Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 American epic war film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Robert Rodat. Set during the Invasion of Normandy in World War II, the film is known for its graphic portrayal of war, especially its depiction of the Omaha Beach assault during the Normandy landings. The film follows United States Army Rangers Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) and his squad (Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns, Barry Pepper, Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, Adam Goldberg, and Jeremy Davies) as they search for a paratrooper, Private first class James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon), the last surviving brother of four, the three other brothers having been killed in action. The film was a co-production between DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Amblin Entertainment, and Mutual Film Company. DreamWorks distributed the film in North America while Paramount released the film internationally.

After all this time two things still piss me off...1 seeing that gutless pog coward Cpl Upham bitch out while his battle gets run through. 2- No Currahee ever needed Ranger Batt to step in and rescue them. Still chokes me up when Ryan refuses to leave his 506th Brothers. Wonder if researching for this film inspired Hanks to produce Band of Brothers.

Cool video. Perennial youth Matt Damon is 51! OMG! Well, I aged, too, you know. I was 6 when the movie came out and now I'm 97! Giovanni Ribisi was just 24!?!? Wow. He was the baby of the cast. I hated it when he died in the film. His character was such a caring soul. I'll have to look again, but did you include the guy that played der Wehrmachtssoldat that Upham kills at the end? Vengence is mine sayeth the Upham. 🤣🤣🤣

I watched it with my brother (in his late 40s or early 50s then) ex-Army helo pilot. The whole time we sat in the theater, I watched him more than the movie because he was afraid he'd have a PTSD episode which set me on edge. I checked on him repeatedly, asking how he was doing. He got through it okay though.
