My mom had a mom skunk and her babirs under her deck one season. They only came out at night and ate all the slugs and spider crickets, so they turned out to be lovely neighbors for a month or so before they moved on. Pretty non-nuissance animals!

I grew up in the country side and I came across lot of skunks, they are super friendly if you act natural around them and don't pay too much attention. They would just pass by me as I took my walks. Came across 4 or 5 five babies once, they were adorable 🥰

I had a pet skunk, Jake, when it was still legal! Those kits are adorable! A couple kits look like “hooded” skunks, they have one wide white strip rather than 2. My Jake was a hooded skunk. They actually like us, why they make ‘homes’ under our porches etc. They’re very nearsighted, can’t see us well so they feel threatened if we move too fast and spray. They twist their body’s into a U shape when they spray and never miss! I had a Mom and her kits living under a house I rented for months. I didn’t bother her, she never sprayed! When her kits were old enough they all moved. She just wanted a place a bit isolated to have and raise her baby’s.

Sal it’s illegal now because they can be such high carriers of rabies. This was back in the 70’s you could still buy one for a pet. Their scent sacs were either removed or tied off. He was a cool little guy but today I’m a firm believer that wild should stay wild 😊

I agree, that's the 2nd time they've missed a baby or two. I think what happened is they figured mom was ok with her last check, but they were probably too close for her to feel comfortable enough to go and retrieve the others. But yeah, they should be 100 thorough when checking for more babies. Cause sometimes like in this case mom might be too scared to go get the rest.

I have found peanutbutter works real well to lure the moms out without upsetting them by scaring them out , less chance they will spray and if you tuck the tail between their legs when you are holding them this will stop the little ones from spaying and yes it does work by pinching the sent glands closed , at least it always worked for me

Skunks really are adorable. Thank you for letting us know what ended up being the result! Ive had a skunk come right up to me at the campground while we were at threw picnic table. Felt somthing on my leg but didn't pay any attention because i thought it was just my mom moving her feet, then out of the corner of my eye i see somthing moving and the same time my girl friend was like "umm..." lol so i looked an here's this skunk climbing into the bench part of the table next to me from underneath lol like hey what you got up here that smells good lol... it was eating potato chips right out of my hand like you'd hand them to a dog. It was amazing. I didn't touch it because i didn't want to push it, but i probably could have. We gave him a mix of different stuff on a plate over to the edge of our camp site and he came back a few other times to see us.

What a cool story. I think they realize and can tell when people have a good heart. My hubby was soaking in our spa late one night and heard a soft noise. He looked down and a skunk was casually walking by sniffing along the way. Hubby sat perfectly still and watched the skunk waddle off until he was far enough away. At that point, who even cares if they spray. It would be a hassle but worth it in a way. Luckily no spray was involved and our dog and cats were inside. He was a bold little night critter.

The many times I've had to free birds caught in string, fishing line (the worst) it really stresses me to see animals in distress, I can't let them know I just want to help...I hate having too much empathy. Awwww So Cute ! I actually have an abundance of skunks , raccoons and opossums living around me here in the Bronx ... I often find them on my back porch looking for a handout ! Lol

since the mother had already checked to make sure that she hadn't left any behind, did she actually come back to get the others? I wish we could have seen that.

I just found your program I love it and how careful you are not to stress or hurt the animals, also the info you give the homeowners like don’t use cushions where animals have been due to diseases and bacteria.
