Quite a good implementation of turtle mode by dji. On a “normal” fpv quad you use the pitch/ roll controls to tell the quad which motors to spin up in turtle mode rather than let the quad decide like this.

i think u havent noticed some thing clever here in turtle mode is dat the opposite rotors actually jammed itself to completely enable the flip over here actually the spinnin rotors create a force aginst jammed rotors blade to help it flip out of turtle mode very intelligent thinking over here great job dji

Try it with it laying to the side. It might also be applying a little power to each motor to determine which are touching obstacles and combining with its other sensors.

Most likely it will be broken if it's on the ground unintentionally, but that's very intuitive...I still prefer my regular FPV builds with the DJI air units..Cant wait for DJI to release some of this technology for the home build FPV pilots. It knows which motor to turn because of the gyroscope built in the drone. I've been a tech for over 12 years. That determines which motor to turn by its axis.

I think it might help sometimes, but the DJI isn't going to be flyable after most FPV crashes I've done. probably worth mentioning that once it's upright, you need to assess if it is safe to fly, just taking care and being cautious taking off, looking for vibration - obviously I'm referring to situations where you can't get close to it.

If I get one I probably wont use acro, use it more as fast fpv cruiser with the occasional loop or roll thrown in, mainly because I'm never going to be good at fpv! Human nature though, DJI fans new to fpv will be wanting to get low and fast like they see you tube.

My DJI FPV drone kills my Mavic 2 zoom range and more importantly handling interference. Where my Mavic 2 zoom was losing connection my FPV drone is clear and no drop outs. big improvement.!

This is great to know. What I also would like to know is what if it land in a tree or in grass that obstructs the propellers. I've had that happen and I had to go look for it as I did not know turtle mode (although I think it would not help). Thanks

I have a theory I would love for you to try. I have a feeling, rather than the drone sensing which props are lower, and powering the others, the drone rather powers all 4 at the same time with very low power to see what props are free of hazard. Once the free props have been detected, it then gives them the power needed to flip.

Then DJI adds some more features with some more & then a few more features... & if it's still not there just wait a few months it's coming in an update... I sure hope they have individual motor current draw protection that is actually working, because spinning up the motors over several seconds if they are stuck in grass, twigs or dirt is likely way worse than a quick blip like on a real FPV drone. I get the automation, it's very.. DJI. And that's fine, but I'd rather not smoke a motor because of that automation if I'm stuck in a place where I can't get to the drone.

Way cool Aldryn! Rather than determining prop height like you suggested, the drone may momentarily sense which blades have made contact with the ground and wont spin, while spinning the props that are free spinning.... pre programed that way and which direction to spin the props.

You should try on slope and sideways, maybe a test on a few sticks and leaves and bark and other uneven terrain so we can get a feel of what it can and get turtle out of

In normal mode drone probably won't do any flips so thats the idea i guess its not working in those 2 modes. There are limitations for motors spinning direction and speed in normal mode.

On turtle mode on other fpv drones does the drone pick up which propeller are stuck or not Turing and then turn the other props so that it doesn't break the props.
