This series focuses on creating assets procedurally in 3ds Max to enable quick iterations when changes arise. In this video, ‪@paulneale‬ continues using Open Shading Language (OSL) to create dynamic and portable textures across software, allowing you to easily edit and randomize game assets, such as stones and moss.

The real-time viewport update of moss remaining always on top of the structure was a 'yeah, this is what we're talking about!' kind of moment for me. I wish Arnold shaders were visible in the viewport as faithfully as those Physical shaders are, for a render engine that comes bundled with every 3ds Max license, it's a very glaring omission in this day and age.

Looks really powerful and useful @AutodeskME you should definitely invite @paulneale back to do the water tower & house assets in a separate presentation!

around 04:20 What is Scale doing more exactly in the data channel stack? In what way it is blurring?

It is taking the vertex selection that is being pasted up to it in the stack to data channel. Data Channel is then working with that selection to increase it with Scale (I think I said blur by mistake) then it is using Smooth (which is blurring it) so soften the edge of the selection. That is then being placed into a map channel to be used as a mask for the textures.

Awesome stuff!... The Triplanar OSL should come bundled with 3ds Max by default. It's too useful to be a separate download.
