform him the patio isn’t an acceptable place to relieve himself, and he had already done ALL his business ON THE PATIO! Just when I think I’ve seen it all, a toddler does something unthinkable. I watched/helped my mom raise 6 awesome boys and I’ve learned a lot of patience and to just accept and encourage boyhood.

I completely agree, I had this happen to me as a kid I had "adhd" and my mom had me going from one pill to the next until she just said she couldn't handle me and gave me over to my dad, and then eventually had my brother given over to my dad too, and it was all good for awhile no pills, but then slowly our dad started abusing us for years, until we were finally able to leave. Now I know that sounds bad but im still young and going through all of this even tho it was bad has helped me in other ways. We didn't know it all the time but our mom was trying to control everything and how both of our lives were going to end up. And her politics had gotten into us as well. And over a few years of being on my own and being my own man I found you guys and many other people in the preparedness/firearm/homesteading/self sufficient life style because of having to deal with all that trauma. So to anyone else reading this, even if something like this happens to you, you WILL overcome it and you can do this!

Boys are fidgety, creative, and need to be active. 10 yrs ago as a Sunday school teacher of young boys at my church, I had a mom approach me on this topic. School wanted to put little “Tommy” on drugs to slow him down. She asked my what I thought. I said ,”your little Tommy is no different than any other boy his age. Active, creative, has a need to move, and best of all, he’s the sharpest boy in my class. If they put him on drugs it will absolutely kill his spirit. As a single mom I understand it’s difficult, but I see nothing wrong with him that more activity and a little discipline won’t take care of.”Public schools don’t wanna deal with it, so drugs are the answer. NOT! It’s so wrong makes my wanna cry for these kids.

Thank you for this. My wife and I had our first son in March, and are consistently having the conversation regarding the future of his education. It always points back to the same conclusion - he's not going to sit in a classroom. He's only seven months old and we can already tell a difference in his development because we give him a controlled environment to explore, play and learn; not to mention, he's got people he trusts leading and teaching him. I will never understand why parents are so willing to outsource the development of their children to untrustworthy adults who aren't invested in them.

Our son was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism and ADHD. He began intervention at 18 months. He went to school early in programs designed for this behavior and it really helped; however, he was so smart that he had to go to regular classes and that's where the problems began. He required a break every 20 minutes and still he was hyperactive. I could see the stress on the teachers faces. Finally we pulled him from traditional schooling and we are home schooling. He is grades beyond his peers and is a far happier kid. It's not for everyone, but I believe these folks are right about boys and I'm gals they spoke out. Thanks!!

My youngest had read over 1000 books by the age of 6. We just take him to the library just 1x per week, along with his older sisters, who have also read thousands of books. They also do soccer, dance, homeschooling groups in our neighborhood, and whatever we want to do as a family. My 3 younger kids have never seen the inside of a classroom.

As a homeschool mother who sacrificed EVERYTHING to get er done, there is no better advice we homeschool moms and dads can give than JUST DO IT. Our biggest take away for you is you control their influences. You’re fighting financially and emotionally now, just think about when little tommy comes home at 5 w a horrible attitude, worse mouth and is wearing a tutu. All jokes aside, our kids have turned out better than the rest and every single struggle you face, other homeschool families have faced along side you. The fights, the stretching, the budgets, the battles, even the spiritual attacks. But brother, it’s beyond worth it to save your flesh and blood. Support that home school mama. It’s the hardest job ANYONE will ever have to give up everything for her husband and be the moral director and educator for his babies.

As a father of two boys, this very subject is something that was really important to us. One way that we found to help in raising our boys to be Men of Character and strength was Trail Life USA. I started a troop in my town through a local church so that my boys could participate and so i could be involved. It's a fantastic organization and I'd love to see Warrior Poet Society and Trail Life USA do some kind of collaboration! Y'all have very similar goals and passions!

