Michael, as for the chicken, if the antibiotics aren't helping I think I might know whats wrong. Not sure how its called exactly in English, but feel the front of belly if it's swollen and/or you feel a lot of stuff in it. If it is, then there is food stuck that is not getting digested. This can be fixed quite easily, but it is nasty: chickens are uncapable of vomitting, so you'll have to help her do so. Best/easiest is doing it with 2 people. One person holds her and tilt her with her head down a bit. The other person massages the front belly. This can take a minute but after a while she will start to vommit and believe me, it stinks like hell. When she does, take a brake once in a while, as she cannot breathe properly whilst this is happening. Edit: as to why I think it might be this issue, we have chickens ourselves and the sound she makes is similar to what one of ours had. The food not getting digested makes the stomach infected, producing a lot of thick slime. Due to this you hear the weird breathing. It might not be the case, but checking if her front belly is swollen (and feeling like a big bag full of water and stuff) is very easily done. Hope this helps in figuring out whats wrong with her.

Also I found with my birds that they need gravel to digest their food beside their regular food.
@30gatoscallejeros833 жыл бұрын
I used to keep chickens and we always had a bowl of oyster grit available to them to aid digestion in the crop...or as an alternative you can bake eggshells in the oven for a bit to kill bacteria etc. then crush them up to put in a bowl for them. They know when they need to eat it, amazing animals, very funny to watch too. That's a great run and coop they've got💪

@@30gatoscallejeros83 We have that grit as well, I think that one time this chicken ate something that didn't digest well. We always give them, in addition to their normal corn and such, our leftovers and that time it was some Chinese food. Some pieces that came out seemed a bit too large, chicken probably thought it swallow big chunks as is, but that didn't go so well. Could also be something else that caused it, it happened last year and hasn't happened since and also to no other chickens of all the years we've had them. But yea, I hope that if Michaels chicken has the same issue it gets resolved. If the stomach is infected/aggitated, you might have to do the procedure a few times over a couple of days, but it worked well in our case. A dirty and weird job to do, making a chicken vommit, but it helped.

For the chickens, you may want to consider treating the whole flock as a preventive. They have been exposed. You need to clean out all the water immediately and refresh the bedding. Antibiotics in the water is the best way to treat them all, just for a week or so. Good luck!

100 % agree with @29. The entire flock needs treatment. You might check with the farmer next door about availability of antibiotics for purchase at the local feed store/agricultural supplies. Usually, cleaning the water trough w/chlorine(bleach) and adding medicated water protects the flock. Good luck. ************************

As someone mentioned, the stone lifting may have triggered the neck, shoulder pain ( it’s likely levator scapular muscle and deltoids that attaches to clavicle and occipital bones ( shoulder and base of head) Those muscles are what you use to lift. If I were treating you (22yrs a massage therapist) I would work on those muscles, ice for initial pain then heat. Sometimes a contrast shower of hot/ cold in cycles can confuse pain signals. Rest, anti inflammatories and a good massage therapist is the best. If it doesn’t resolve in a couple days after that treatment I’d recommend chiropractic, but my feeling is it’s really muscular. Hope you and Bluebell will Feel better! She does sound horrible…

Hi Michael, I have an old rotator cuff injury that flairs up once in a while so I get mild pressure massage and put on a sling to keep me from straining or using it. I also use arnica oil. I microwave tube socks filled with beams and rice …….. for a few minutes / 2 mon a sock …. place socks on clavicle are - sternum - around neck - between the shoulder blades - on the upper arms - around the neck …… move them around every 10 - 20 minutes ……. repeat as needed …… a massage is much more relaxing …… but sock therapy is cheaper

Hello Michael-I’m sorry you are not doing so well at this time. You should see a doctor because you don’t know if you should be applying heat or cold (cold I imagine) to that shoulder/neck area to help with the inflammation. It’s a bother I know but you may heal better in the end. And you are treating your pretty chicken as well-I hope she improves very soon. I wanted to thank you Michael for the inspiration regarding Spode Blue Italian. Long before I was following your self and Stephanie I had bought a few Spode Blue & White plates to hang on the wall in my dining room-LOVED them and still do. I also had bought the B I teapot in some sort of a sale somewhere. When I saw your collection in your pretty cottage something inside me CLICKED! I have always loved dish-ware, china and crystal too. Blue and white have always been a favorite color combination in anything decorative. I am almost 70 in December, I don’t care. I am collecting Spode Blue Italian as my budget will allow-I LOVE IT SO MUCH! THANK YOU for the inspiration, it brings me SUCH joy!!

