A wood working video with a hilarious twist. I needed a laugh today.
@Festus17119 күн бұрын
Well done! I think you exacted revenge on behalf of many of us. I grew up with power tools and learned the hard way that the cheaper planes were not all they're cracked up to be. Luckily for me, I had an old Stanley #8 (of all things) that worked as sort of a benchmark of how a plane should perform. It's been a few years now, and my experience and understanding has improved to the point that I have either got them working or repurposed them.

Thank you! I remember my first plane was one of these. Frustration isn't the word and yeh, I thought I was the problem! What did I know?! Yeh, it could have easily discouraged me! Thankfully there's woodworkers like you on KZbin who help educate and I love you all for that! Thank you again! ❤❤❤

We’ve all tried to use a hand plane or chisel or even a crappy table saw or bandsaw with the same frustration. Thanks for teaching us to know the difference.

Spot on message. Truly memorable revenge technique. I have a short handle sledge that I call my "decision maker". I have a tendency to mess with a tool FOREVER. But, years ago, I discovered the decision maker. If a tool is resisting my efforts, I ask the decision maker for guidance. After a couple "suggestions", the decision maker shows me the correct direction. The last tool is asked for help with was a devious stud finder that led me astray many times. The decision maker made sure it would no longer show mystery studs or worse, show no studs at all. Great video. Thanks.

Awesome! That looked like a Great Neck plane. Junk! I had, for fun, bought a Kobalt No.4 plane. I NEVER got it working. I could restore a 120yr old Stanley any day. Ive repaired so many planes, it isn't even worth mentioning, but that Kobalt REFUSED to work. I even tried hacks that others have tried and nothing would ever make that plane take shavings. I held onto it for 2 years before I finally destroyed it

I suppose I got lucky with my cheapo no4 knockoff, it was actually easier than the new made Stanley no3 (baily) to get in working order (new made Stanleys are NOT worth the money nor the effort).
@grumpyoldsodinacellar351817 күн бұрын
I fully agree, when covid struck, I took up hand tooled woodwork as a hobby (I'm retired) bought the cheapest new #4 I could find on the bay and spent some time making it work, I got there eventually. I still have that 4, it made me learn a lot about hand planes as I couldn't afford even a second hand stanley. Then I saw a video on a brand new stanley #4 and saw all the things that needed doing just to make that thing work. I am so glad I never bought a new stanley. A couple of years ago, a friend who does house clearances gave me a box of 4 Stanley's, all #4's probably 1950’s vintage. They'd been in a shed whose roof had collapsed some 3 years previous, so "a little rust" was expected. I managed to get all 4 working well proving to myself that the 1950’s jobs may not have heenan their best, but were still pretty good and a damn sight better than the "new" stuff they try and pass of as "hand planes".
