Cap’n those timbers look better than they did in person. If you can get them sprayed to kill the insects and dried to stop the rot, they should be perfectly serviceable! Dad joke: What’s the difference between a Jock and a Rock? If you give a Jock a wedgie he gets mad. If you give one to a Rock, it cracks up. Please accept my apologies?? Keep chipping away bud, you’re getting there!

Nice job partially removing the sandstone wall to make room to get thru past it! Glad that you have so many maple trees so you can make maple syrup again this year.👍 Love the suggestion of a sugar shack and a separate cooking area--Smart idea! Great video!

I love that you picked up on the sounds so early! Let the tool work!! Go! Captain GO! One hint... Drill holes 8" apart. Use the feather n wedge every other hole. That'll give a fracture line something to follow where the stress has already been relieved. Might take a bit longer.

were gonna need another 4000 of those hand chiseled squared blocks to finish the foundation... (can you imagine) have you thought about milling those logs in half so you would have a clean face on the inside and the hand cut on the outside of the cabin.. (plus it doubles the amount of wood you have to build with) pressure wash it.. seal it and call it good for another 100 years

If your trying to save for boulders, make as big as possible. What if you drilled a few holes close together as a weak point and if you have limited wedges, you could put in every other hole. I heard someone made a shape of a guitar out of a stone. So anything is possible I guess. You got this, great job Mike. Praying mantis: oh what's that? Oh hi Mike. Lol

Hey, Mike! It's taking shape! I built a stone wall in the fall of 19 from stone in the corner of one of my woods. Some of the stone were 10 ft x 10 ft x 3 ft. I needed to cut them down to usable size blocks. I rented a giant air compressor and a 90 pound jack hammer with a 6 inch chisel blade. In no time at all, I had the blocks cut into stones I could use to build with. Wish I could remember what the rental fee was! Wasn't all that much. Lee

Looks like you have quite a bit of sandstone you could quarry that you could probably make a cabin out of the sandstone by making it into blocks and using a little mortar and you have a cabin that would last a millennium depending on what you make your roof out of. In regards to where you gonna boil up the syrup you can put a roof over it just leave at least three sides open so that the steam can be dispersed readily and not be such a factor. Once you were done making your syrup you could even set up movable walls that could be not much more than a frame and tarp to protect your equipment from the elements for the rest of the year.

Nice job on the stone. I have limited experience with the wedges. When I was taught to use them I was told to start at one end and tap or strike the wedges once trying to get the same force on each wedge as you progressed down the line. When you get to the end go back to the first one and start over until the break occurs. All that being said I was dealing with a different type of stone and it had no fractures to start with. Just a thought sir, you were pretty successful with it, BTW, i hand drilled my holes with a hammer and chisel bit, it takes awhile. As I understand it the Romans developed this method, I may be wrong as I have not researched it. Thanks for the ride along sir.

Medium duty, electric jackhammer less than $300 on Amazon…I’m sure you could rent them as well. A small generator is all you need, and you’d have that rock demo’d in a few hours. You could likely shape the pieces to the sizes you want with the jackhammer, skipping the chiseling task ahead. Great vid Cap…thanks for sharing!

Hey. No awkward outtake today. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Seems like you have a rock (sandstone) solid plan on moving forward with you family camp/sugar shack. It’s unfortunate the hand hewn logs weren’t better stored from the beginning. Whoever it was had the best of intentions, especially since the tagged each log for location to reassemble the original log building. Hopefully you are able to build as much as you hope but if not it won’t be terrible if you need to build up a little higher with dimensional lumber and maybe cover that with some slabs from a local sawmill.
