The old petrol tap cork looked alright. Unless it was showing sighs of wear or disintegration, then just boil it for 20 minutes or so, when its dried a bit then oil it, and Bob's your uncle it most likely will shut off OK. The advantage of a completely natural and non synthetic carbon friendly material. Cheers.

I may well have gone that route, but it was for a customer and the rebuild kit was good value.. I still have the original in a box just in case. Thanks for watching
