I have a thought. To get the groups of logs down faster. A homemade Crane with a block and tackle tie the logs together and gently lower them down. Before you take all the logs down I'd get tags and a staple gun and label them all before disassembly. This way you can concentrate on the disassembly.

Exactly what I was looking for! Next summer my husband and I hope to find a small vintage cabin to dismantle and move to our property and use as his writing cabin. Lots of old cabins here in Wyoming and, because it's so dry, they're usually in reasonable shape despite the years.

Good luck! It takes time, but it will be rewarding once it's done. We still have a long way to go, but we're working toward it with a clear goal in mind. 😁🙌 thanks for watching .

So sorry to hear about the vertigo! I had it when I was a teen with an inner ear infection. I had to fly with it and I went deaf for a while too. It was horrible! I could stand up straight! "You're done!" is right!!! Please take care of yourselves!!! Yes, Russ, you need a handy kid/boy you can train to do hard work! I find the logs so interesting the way they are made and go together. Sourcing the materials from your land will be an earth-friendly challenge! Your videos are so well made I always enjoy watching them! Be well!

This is coming along great. Piece by piece. I know you mentioned something about not adding the 2nd floor. Again, just a suggestion here, put in a small loft area for a reading nook. Gotta be great viewing area up there. Bookshelves/chair built with repurposed wood 💕 folding ladder... If you still have that door from the bathroom, consider using it for an outhouse door. 🤔😊 Excited for the next video

We will rebuild second floor , I said maybe no bathroom . But that’s maybe 😁 thanks for suggestion .

I’ve had it one time. Totally disabling. My mom had it for years then they established a treatment where you lay down and they roll you from side to side. It adjusts the crystals in your ear. It was an answer to prayer.

I hope your vertigo spells feel better soon ! I deal with it too.. started when I was age 12 or so, back then it lasted 12 hours and included vomiting ( I still wonderif it's a type of seizure ..like "abdominal epilepsy" that I was dealing with ..I still have bad spells of vertigo that come on randomly. I had to apply for SSI as several health issues left me unable to work ( not saying all this to be sad, there's a point ) SSI first denied me and although my doctors even wrote about my severe spells of vertigo, SSI (whoever decided my case) wrote back a list of jobs they believe I can do, including climbing ladders and scaffolding ! I got a lawyer and got approved ( thank God) but I am still besides myself that they actually wrote that !...lol

Thank you so much for the well wishes! I’m sorry to hear you’ve been dealing with vertigo for so long-it sounds incredibly challenging, especially with those 12-hour spells and everything else you’ve gone through. It’s great that you were able to get a lawyer and finally get the approval you deserved. Wishing you the best, and thanks again for your support-it means a lot!

@@thezaytsevs Welcome, God bless you ! Thanks, It has been rough, teh 12 hours spells were hell and terrifying. it's not a constant, but never know when it can happen. I did find that sometimes I can make it stop or lessen if I stare at one small point and try really hard to focus on it .. maybe that could help you too. Anyways, feel better soon !

You're still at this :D nice my man. You know, in Sweden we probably have thousands and thousands of abandoned cabins, cottage houses from 1700s 1800s. I dont know how they manage to stand. Probably people renting them then being abandoned times at times. You got a great idea there going on 😊

It's very sad, but I think that cabin is beyond repair, after seeing the condition of those logs.
@thezaytsevs2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your concern. We understand how it might seem that way, especially with some of the logs in rough shape. However, we’re carefully assessing each one and replacing only what’s absolutely necessary to preserve as much of the original structure as we can. It’s definitely a challenge, but we’re hopeful about restoring it to its former glory!

I suspect that over the last 300 years those logs shrank dramatically. I'm sure when they built that cabin, the logs were probably touching one on top of another. So when you replace what you need, be sure to keep in mind parts of your walls are going change from drying out. Some are dry already and then you're putting in fresh logs. So you're going to have unevenness. I watched one KZbin video years ago that was doing the same thing. And they injected resin into the logs. One it stopped the rotting process and bugs aren't an issue. I can't remember what the resin was, but they taped up the logs really good and dumped it in through the end. It penetrator the loose fibers and everything. To me it looked like plastic resin. But it didn't add hardly any weight to the log and being it's been dry for 300 years there wasn't any shrinking.
@thezaytsevs2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the thoughtful input! You’re absolutely right-the logs have likely shrunk over the centuries, and that’s something we’re definitely keeping in mind. We’re planning to be extra careful when replacing the logs to account for the differences between dry and fresh ones. The resin injection method you mentioned sounds really interesting, especially for preserving the integrity of older logs. We’ll look into it as a possible option to prevent rot and bug issues. Appreciate the tip and the insight-it’s always great to hear about different techniques!

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We completely understand how dismantling a historic structure like this can feel upsetting. However, our goal is to preserve this log cabin by carefully numbering each log so it can be reassembled and restored in the near future. We’re working to ensure its legacy is preserved for generations to come, rather than letting it deteriorate beyond repair. Appreciate your passion for history, and we’re doing our best to honor it!

The chinking is such a wide gap, it doesn't matter what log goes where. Just stack by diameter. Using a window frame to hold a wall up?