The part about behavior, labels, medication and those things following you around reminded me of when my family moved to US. I was in middle school and because I had a limited knowledge of English, I was put in an ESL class (English as Second Language). My parents got the advice that they needed to get me transferred out of it ASAP, otherwise “I would always be an ESL kid.” After some time, I learned more English, I was getting good grades in that class, my parents talked to the school and got me transferred. Meanwhile, the other kids even with better grades and knowledge of English were still in that class. I went from getting good grades in the ESL class to getting mediocre grades in a regular English class, but I was surrounded by native English speakers and I learned English much faster. That has opened some important opportunities for me and I ended up going to a magnet high school as a result. Also, by the time I was in high school my accent was almost gone. A few years later, no one would know that I wasn’t born in US. Sometimes I feel like the goals of ESL classes may not be set correctly because it would put the teacher in a conflict of interest. If I had to guess, the current goal of a typical ESL class is “teach the kid English,” similar to what the goal of a regular English class might be. However, the goal of the ESL class should be “get the kids to a point where they can participate in a native English class.” The goal of ESL class should be to make ESL class obsolete, which is probably problematic for the teacher. Anyway, the earlier a person gets on the right, or at least better, path in their life, the less they will have to fight later on in life since they will already be closer to the good outcomes than people who were not traveling in the right direction.

Came back from fishing all-day as part of our home education freedom. Neighborhpod kids were just getting released from school. My kids have read thousands of books, since they go to the library every week. Public school isn't education. It's an institutional model for training mass conformity, which is the most anti-American program in US history.

There really isn’t a need to push them because they already want to absorb so much. It’s more of a steering job. With modern access to information and libraries galore, the opportunities for a home-based model are endless. Who says I can’t incorporate reloading and shooting into our curriculum? Aircraft construction, avionics, art, drone piloting...

One more thing I'll say is homeschool is a good bandaid for now, but long-term we *NEED* to fix the public education system. Homeschooling is expensive, demanding, and just isn't widespread enough to make the cultural difference we need in this country. Can't forget that some people also just aren't cut out for homeschooling, and know they can't teach their kids everything a proper school could if it wasn't as woke and corrupt as it is now.

I will say that millions of people have joined the homeschool movement in the last couple years and it is much larger now that people realize. I'd say it will have some massive cultural implications in the years ahead. You are right though, we do need to fix the public education system

You can't fix what was specifically designed to break you. Study John Dewey's "My Pedagogic Creed". It's very short, not long at all. He outlines what compulsory school in the US was really meant to be.

I was diagnosed with ADD and given Ritalin for a couple of years. Every once in a while I would forget to take it. I moved to a new highschool and made good friends. One day I forgot to take the medicine and my closest friend said to me "you didn't take your medicine today didn't you?" I go "yea why do you say that" and he said "you just seem so much happier and a part of our conversations when you haven't taken it for the day". I never took another pill again. My parents really wanted me to finish that refill but I stood my ground. Never took another one.

The medication thing is serious. It was the worst mistake my mother ever made. I felt like a complete zombie. Finally I made the decision myself to just stop taking it. After school when I got home I would go and hang out in the woods for hours. I think it saved my life.

The school days typically have gotten longer and there’s less and less physical activity that students are able to do. Hamstrings boys specifically it girls also aren’t done any favors

We raised 2 boys without any meds and they have become outstanding conservative contributors to society that pay taxes and try to help others do better. Were they perfect - absolutely not, but they are great citizens now at 30+.

John, I had something like this start in kindergarten with my youngest son, 2 days in I found out that he had been treated without dignity, being put in an isolated room for a time out... sheesh! Sure, he is diagnosed with autism but SO much of his behaviors are AGE APPROPRIATE! This was 6 years ago... homeschooling and a mix of our private school are the right fit for all 3 of my kids. We are lucky, their PE includes jiu jitsu, they have plenty of time to get out those wiggles and are surrounded by others with shared values. Thank you both for sharing!

