This is a magnificent video, Bill!! The “chest pounding” of entitled expats who fight against the very culture they came to visit/live in is mind boggling. The counsel to “slow your roll” and recognize our place here as GUESTS is as wise as it is refreshing to hear. Thank you!

If you want me to act as a guest then treat me as a guest. Don't try and rip me off just because you think you can.

Didn't we just meet the other night at Gunnys??? I was with my gf, we talked about computers and there were two other expats there?

Wala out of stock... keep looking. Directions they have apps for that, i never travel alone, let your friend or relative ask another pinoy . You have to learn to go with the flow, conflicts learn to apologize sorry, sorry even if you're not wrong

Asking a Filipino for directions or asking a Filipino the locations of a businesses can also bring out the "saving face" mentality. They would rather lie to your face and send you in the wrong direction then just say "I don't know". Don't trust anybody for directions, learn google maps.

I hear in Japan this "wrong directions are better than no directions" thing is really a big thing for tourist.

The question I have is: is it deception, pure and simple? Or do I simply see it as deception because of my Western upbringing?
@imexpatbill10 ай бұрын
When compared to our culture I guess it would be deception. Filipino pride runs deep, and saying things like "I am sorry" or admitting to being wrong are hard to say.

I wouldn't want to "save face" when that face has no honor, honesty or integrity. The "saving face" culture prevents growth and exceptional development; you cannot improve if you are unable to accept you are less than perfect.
