No, it can never be like nothing ever happened, it can only look like nothing ever happened. It occurs to me that I've spent a lifetime trying to look like nothing ever happened. But it did happen, yes it did. Good luck with this challenge, Susan. That was terrible news about the flood and losing everything ! Very happy to hear that things are being taken care of by the city. It seems like when things like this happen, it forces us to slow down, redirect your usual thinking and realize how lucky we are to have what we have. I know that you are already there..still appreciating everything, despite the issues. Try to save any Christmas ornaments as you can...Maybe some will be ok after they dry? I love your home..you have done a marvelous job with style. My heart goes out to you for such a loss, but you are a tough cookie 🍪 and things will settle down and normalize. God speed to you and Desi. ❤

Hello Susan, I’m sorry you are going through this very difficult time in your life. I went through a fire in 2010. I had a lot of things that I had accumulated through the years. Lost most of my things due to water damage from the firemen putting out the fire. It was a five alarm apartment fire no one was hurt or injured which was a miracle of ALMIGHTY GOD. Happened Labor Day weekend. The longest weekend of my life. I missed my clothes the most out of everything. I know the lesson THE LORD taught me was I needed to simplify my life. Less things and more HIM. HE is my contentment and joy, not the things of this life. If it had not been for THE LORD JESUS I would not have been able to endure it. I do not know how people go through this life without THE LORD JESUS. Praying for you that you will find peace and contentment and that THE LORD will give you rest. 🙏🙏🙏

Susan, I can totally relate to loosing Christmas ornaments from a flood I lived on a lake and we had rain rain rain and more rain to the point we were flooded and the lake water came up almost 6 feet and flooded all my stuff. Im 70 years old soon to be 71 in February. I started collecting Christmas ornaments when I was 16 years old when I first got married and I had over 500 ornaments that were all keepsakes and memories from over the years. I had collected ornaments for 54 years. It literally broke my heart. All my decorations were destroyed. I had a Santa Clause collection also and 3 Christmas trees, so so many memories that mother nature stold from me, but guess what I'm still here and wasn't hurt and my 2 dachshunds weren't hurt either. I was evacuated for about 10 days. I had to go live in a motel for 10 days with 2 dachshunds, and its not easy to find a motel to rent you a room with 2 doxies. I had no power, no heat, nothing. Best wishes and prayers to you and Desi. At least you and Desi are safe and well and the main part of your home was spared and and your utility company is paying for most of it. We had flood insurance but they raised our insurance because I made a claim, I mean why do we pay for insurance and it was an act of mother nature and it wasn't our fault but they penalize you by raising your insurance premiums. We have to have insurance but insurance companies are a legal way to steal from hard working people. Hope you and Desi have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Love and hugs from Missouri PS I wanted to Send Prayers and love to all the families from Florida and the Carolinas and I think parts of Georgia and anywhere else that was devastated by the hurricanes. May God watch over you and bless you all.

Years ago, I suffered a 7 home landslide on my property. It has never been repaired because no one would take responsibility for the damage that was done. I still live here but my life changed drastically. My property holds no value and I went through ten years of bankruptcy because of it. Yes, it never goes away and I live with this daily. Susan, count your blessings as it will be restored. Material items and a part of your life have been ruined by water. But the memories are forever. You can rebuild that cellar and take steps to make it even better. As you have said, ♥you are taking steps to make sure this never happens again. You wonder why Lord has this happened to me. Life is a test as how we handle problems and do we put our full trust in our Lord to see us through it all. You and Dezi are going forward even in the midst of this troubling time. ♥ Please every one take time each day to pray and to seek our Lord. Our nation is suffering and we are about to go through more than we can ever imagine. Life is tough, but it is still good and only you can handle your daily challenges. God bless.

Your heart has been broken many times Susan. That's why you are so kind. Loving yourself and Being of service to others is what I have found brings me genuine fulfillment. Susan, I know what you are feeling. I am living it too. My home was flooded by Helene. Then Milton tore up the outside. The flood water is toxic, basically sewer water and can cause serious health issues. My home is unlivable so I am basically homeless. My house has been gutted, floors walls and all appliances are piled at the curb. I’ve cried until I can’t cry anymore. I am single and alone. The adjuster said with all the red tape I am looking at 18 months of dealing with rebuilding. I lost my beautiful Christmas trees but was able to save decorations because they were stored up high. There are no words to describe the feelings so I know exactly how you feel. It’s great that you have the city taking care of your home and replacing everything. Just like nothing happened!! Good luck sweet friend!

I was also thinking of the devastation caused by Helene. I have watched so many videos on the suffering people are going through. Every disaster is devastating. To have help is what is needed. I hear it has been lacking with the Helene and Milton losses. I hope you have a save, warm, comfortable place to stay. I hear many are living in tents in North Carolina. It just is not right what happened to all of you. May assistance come asap for all of you in such dire need. What a blessing that Susan received immediate help. I too think she should be put up in a hotel until her house is truly livable. My heart goes out to all of you - so heartbreaking!

