This was a helpful video , Thanks !.... I'll be doing the same two ,on my 2000 Silverado got the bed off , parts are ordered , just cleaning the rust off and painting around the work area . I got new leaf springs and shocks . Going to be like a new truck ! I'm going to do a axel dump on the exhaust , so i don't care that there is no hanger on the rear crossmember. I'll just cut off the fuel tank one .

The crossmember kit worked! You did very very good quality work. Cheaper than paying 70k for a new truck.

Great job, someone once told me you cannot be a mechanic without being a welder, looks like that's the case here for sure. I wish I knew how to weld... noob question, what kind of welding is this?
@KelseyandJesse2 ай бұрын
Tig welding. Mig would have been a lot easier but I didn’t have a machine powerful enough to weld it.

on my 77 square frame my crossmember rotted, that lead to frame flexing and the spring mount cracking.. so keeping an eye on any rusty crossmember or adding extras will keep your truck on the road longer for sure...

Yeah, newer chevys are horrible for frame rot. I’ve been following this guy on Facebook he’s done a lot of gmt900 and a few newer ones like a 2018 Chevy. Crazy

Were u able to just grind the old part of the supports completely out? I thought I would have to use a torch for it. This would be so much easier lol.
@KelseyandJesse2 жыл бұрын
On this one I just used a grinder and didn’t remove much extra material. On the second one I just cut a box around the tube, way faster since you have a plate to cover it up

Jesse, Thank you for posting your video! Hope you are doing well and truck is running good. I just found out I need a crossmember for my 32’ Bucket truck, it’s a 93 GMC 2 wheel drive 3500. Do you know if a truck like this can get its cross member replaced from underneath?
@KelseyandJesse2 жыл бұрын
I don’t see why not. I only had the bed off since I didn’t have on at the time 🤣it wouldn’t surprised if you could just modify one of the kits for the newer trucks.

@jessemoulton90662 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely a lot easier with the bed already off. The one I replaced in the video was the easier of the two since you don’t have to drop the tank. I’d say I had about 10-12hrs into both and that’s doing it for my first time. If I had to guess somewhere 10-20hrs. There is a lot that can go wrong on a rusty truck :). Hope it works out well for you.

Little confused, i dont think the plate would fit on the inside. Plus it would be the same difference if i welded it on the inside.
