Humans have encroached on rheir habitat so, rhey are hungry and just trying to survive like we all are! No FOMO please (fear of missing out), Renée, there´s enough for everyone to dig at this flea market ! 😉 Awesome finds, by the way. 2:45 "Bibliothek der Unterhaltung und des Wissens" (Library of Entertainment and Knowledge) was a very popular book series back in the late 19th and early 20th century. The Honeymoon album was a pretty neat one, good choice. My choice would have also been the "Battle of the Bulge" book, depending on the author. Keep it up, and have a great weekend ! 🌄Greets from GER, U.
@PaperandMoose Жыл бұрын
I didn't even notice the Battle of the Bulge book until I was editing. Crazy how things can be right in front of you & not notice them at all! On a side note, I started translating the typed German letters that I received in the most recent mail video and while my method of translating might not be the quickest, I find that I am remembering more words and can understand some sentences before they translated. Perhaps you could assist in one question - the writer commented on the radio playing old & new hits and followed that with: "und der Reichskanzler steigt vor meinen Augen auf." The letter was dated in March 1947... Hard to imagine that she would be referring to Hitler, considering she was writing to a Holocaust survivor. Could she have been referring to the buildings and/or the "old" Chancellery, or of the "old" Germany before the war? I've only translated about 5 letters so far & this is the only reference made concerning the war (though calling it a reference might be a stretch). Her way of writing that phrase had me picturing her sitting in front of a radio, an older German song playing, and her mind filled with memories. So many questions arose from such a small fragment of a sentence!
@fareast_de Жыл бұрын
@@PaperandMoose Interesting ! Probably this lady didn´t refer to Admiral Doenitz because he ruled such a short time but to "Him". There were a lot of "keep up songs" in Germany during the war like "Ich weiss, es wird einmal ein Wunder geschehen" or "Davon geht die Welt nicht unter", interpreted by the Swedish singer Zarah Leander. I assume that the lady heard a song like this and remembered this time and also the Reichskanzler (though most folks called him Fuehrer). For me this sounds very obvious because these memories were very fresh just two years after the war ended. Anyways, you got fantastic material for a huge "History Behind The Paper" episode or even a series, can´t wait to hear more about it !

Good day for ephemera. Get the sewing machine set up yet? You haven't introduced us viewers to it yet, only hear tales of it's existence 😉. Did you figure out what the award/medal was from? 👍👍
@PaperandMoose Жыл бұрын
Shhh… I think most have forgotten about that sewing machine 😬 My current night project is working on translating the German letters I received in the most recent mail video. I’m actually succeeding in translating & understanding, so it has been a journey back to 1947 in Berlin. I feel that my success with the sewing machine would be much less! The medal was a “common” WWII service medal, still collected even though not rare & even better that it was still in its’ case!

Hi! My favorite was the yearbook with the loose photos and particularly the one of the man leaning on his early '50s Plymouth, I think. The Honeymoon album should be a good read. It looks they were at some place like my folks went to in 1966.- "Honeymoon Haven" in the Poconos. Heart-shaped beds :). I'm sure the trapping items have a strong collector market. I was a little anxious that there might be one of those spring-loaded metal leg traps at the bottom - set! The video was a great diversion, looking over your shoulder! Have a great Friday afternoon & weekend! (P.S. if you every run across vintage stock car photos in an album meant for you, they are certainly a hot commodity around here in NC and would turn a good profit most anywhere in the South, I would think. But this time they were meant or someone else).
@PaperandMoose Жыл бұрын
I think so many of our parents/grandparents went to one of those “resorts” with the heart shaped beds & the champagne glass bathtubs! Can’t forget the mirrored ceiling either! I believe such one resort in the Poconos is abandoned & now fenced in from trespassers, though a few have gotten in & have made videos on their exploration. I would love to do some of that “urban exploration”, but my problem would be leaving things behind such as paperwork or desks filled with old files. I could only think of the history that is just sitting there! We shall see what the Tote Man has this upcoming flea market day. I missed the last flea market day as I was on a family vacation in Disney, so looking forward to getting back to the flea. Any fun plans for the weekend? Projects, cookouts, sales?

@@PaperandMoose Just back from a LeAnne Morgan show (comedian). The Estate Sale scene looks grim for the weekend. I have been to so many the I am starting to recognize different floor plans from different time periods - very few truly old houses down here. The dog and I are batching it for a week. Sunday we have a road trip to Charlotte to pick up a diamond-in--the-rough trunk I found. I have some things to pack & list for eBay and some others to fix & list on CL / MarketPlace. A lot of house chores. But the dog and I will also probably sit around in our boxers and wife beaters and watch some TV. He likes Suits. Look forward to the next Tote Man (or faux Tote Man) video. That trapping paper was a pretty good find , probably worth more then you think When I was a kid in high school I trapped foxes and raccoons for their pelts, fur prices were high then (1970s) and I did good , made much more then my friends that had newspaper routes I checked my traps on the way to school Used the money I made to buy my first pistol (Ruger .22 auto) and shotgun Savage double barrel 20 gauge which I still have Used to live trap raccoons and sell them to dog trainers too. I didn’t get much at my Friday flea market today, I watched the kids as my girlfriend shopped Have good hopes for tomorrow
