Only a heartless person wouldn’t feel sorry for that poor cow that lost her calf…..weak, sick and depressed (I’m sure). Poor creature. As far as the calf you saved, surely the little one benefitted from your caring attention and handling. You’re very compassionate as a cattleman.

Animals are “feeling”. They grieve/mourn/love/experience loneliness etc like us. Funny, if people believe their animals can love them, then know they also feel the tough emotions too. Thank you for treating your herd with compassion. ❤

I'm sure you saw and are already dealing with it, but at the 8:09 mark in the video, the all black cow has a serious case of mastitis, one nipple is massively engorged. Good look with the preemie.

Always sucks having a premie. Instead of putting the calf in the truck and trying to get the cow to follow, have you tried pulling a sled? I know in the past my cows will follow there calf better when I have a toboggan about 25-30 feet behind me instead of carrying them on the 4 wheeler.

Odd time of year, but could be pineneedle disease. ? If you've had a drought Hmmm 35 lbs is small? Our first calf heifer jersey calves are that... normal here. Never had trouble with them sucking down least 3/4 bottle .. A good dairy cow has a higher fat content than a beef cow

Angus are typically 50+, and that's small in the beef world. Some breeds can be 100+ at birth.

Do you still work another full time job? I can't imagine how difficult it would be to care for that many cows and work another full time job. I assume you want to do this full time. How many head would it take to have a full time beef cow operation selling cows at market in your area? Have you considered selling meat yourself? I now there are lots of laws and slaughter/ butchering houses for individual farmers are nearly a thing of the past.
