Thank You Gary...It is always nice to see a beautiful piece of wood with NO cracks. From my perspective I am always loosing so very much because of rot or cracks. I always start with an idea than need to pare it down and work around the left over good wood. Your Burl looks wonderful (Burls usually do when aged correctly?). ... I love watching you make your ring bowls! I was thinking if using a couple strips of masking or duct tape on the back would be helpful in protecting the cut piece from bouncing around? ... Gary I LOVE that Burl bowl you created from a simple flat piece !!!.. Until next time...TM
@ThePapa19472 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much TM! I sure is a nice piece of burl for sure. I have thought about having a backing piece behind it to keep them from flying off. Masking tape might do the job as well. I was concerned with the first ring cracking when it came loose. That is why I stopped in time to just pull it loose. Strange you can actually hear right before it is ready to come loose. And that is with my old and damaged ears LOL. Take care my friend, Gary

Gary, this is one beautiful bowl. What a great use for a gorgeous piece of burl. When I use my press, I found that by putting a wheel bearing (any autopart store) on top of the work, it is unmoved by the twisting action of the press as I tighten it. How I wish I had a piece of scrap like that!
@ThePapa19472 жыл бұрын
Thank you Josh! The end of my press not only adjust to the fit but it also is free spinning so I do not need a bearing on it. So I have not twisting issues to contend with. But I could see how a bearing could be helpful if needed., I never toss anything away so these scraps will get used at some point. Thanks for watching, Gary

@@ThePapa1947 I think some of the boards I have will be engraved with a CNC router/laser with the history of the wood. Very beautiful, Gary! I always hate to turn away so much burl and I have yet to buy a bowl saver. Maybe I'll get more out of them now. Thank you.

Thank you Rick. I understand not wanting to turn all that beautiful wood from a large burl. I do not have a bowl saver either. Not really on my list of things I want. But it would be nice for a large burl for sure. Thanks for watching, Gary

I always learn something new from your videos Gary. This time it was the different angles used to cut the rings. Tell more about the photo at the end of the video please. Stuart

Thanks so much Rick. That picture was taken on a trip where we headed up to Canada. It was at the National Bison Range in the state of Washington. Thanks for watching. Gary