Hello Michael. Hopefully you see this comment. I am not a vet but I work in the animal feed business so I receive a lot of info on chickens. You should check for avian flue. It is extremely contagious and we are currently in high risk periode in France (since yesterday as announced by the agriculture department). May be check the news in France for "influenza aviaire". These risks periods happen every year as the wild birds are migrating. But please check more information on that to protect the rest of your flock but also chickens that might be around in farms. If in doubt, ask a vet. 🐔😷

I just started the video but I have to say, after the banter with Sean about cursing and bleeping it out, it reminded me that since you’ve been filming a few times a week this month, you seem more at ease and happier on camera. I know the pressure to make things really good and the constant thought of how to present your self really weighed on you after your success. As someone who is detailed oriented (sometimes a perfectionist) and REALLY has trouble getting started on projects or even chores (and finishing them if I have to start again), I totally feel how daunting it must be to film and get a video edited and out! But it seems like the more you film every day life, the easier it gets for you and it really is going to add to your skills and success. I don’t even know you, but I am proud of you for the way you have come through the last couple of years and shown yourself to be tenacious and authentic to who you are on your channel. Keep that camera in your pocket ready for anything (I was honestly surprised that you have been pretty much iPhone-only this whole time, your footage when cutting together a special sequence is so cinematic. Apple ought to be paying you and featuring your footage in their shot on iPhone” ads!)

Some of the wood around the dormer's looks so fragile and cracked. Should it be replaced? I'm not a carpenter so? Hoping you feel better soon! ❤️ i have back pain frequently, and lying on a wood floor and getting your back as flat as possible and putting a thick book under your head and resting that way for as long as you can, helps immensely! While your lying there, give yourself a hug but pulling each shoulder towards you and then flatten as much on the floor. Ot sounds weird but helps.

Hi Michael....I've over lifted and stretched all my life and I have pain between my shoulder blades, arm, up my neck, down my back, similar to what you're describing sometimes. So, for what it's worth, my Chiropractor gave me a hint and it works for me. Roll up a towel, tightly and place it on your bed lengthwise....fold your arms in front of you and gently lay back on the rolled up towel (should be placed in the same direction as your spine)....lay back and, although you'll feel it, it could be that your back is out, so you'll hear some popping....don't worry about it, lay there for about 10 seconds, then slowly get up, do this again in a few hours and hopefully, IF that's the problem and everything is slowly going back into place, the inflammation will cease and you should have some relief.

Great extra grit for your chickens is egg shells. My Nanna raised chickens all her life and always fed the shells to the chickens. Whatever she used every day was put in a separate bowl then put in bottom of the oven for 10 minutes. Crush them up and put in feed. This gives better shells on all your eggs and helps the chickens with the grit they need and protein for better eggs. It’s an old Irish thing but really works well.
@rowenacountryman22423 жыл бұрын
We always done the shells in the oven. Most people think I am crazy when I tell them. We do oyster shells to but their own are better for their digestion and for thicker shells with new eggs. If your shells get thin you just aren’t given them enough shells. I really hope Belle gets better. Another vlogger is dealing with BUMBLEFOOT. It’s caused from them jumping on and off sharp surfaces, scratching the feet, the poop caused bacteria to grow so you have to soak their feet in epson salt 1-2 times a day as you squeeze out the infection. The things that people will do to save a chicken or a pet is crazy and heartwarming. As I sit here slowly typing this comment I am pretty sore and in severe pain in the same area and I hope you won’t have to keep this as a new normal. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it doesn’t take much to set it off especially when you are reaching up to hang candles and dd
@rowenacountryman22423 жыл бұрын
And put in roofing. I’m hoping it’s not to bad. I get the same spot and it just keeps coming back. The one thing that hurts it the most though was being on my phone. Typing is by far the worst. My doctor said that holding phones out in front of us while typing with our thumbs are causing carpal tunnel. Very painful and very frustrating because there isn’t much that can be done for it. Good luck

Michael there are several sites online to help with your chicken. The way she was breathing opening her beak could be chronic respiratory disease but if treated she will be okay. She needs to be quarantined to another area away from the flock. Most feed stores will have antibiotics for her to take. I know it's hard to find a veterinarian that will take care of chickens. I raised chickens for many years and using my nursing skills was able to keep them healthy. If you give her medicine do not eat her eggs for a bit after medicine is done. Instructions will be on label. Good luck with her and don't give up on her. I would give the coop a good cleaning also.
