I watch you often and I admire your humbleness. So many of the folks that buy the storage units are very ego focused. You on the other hand approach every unit with excitement and appreciate. I saw your video when you purchased the Civil War diaries and wanted to share with you how impressed I am with the way you are in such awe at the history you discovered and how you have so much respect for the writings of the soldiers. I am a 73 yr. old women raised in the beautiful northern Virginia area. My relatives fought in that war and are buried in Front Royal V A. Of course we were from the Rebel side but no matter of that now. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about how and why you value "Paper" . You will be blessed many times as you read the words on the paper. Regards, Jan PS sorry for such a long message!

Thank you for the kind words! I have been working on the Civil War diaries and this soldier wrote down so much information in a few sentences, from names of people to places, that I have so much more to research and learn! Some people enjoy storage unit videos while some do not like them & so I just appreciate those that watch and enjoy. The storage units allow me to put aside some time to do my historical research that I truly love.
@staffpr27 күн бұрын
There is a historical association called the United Daughters of the Confederacy that you could contact for research and I would think there is most likely one for the Union side as well. Hope that helps you.

Never mind, nonetheless we saw a pretty neat neighborhood with lots of beautiful old houses. And perhaps you will get the chance to find one of numerous drones somewhere, don´t give up ! 😁 So, what do you think about this weird NY/ NJ phenomenon ? Here´s my theory: these are government drones searching the trail of some radioactive stuff imported via a US harbour. Just my 2 cents. No chance to find some valuable trash over here, because opening trash bags or cans is prohibited, and additionally my hood isn´t an overwhelming wealthy one. It has become a joke on the local Facebook pages and some groups have banned any posts/discussions about the drones because they feel it has been excessive. I have no idea what to think about them, but it feels like we are just waiting for the next "big thing" to appear and then all will be forgotten about the drones. Too bad the drones can't drop a bag or two of "trash treasures" to look through!

Thanks for showing the lovely houses in your area. I think trash has been thin because people did more before the weather got cold. Also Facebook has made people try to sell rather than to discard. I know my friends are. Thanks again.

I really enjoy the storage units, though I know that many have strong feelings about them. Now you know how it is here. People haven't changed their habits. I was told to sell my extra vinyl records and even when they were free no one would take them so I tossed the albums and used the inner and cover for shipping/packing. Same with books. Whatever the library can't take becomes packing and people get upset.
@ImaLeshLushnIcantgetmyPhil28 күн бұрын
Can’t believe no one would take them for free! I would’ve gladly paid the shipping for vinyl in good condition! You couldn’t donate them either? Some of the inserts and paper covering the albums are worth some serious money. Hope you look into it before using as packaging again.
@PaperandMoose28 күн бұрын
Can't sell it, can't give it away for free... crazy! There are a few "Little Libraries" in surrounding towns where people will leave books for people to take. Great idea to see what your library can use. Do they have any "rules" about donations and do they accept only certain genres, new/old?

Trash picking for me has always been luck rather than strategy. The only times I deliberately go out are on bulky pickup day ... and when the college students are coming in during August, or leaving during May. If you want to try opening all the trash cans on a block - you could get yourself a shopping cart, some grimy clothes, and go incognito. If people bother you, you can talk to yourself or yell or something. But I bet you won't find much. Rotten hot dogs maybe. When I was in my teens, the town where I lived declared that all trash on the curb was town property. So it was technically illegal to filch. Not that it stopped us. It's great that you show this once in a while because I know people like it, but for 95% of people I bet it's the same. Our landfill here has a swap station where you can drop off or take things that are too good to be buried - if your landfill has that, maybe it's a different source to look at. I tell you what though, we all are a breed apart. It's not everyone who gets glum when they come home from digging in other people's trash and believe they have nothing to show for it :). Have a great Monday - only 8 more trash-picking days until Christmas!
@PaperandMoose28 күн бұрын
The local dump has dumpsters that the drop-offs go into. People actually pay to drop their scrap off at the dump! If they would just leave it out on the curb, if allowed, they could save themselves some money. I have seen a few things, one was an antique hutch, tossed into the dumpster - ugh. I don't think there is a way to buy anything that was tossed in and if it's not at the top of the pile, it's a bit of a fall down into the dumpster. That's one way to dumpster dive! Can't believe that Christmas is next week & I still have my cards to send out! I'm thinking perhaps I'll make them "Happy New Year!" cards instead :0)

It's one of those things where you hang upside-down, and it relieves back pain. It's really in very good condition; not mint, but really very good shape. It's not a 'Teeter'- brand but still a good solid well made unit. Again, very little use, and definitely has some value left in it. It folds up to move or store. I'll meet you more than halfway, on Rt. 78, if you're interested. I doubt it would fit in your car, but easily in T.S.'s van. Let me know if you're interested! Bob H.
