On your opening you talk about different aspects of art you talk about...don't forget you promised an episode of how artists mixed their own paints a couple of centuries ago. I waiting for that one!

Hahaha That's a good memory Moonie, I will, I promise, I also Have one in my head about Durer, (and I already do have some material for it, but sometimes gets so difficult to be able to do all I want. It may not look, but filming all the steps of this simple video, preparing materials, having everything together to film, then editing it, and preparing it to upload to YT. I don't stop.:) AND I AM NOT COMPLAINING, because I love it. But the fact is that, if I want to fulfill a certain schedule, I get a bit nervous. Also, because of some official purposes, very often, I do have to be out of Antwerp, or Belgium for some days, and that time that I am not here to film or work makes things even more difficult. But I will do these videos you are talking about, it is such an interesting subject, that I believe it will make a nice video.

Hello good morning, a lot of YTUBERS are uploading on these days, so YT platform is experiencing some logistic problems. This my video for example still in processing for 4K, didn't finish yet, and is on platform, already for one week. I don't think YT also delivered notifications to you, since I already answered to your questions about 3 days ago. I hope you receive this one. Thank you.

This was absolutely awesome Eduardo. Your work as a conservator is superb and it's wonderful to see that lovely still life stabilized & protected. Your work as a videographer is wonderful too. Your camera angles are excellent, your close ups let us see what you want to show, and when you speed up the action is just perfect. I can't wait to see the next steps of restretching and retouching!😁🤗 This was a lovely video to wake up to. Thanks, Eduardo.

HOOOOO Vickie thank you so much for your lovely comment, and positive vibe, I feel I was needing those words, to give me some Impetus to go forward. I know I have to be patient, things take time, but I confess sometimes I feel a bit frustrated. But I am also optimistic, and I believe that the future of this channel is promising, it only takes time, and some (or a lot) of strategy. I am so glad you found the videography ok. Can you believe that I was thinking to myself, (That is not good Eduardo, you need to improve so much). But this is a journey, and step by step, it will go there. The following procedures require time to dry in between, but I really would love to be able to publish it next Tuesday. I hope Universe can help me to achieve it. Thanks again Vickie

As always, this video that you created is fascinating. It's so good to see how re-lining and inset patches can work without using large pieces of equipment (like heating and vacuum tables); seeing this, the idea of becoming a conservator seems less overwhelming, more attainable. Your willingness to bring viewers into each step of the process makes the art/science/craft/skill of conservation feel welcoming. If you have the time, would you mind answering a few questions for me? Your videos make me very curious. 1. Do you ever have problems where two adhesives are mutually exclusive? For instance, I've been working on a poured epoxy floor, and if I want to paint a picture between the layers, I have to use paint that is not water-based because the epoxy makes watery paint bead up and roll away. Do you encounter problems like that? Would you still be able to use a water-based adhesive over top of the thermo-plastic adhesive that secures the painting to the new lining? 2. Does the adhesive you soaked into the back of the canvas to secure the paint to the front also help to secure the patches in place? What happens if the adhesive dribbles out of the edge of the canvas and gets onto a patch? 3. Are there any symbols or messages you see in this pair of paintings, now that you have been studying them closely for some time?

Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Yes, sometimes can look a bit overwhelming the work of a conservator, but when you love the art, you find other ways to do it. I am not a "BIG" conservator, my feet are well in the ground, and I have enough humility, to know my dimension. But I am very happy because I am free to do what I love. At this moment, I do things with what I have. Now, I am more like a traditional conservator. Art conservation exist for centuries, of course, now we are lucky because we do have a lot of products that can help us. The vacuum table is a very nice tool, but that involves an investment, that I am not able to make, right now. But I believe that in the future I will have one, The fact is that in our profession as a conservator, that is a very good tool, but while I don't have one, I use the more traditional technic... I am going to try now, to answer your questions. 1- I understand the situation you are facing with epoxy which is very similar to my materials. I do work with a very large range of solvents, for example, the liquid adhesive I applied solves in toluene, which is incompatible with water. but the thermoplastic adhesive I did apply, is from the same family as the liquid one, so they work well together. I work with solvents that some can be solved in another solvent, but normally they can not be solved in water. I sincerely don't know any water-based adhesive I could use on top of the thermoplastic Adh I applied, and I don't believe that would work. 2- The liquid adhesive I applied, also help to secure the patches, although, they were previously secured with another adhesive and Japanese paper. If the adhesive dribbles out of the edge of the canvas and gets onto a patch, there is no problem, at this stage, I didn't clean yet the front of the painting and removed the varnish, when I do that, any adhesive that may be in the front, will come out, with the solvent, I will use to clean the old varnish out. 3- Well, these paintings are very beautiful, but I think that in this case the artist's intention, was just to make 2 nice beautiful still-life paintings. Although the presence of fruits in a painting has the intention to remind us, viewers, of our "fragile" condition as humans. Like fruit that is born, grows, gets rip, and after (if not consumed) gets in putrefaction. That is some kind of metaphor of a (vanitas) to remind us of the transient nature of our existence. Both paintings have grapes, that in the painting are normally associated with fertility and abundance. Also, pears are associated with abundance and longevity. In the other painting ( for a future video) there are peaches which in painting is more connected with immortality, but also with sensuality. But like I said, In this case, in my humble opinion, the artist did put his efforts into making 2 beautiful paintings.

@@Figueiredoartconservation It is wonderful that you are free to do what you love to do. 😊 Since having a vacuum table would make your work easier, I will pray for you to be able to get one in the future; for now, though, it is very good and interesting to see the techniques you use that Conservation has developed during its long history. In response to your replies: 1. The fact that the adhesives you use are related and the same solvent can be used on many of them is very interesting to learn. That must make planning the steps for each conservation easier, because you do not have to worry about one adhesive not working with another. That's a very good situation! 2. Thank you for answering a mystery about the patches, for me! I have seen conservators place patches, glue them down, fill in the edges, and eventually paint on the patches, but I had never seen a conservator clean a patch. Cleaning a painting has always looked like a meticulous process, and the videos usually focus on that, so I did not know it was possible to clean repairs at the same time as the rest of the painting. That is good to know! 3. The artist created a pair of pleasant and joyful paintings, for sure, and I am glad to know that he probably created them simply to be enjoyed and admired. And your thoughts on what fruits can symbolize are very interesting! That fruit as a category represents the transience of life and the physical world, but that individual fruits like pears and peaches can mean longevity and immortality, represents a dichotomy that will make me think harder the next time I see a painting. Thank you so much for your willingness to teach and to answer questions!

Caro Paulo, obrigado por comentar, Confesso que nao conhecia este compositor que o Paulo sujeriu, e fui procurar na net. Encontrei aqui no Yt, tambem.
