Bunjie (The O.B.) is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After more than a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired. Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows) a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at nearly 400 fps!
Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. This crossbow was also a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of our story as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow (see our 2020 Maryland Doe Hunt).

I sometimes bleat or grunt to get them to stop. But at times, that can startle a deer and have the opposite effect. Clicking may work better. @@Deathbybunjie

Another A+ production! This is why I love Death by Bunjie so much. Rich and Bunjie get it done, and it’s just that simple. Name me a better channel out there for us crossbow hunters? And man what a job those Dragon Claw arrows paired with the 3” Swhacker’s do. That buck didn’t go anywhere. I hunt with a Ten-Point RS440 Havoc, it’s a great crossbow, but I have had a few issues this year with it, and it’s only two seasons old. That is almost 100% going to steer me clear of ever paying that much for a crossbow again, and at least until all the kinks are worked out of them. One issue was huge, the other two not so much. Looking into getting the Swat and Oracle combo very soon. Rich really deserves his own hunting show on TV. This channel is just that good!!💯👍🏻🫵🏻

Rich I gotta start taking a camera out in the woods with me. I had the coolest hunt of my life the other day. I saw a hot doe enter a bedding area and knew things were about to get a little crazy. Before long I heard continuous snorting and crashing coming my way. About 10 seconds later, ol Mossy Horns burst out of the thicket chasing a buck much smaller than him. Another nice buck was running up the hill. The big boy chased that smaller buck down until the smaller one pretty much just collapsed to the ground in submission with only his head held up. The big boy loomed over him from several yards away and growled and grunted. I tried all I could to get Mr big to come 80 more yards. He just grunted back at me in the same tone as you'd expect to hear from a dinosaur and growled. He then beat up several trees in a display of force and dominance and headed back in stiff legged, ears back, hair bristled on his back, to find his girlfriend. Eventually the other nice buck having escaped the humiliating experience of his smaller counterpart decided his life was more important than that old doe and worked his way down to me. He entered the laurel to my right about 60 yards above me. I grunted loudly at him and he instantly stiffened up, ears back, and started making scrapes. Then, he took out some major frustration on some laurel bushes and worked deeper into the laurel. I grunted and bleated to him again. He turned and came at a dead trot ready to steal a girl from a lesser opponent than he had just faced. He bellowed out a couple grunts then Out he came where he spotted me at 34 yards and hit the brakes. Too late, though. I was able to slip one in the boiler room. He turned and trotted back into the laurel. I gave him about 45 minutes and it was an easy 60 yard track job. He's in the 120s according to the taxidermist and the big buck that ran him out was so much bigger. I'm so happy Pennsylvania has done what they've done to seriously increase the size and number of the Bucks in our deer herd. This was something folks in Iowa or Kansas probably see often but I've never seen anything like this happen before. Congratulations on your buck! You've had a great season and I'm happy you share it all with us!

Congrats Rich! I shot a large doe November 4th and used a 3" swhacker broadhead as per your suggestion. It not only severed the front leg bone, but passed through and left a blood trail like I've never seen before. Thank for your videos and may God bless you!

Thats a unique shot angle we don't normally see in hunting videos. You could see the crossbow "muzzle", the entire bolt trajectory, the target and even beyond for any passthrough. You almost never get the whole picture. Most hunters just zoom in on the deer and you see impact, but being able to see the whole flight path has so much value that I appreciate the wider full view of the action. And while I'm at it, I appreciate how much of your content is ground-game action. I was recently in my climber and just wanted to get out of it. I also dislike saddles and no enough dangling from heights with my fall retention system at work hanging from doka panels and such. I spent half the day in a stand and realized I woulsve been ready and more reactive if I'd been on the ground. I remember your ground arsenal mobile set up and I want to add one more piece of gear: the kneepad gunrest turkey hunters seem to love. I might get another one to have them on both knees since I'm an ambidextrous shooter and swapping strong sides means less body movement to adjust for surprises. Id love to hear and see more ground hunting tips, videos and content whenever you get around to being in the woods on state land.

What a great day! My son and I arrived in Indiana yesterday for our 9 day first ever crossbow hunts. We saw a nice buck, I got busted by a doe and had a bobcat at my tree. Then when I get back to the apartment, tired and sore, I get to unwind with a video of you bagging a great buck!

Warm weather in Wisconsin has really screwed up the deer movement. Many hunters report not seeing much and harvest numbers are down 16%. A cold front is moving in and apparently we will be in the teens for lows in a couple days. It’s still worth getting out there.