Great content as always You guys. I am a Former Marine and was homeschooled all the way until high school and love what you put out John. One thing I think that is missing though is the absolute importance of shielding our boys of the prevalence of porn. When I was young you had to sneak a playboy or hustler magazine, now, with the ease of a simple search, our boys are exposed with the most perverse and grotesque pornography imaginable. This twists and distorts the sexuality of young men and I believe is one of the biggest influences of the depression and anxiety of young men today. As a Marine and being deployed, I struggled with porn addiction for years and until God broke the chains of that sin with the help of my wife. It is of the most importance to us to keep our kids eyes and minds pure of the disgust that is so readily available with the technology of today. Love your input on this subject. Thanks Guys

The founder of Scouting, Lord Baden-Powell, said "Boys are not sitting down animals" and that is why I got my boys into the Cub Scouts and I eventually became a leader. We switched to Trail Life when the Scouts lost their way. When I would talk to new scouts and their parents I would tell them "We are going to do things that will make you laugh and make your mom nervous", but that is what boys need - an adventure and a challenge to measure themselves by and to discover they are capable of so much more than they realize.

I remember when I was 13, my mom and dad separated and my mom immediately took up a new man. Everything changed and fell apart when he came into the photo and changed my world for the worse. I had my first panic attack only I didn't know what anxiety or panic was. My mom was always put on medication for something for a long time and she became a victim of her own bad behaviors and anxieties and she's determined clinically insane. My dad is on anxiety medication everyday . My dad tried to tell me that medication is the only way out. My anxiety these past 3 years has gotten worse, but I started doing all these kinds of experiments on myself like a guinea pig. I started doing exposure therapy and a couple years later I've overcome my anxiety and became strong on my own withought some stupid therapist trying to shove pills down my throat trying to earn their 218 dollars an hour.

I really want to get our 9 year old into home schooling. The issue I'm having is I work full time and my wife tried to do it during the lockdowns with the public schools and she was really stressed out so I don't know what our options are.

getting started is really stressful, but once you land on a curriculum and join a co-op and have some mentorship to help you through some of the questions and doubts....it gets WAYYYYYY easier. We're part of the Classical Conversations world and it's really great. I really do think ya'll gave up too early and she was working too hard in her uncertainty. There's a much smarter and easier way that pays huge dividends in what they're actually learning. My wife is usually done with school with them for the day in somewhere around 2 hours. I guarantee you can pack more real learning into an hour or two than is happening all day in a public school. I'm tempted to say 'all week'! TRY AGAIN and get some help. Fun fact: we're working on making a how-to along these lines in a new class on our WPSN app. It shows how to take control of your kids' education and we've got Matt Beaudreau of Apogee doing it. There are so many resources out there for getting started. If you looked into it I'm certain your area would have a homeschool group that can help you get started. Theres also the Home School Legal Defense Association that has information you need to legally start in your state. It can feel overwhelming at first, but you can do this if its somethingyou really want for your family.

@@Jen-zz7nv this is also where I'm having issues. My wife won't homeschool him unless the state of Virginia forces our son to have to get the Covid vaccine. She won't homeschool because in her mind, if he fails at homeschooling, it's her fault. So that leaves me with either having to leave him in public school or get her to get a job with comparable pay to mine, which she won't find, and I would have to homeschool him. All because of her insecurities.

What a fantastic video! When our son was in 2nd grade, we had a teacher, school counselor, and a psychiatrist tell us our son had ADHD and needed to be medicated. The teacher was freaking out about him drawing tanks, guns, and knives on his folders. Gee, go figure with a cop for a dad and numerous relatives being in the military. We told them to pound sand. The next year, he had a FANTASTIC male teacher and he flourished, a 180 degree turn in academic achievement.

And homeschool taught me how to teach myself! I love that I’m not scared to go try something new, or study to get better at things in life. Playing piano is one of my favorite hobbies and I joke that my teacher moved away before she finished teaching me everything, but I was able to teach myself a lot.