Hope your basement is all dried out now, and good as new! I am so very sorry you had to experience a flooded basement. In September, the tenant above us, his water heater malfunctioned. Water came flowing down through the walls, light fixtures, etc. My blow dryer was soaked & ruined. Still haven't replaced it. Our carpet was flooded. And for about 2 weeks, we had those roaring blow dryers going 24/7. Ugh! That was maddening. Thankfully, things finally dried out. And we got a free carpet shampoo by the landlord. This video resonates with me. I've been in my home for 19 years, 63 now, a single mom of now a 22 year old. Last year my whole water and Septic system failed. I had no running water for the entire summer..the hottest on record. I hauled water from local camp grounds every week, bought refill gallons of water from the grocery store for consuming and cooking. Collected rain water to flush the toilet until I could get a new well and then a new septic system. Used a bathroom bucket system outside to not put to much water in the septic, had to get it pumped out 4 times before the new system was put in. It was a huge and overwhelming experience, but I didn't give up. I called and talked with people who could help me. Many wonderful contractors and agencies who provided zero interest financing, emergency service. It was the hardest of times, but I was so blessed with all the people involved who worked so hard to get my house back in running order. You pull up your boot straps, and do everything you can. I love my home, on 1 1/2 acres in Wisconsin. My little space on this earth I found 19 years ago. Your videos inspire me. I'm a thrift store gal also, striving to make my home and property beautiful on a budget. Thank you, God bless you.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I live in a 720 square foot home that sits on a slab. Two Christmases ago, my whole house flooded from a burst pipe. When l came home several days after Christmas and opened my door, 23000 gallons of water came rushing out. I think l went into shock. Because of the frigid temps, which we normally don’t get in my part of Illinois, so many people went through the same thing. Couldn’t move back for 3 months, but thankfully I was able to stay at my daughter’s. Unfortunately the insurance company didn’t cover the costs of everything so my small savings I had for retirement is gone and l have credit card debt again and am still trying to replace what I lost, BUT God has provided what l need through this whole nightmare. I’m blessed that l still have a home where so many aren’t that fortunate right now. It’s ok to cry about what happened and what you lost. I pray everything works out. Sending you and Desi so much love and hugs!

It's like when everything I had burned up, pets & all. I went to work & everything was OK, by noon I had nothing. My boss & his friends gave me money, to the point I had to tell them "I have had enough, I don't need more". "This is the time in my life I learned to love "used" stores and items! I ended up with more & better things than I had before. I learned material things don't matter. I miss my pets I lost in the fire to this day some 20 year later! You are so brave & a fighter & can survive anything! My prayers go out to you & Desi. You both survived! And bless the City you live in for having a plan to take care of this! Bless you & Desi, you are OK! Love to you both....Judie

Hello to the community and to Susan and Desi. I am sorry I did not see this video until today Tuesday. It brought so much to mind! But I must say that I appreciate so much your fortitude and the fortitude of all those others who have related stories of disaster. I used to live in a house with my two daughters when they were young, and whenever there was a hurricane in the Gulf if Mexico, even though I was way up in the northwestern Catskills, my rugged basement would flood. The groundwater was so clean I never had an odor but I used to have to rent rug dryers and burn yhe wood stove for days and it was just so so much work! I was a single working mother then One time I was out of the area and when I found out it flooded from a neighbor I just cried and cried and my dad felt so bad that he could not come with me back upstate New York to handle the disaster. And I handled it! It wasn't easy. I don't think my attitude was as wonderful as yours, Susan. I was more in survival mode. But of course your little house is a treasure. When I saw your basement at first when you had your Christmas ornaments down there, I almost commented to make sure they were two feet above the floor. I used to live in a different house near a river and water ruined my furnace and then I installed one that was a number of feed off the floor. But that house was by a river and your house is not so I didn't really think to emphasize that. But I have another idea! What do you think about all of your listeners perhaps contributing a beloved Christmas ornament back to you? You could get a post office box and you don't have to divulge your address. I am sure I have one or two I could send you that are dear to me. I know you'll get a flood of them, no pun intended!, but you could always donate them to the town if there are too many that you receive! I know you put up more than one tree so this might be a nice idea. Leslie, I just loved your photography and sounds in this video. The rustling leaves, the deep wonderful guitar music, and the woodsy intonation of that candle. And of course our Desi.

I lost so much years ago in a basement flood. But it was backed up sewage. Really horrible. The sewage pipes became over time, broken and blocked by tree roots. It was horrible. Glad the city is onto this for you. ❤️

I think this is amazing. How else could you get new things at this point!? Seriously, God's blessings arrive in unusual ways. I hope you really see Him working out amazing blessings as you step through this "upgrade". Letting go of some dearly loved things allow you to grow higher😊
