I always crush the eggshells & give them back to my chickens. I used to put them in the oven for a while, but I haven't done that in a long time. So far it hasn't caused mine to eat their eggs, but again, I do crush them (usually just by hand). And of course I will also boil a big pot of eggs, when I have extra, & just mash them up with a potato masher (shell & all), & feed that back to my chickens. 🙂

I strain my bacon grease into a jar, then I use it to cook my eggs. Then again I always cook three lbs at a time and keep cooked bacon in my fridge. I pull out a couple pieces at a time warm them while I fry the eggs.

We saved them last year, ground them up and put them around our tomato plants. THE BEST tomatoes we ever grew and nearly blemish free.

We will be using them in our garden!

I don't currently have chickens, but I add my shells with coffee grounds & add to the dirt around my tomato plants. The shells ward away things like slugs, add calcium to my soil & coffee "wakes" up my plants, lol.
@AcresOfAdventure Жыл бұрын
We did egg shells under the tomato plants last year and had great success! Maybe we will add the coffee this year too, I've never heard of that one.

Quick question, what does the red pepper flakes, yeast, and rosemary do for the chickens?

Thanks for posting this! We discovered our soil was calcium deficient last year, and we’ll definitely use this!

How did you find this out?
@northofeight349 Жыл бұрын
@@myunknownland9272 I did research on why our tomatoes were rotted on the bottom.

I'll ground them fine and put them under the tomatoes when we transplant for calcium. Experimenting with extracting the minerals with cider vinegar for foliar spraying.

After we've used the oven for baking I often throw our egg shells in the oven to dry out and kill any bacteria that might be there. Take a step yo save a step. Great video.

That’s a good idea!
@higginsfamily81873 ай бұрын
I do the same. I put my egg shells in an old oven safe skillet as I use my eggs and just “store” that right in my oven so it’s off my countertop. Then I can dry them as I preheat the oven and set them out on countertop as other food is baking, or pop them into oven when I turn it off after baking other things. There is plenty of heat still in oven to dry them completely.

I put the dried egg shells in my coffee filter. Great way to get your calcium. Or you can put them in pill capsules. I just rinse them off before I save them.

Thanks for sharing. We take an old aluminum cake pan and just toss them into the oven. Set to 350, once it preheats to 350, I just turn off the oven. Free calcium!.

Just like you and I chickens are immune to their own “filth” 😂 their immune to their own bacteria and germs they create like we do. Now if I come in contact with your germs or bacteria then I may become very sick or worse. Same for chickens. Their eggs should be fine to feed them just wash em if worried or do them in the oven especially store bought or from anyone else.

I 100% agree with this statement. People freak out a little after reading one thing and think that means you can’t do something instead of looking into it a little more

I'll tell you an easier way to break down your eggs.I put all my egg shells in a container as soon as I have a large amount saved up I run them through my food processor you can make them as small as you like they.When that step is done I just sprinkle them on my compost bin.
@kellydice5764 Жыл бұрын
So this doesn't teach them to try and eat their own eggs? I've only been doing this 2 years and I was told if they eat their own eggs they won't stop? So I been afraid to try it however recently one broke and they were eating it but haven't caught them doing it since then. We do give oyster shells but if this works it's definitely a money saver.
