Nice Travis! Your landscaping is really looking great! Keep that sod like a swamp. Best of luck with it. Back in 2006 I did a complete lawn renovation with KBG sod. Almost 2,000 sqft. It was July in the middle of a heat wave with temps close to 100 with very little rain. I went to the sod farm and the guy laughed at me when I asked to buy that much sod. He said the only way he would sell it to me was if I had an irrigation system. Well, during my renovation I had installed an irrigation system. He actually came out to the house to check for it. Lol. Anyway., I kept it like a swamp when watering for the first two weeks and it all took. Since then just regular maintenance and an overseed now and again. Still looks like the first year I put it down. Oh and my water bill. It was a little over $1,000 that summer. Save your money Buddy. Lol.

Looking good on the new sod. I have to throw all the rules out for infrequent. I live in Phoenix az and we are 110 deg. for the next two and a half months. I am running three times a week to keep my screwdriver down 4-6". This year I changed to mowing twice a week from three times. Yes, the water bill goes up but in the desert all things need water... LOL, LOTS of water.

Out here in the Bay Area, we haven’t seen a consistent rain in over a month n a half, temps out here been hitting 90s and triple digits the last few days. I’m a week n a half into my tiftuf sod and I increased my watering to 4 times a day during those hot periods, the grass is already rooting in nicely. Definitely going to follow your advice though because I don’t want my lawn to rot out at this point.

Hope you see this question: new zoysia laid has some 1/2” to 1” gaps at seams in places, what about filling gaps with half sand half compost or something to help along, only 1 week in as of today. Thanks and I enjoy your channel.
@BudgetLawns

Thanks for the support. I'd let it get established for a bit before I did anything. Then I'd just use sand. I prefer the all sand route over a mix, but I do it for bermuda. Those gaps will fill in some as the grass spreads. Hope this helps. Appreciate ya!

We call this CS water “golden water” because of the high water cost. I think the lowest our bill has ever been was $99, usually floats above $150 during the heat of the summer.

@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
It is extremely hot. With it as hot as it is for you, you might wanna be getting 1.5 inches a week. That can be hard to do though. Yellow, or brown, can be a sign of some dormancy setting in or fungus from overwatering. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching the videos. I appreciate you.

Hi Travis this Bob Wilson question for you i seed Bermuda grass it germinates good come out very green after 3-4 weeks it turn in yellows and dry out have any idea why?any answer will be appreciate 👨
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns Жыл бұрын
Hey bob. New grass from seed is a lot like sod when it comes to watering. You need to make sure it stays moist for quite some time until it gets some good roots going. Sounds like it might have just dried out from being short on water. Try boosting that up a bit and see how it responds. Don’t want to overwater though. Thanks for watching. Hope this helps.

Would you wait 9 months with fresh topsoil to add sod in spring? Then you’re fighting erosion, weeds, and a whole host of other things. Sod isn’t just for the grass. It serves many other purposes. The sod was laid after a 3 month retaining wall installation. It was the final step.
