Recently Vevor sent me their 30L Ultrasonic Cleaner, the first one I've ever used. It's designed for cleaning small, complicated objects like tools, engine parts, jewelry, watches, etc. I ran it through some of the dirtiest stuff in my garage, including an old hand drill, seized-up lock, dirty file, and even a jammed carburetor.
I found it performed really well at removing dirt and grime from tough-to-reach areas. It proved especially helpful with the carburetor. I hate carbs so much that I've been just throwing away my dirty ones and replacing them. Thanks to the Vevor ultrasonic, I can now save more carburetors from the trash!
You can find the Vevor 30L Ultrasonic Cleaner here:

CA site: s.vevor.com/bfQNIT

I have the same small Maglite with the same exact problem. I had some old batteries that had leaked and seized the back cap. A pair of vise grip pliers should make the most of it, but be careful as I wrecked the nice black finish on it. Otherwise, keep up the great content! Thorughly enjoying it!

You can wrap a rubber strip around the torch and clamp the vice grips down onto that. As long as it's not a 'shiney' kinda rubber it grips great and won't absolutely destroy the surface.

Carburetors were a huge improvement over early fuel injection systems. They used sell Carb cleaning kits that included the solvent and a perforated metal basket. You simply put the parts in the basket and put it in the container. Then put on the cover and let it sit overnight.. Gasoline breaks down into a form of Shellac. Carb Cleaner has been sold in every car parts store that I've ever used.

It's not so much bubbles but cavitation, the micro-bubbles will form then collapse with a lot of energy, and that cavitation from collapse is what is cleaning stuff off. A good test is to put a piece of tinfoil that covers the surface area of the liquid (in/touching the liquid fully), then turn it on and see how fast, and how well the holes pattern that form in the tin foil. The faster the holes form the better, and the more evenly spread the holes are the better.

I wouldn't recommend a cleaner that powerful on any circuit boards with surface mount components. I've personally used lower power versions and had it blast components of the board. Suuuuuper helpful to learn that lesson AFTER I put a board that I really needed (and also had zero circuit diagrams for) I used a 300w version then made the mistake of leaving it for a brief phone call... Came back to an assorted collection of components that had fallen off the board... Ahhh that was a 'fun' evening fixing that. 🤔🤦

I use a mason jar in my ultrasonic for small parts, or things that are going to make the water super nasty, the mason jar can stick out of the water and have its own isolated water since the ultrasonic will transfer just fine through the glass.

Heh, simple green and purple power are definitely NOT the same thing. Simple green is available in walmart (in the automotive section) and all hardware stores. Purple power softens some paint and is really hard on your skin. Simple green is easier on your hands and doesn't damage paint. One of them (and I don't remember which) will take the black oxide surface off of bolts when used in an ultrasonic cleaner (ask me how I know). If you clean anything with a black oxide finish and you manage not to remove the black oxide entirely, make sure you re-oil it after it's dry, otherwise it will rust like crazy afterwards (again, ask me how I know). Black oxide finish is like anodized aluminum - the surface is porous, and it holds oil (in anodized aluminum, the porous surface is what holds the dye). The ultrasonic cleaner removes all of the oil from all of the pores, and then water gets in there, and your hardware goes from being rust resistant to being ultra rust-prone!

I've got an AAC Element 2 .22 caliber rifle suppressor and the baffles are made of 17-4 stainless steel. Anyone who knows about rimfire suppressors, they get incredibly caked with carbon in pretty short order because .22lr ammunition is pretty dirty and is very difficult to clean. Amazing method I've found that works on even the worst caked on carbon is to fill my ultrasonic cleaner with water, fill a small container with distilled vinegar and place the baffles in, then toss in the ultrasonic water bath. After about ten minutes, the baffles come out looking almost brand new. Also have really good luck with purple power in my ultarsonic. I've heard of some people who clean a lot of carbs using Chemdip carb cleaner in their ultrasonic. You're probably not supposed to do that, but looks like works well for them lol.

Oh I should add I’ve got no idea what cats would think of it. But I just saw cats can hear up to 80kHz and I think most ultrasonic cleaners are below 60kHz. My understanding of the effects of US on people is that it still effects the bones in the ear but the nerves filter it out (you can still get hearing loss from it) but it’s no more dangerous than any other sound. May just bug the cats.

Be careful with purple power near paint and aluminum Its not as forgiving as the Simple Green. Simple Green has been assumed to contain way less Sodium Hydroxide and is still corrosive to aluminum but way less then purple power. Great Video!
@gorak9000
@gorak9000 6 ай бұрын
Purple power is also really hard on your skin - wear gloves or you end up with super dry skin, and the top layer may even flake off. Simple green won't do much to your skin even exposed to the concentrate. You can also get pink sodium hydroxide based degreasers that are lower concentration NaOH, and ok for skin contact. But the purple stuff (of any brand I've tried) is definitely "gloves required". One of them (simple green and purple degreaser), and I don't remember which now, takes black oxide coating off of stuff when used in an ultrasonic. I cleaned some black oxide socket head cap screws n an ultrasonic, some in a jar of purple degreaser, and some in a jar of simple green, and one of them came out with almost no black finish anymore. The bolts from both solutions are super prone to rusting too unless they're re-oiled immediately after - the ultrasonic removes all the oil from the pores of the black oxide finish, and water replaces it. What makes black oxide finish corrosion resistant is actually the oil in the pores of the finish.

Carburators aren't that hard to clean. You can see some youtube video's with @ Mustie1. He's has cleaned alot of carburators in he's ultrasonic cleaner. He has a experience in disassambly and most importent assambly those carburators. The diafram seems to be the biggest issue as most of the time, they are ruined due to cracks in the materie.

Carburetors eh? For me it's transmissions. In Electronics you use high proof alcohol, for Auto Parts I imagine some other form of solvent perhaps m e k

Based on your recent videos seems warmer winters in Minnesota than when I lived there 60 years ago. I see you are now wearing warmer duds, winter has arrived, doncha know. There is a youtube website, James Condon, about small engine repair. He is very methodical and meticulous, does not argue with haters, runs no skits nor shit-idiot background music. Nearly every video involves a carb repair or rebuild, you may pick something up. He lives in the NE, where they have nasty summer storms but recently very little snow. I started using non-ethanol gas in my fleet of small engines, 2/4 stroke, about 6 years ago and I no longer have carb problems. Start right up in the spring and the gas has does not go flat over the Ohio winters. Costs about 40 cents more per gallon, and you have to look around for it.

Hey do you ever think you're gonna get a flipper zero? If you're doing all this now, imagine the endless possibilities with a flipper zero. Also, big fan and I have some old tech. I'd rather ship it to someone who appreciates it than someone who's gonna scrap it. If you want it just reply and I'll give you my email or something. Plz keep up the good work and keep making content. This is so cool. Also, you got something my dad and I can watch together. Usually we don't spend much time together because we're so busy but we watch your channel and he's just as fascinated as I am so seriously, keep it up

I did get a Flipper but didn't get much out of the stock firmware. I need to try it again with one of the alternate builds people have made, I just haven't had time. I've also heard YT doesn't like that sort of thing.
