if you leave tarps on the wood they will rot if you make a temperie shelter around it so wind can blow around the wood with out it getting wet so it wont rot sort of like really old barns they left gaps between the boards so the hey and other items didnt rot or get mold

It will take longer than you think, I live in New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina happened in Aug 23, 2005 and there are still many areas that have not been repaired and most likely never will be.
