amazing, this marketing genius was able to make a good living of talking about a 45 degree angle, nothing wrong with it just.....crazy

Love your concepts, Tony! I was a Kali instructor and when I would be teaching I wouldn’t teach footwork at the beginning if at all. The person would usually ask , why’ aren’t you teaching me footwork? I’d say because I’m pretty sure I could teach you all the Kali footwork from the beginning and I’m almost positive it would most likely not help you under stress because you’d use your natural instincts anyway. They would say well I wanna move like this or that, you know, like the higher level guys and I’d say I’m pretty sure under stress they’d do more of what is natural to them and it probably would look nothing like what you see when they’re doing drills. I would explain it like, I wanna see how you move first, Naturally then we can tweak a few things. Like maybe don’t cross your legs or back up on an angle instead of going straight back. Of course there’s high level fighters that do master footwork, but for the average person I think it does more harm , sometimes to load there brain up with things that they probably won’t be capable of doing under stress. I know that this is probably basic info to you, but that’s why I love your approach to surviving so much...

Totally agree. I teach kickboxing and the students always want to know technical things like how to throw a punch, a kick, or move their feet, but I just tell them it wouldn't work under stress and teach them how to straighten their arms while I take their money every month.

Austin Henry ok, fair enough, but I’m sure you’re an accomplished fighter. and you’ve either fought or you probably spar a lot. Don’t know how much you know about Kali, but most of the masters or experts that I’ve been around don’t do enough sparring or fighting. It’s really a bunch of drills that many of the things don’t transfer to fighting plus I never charged anyone for lessons. I do eventually teach footwork if they stick around. I’m talking more about my situation. Plus I’m talking about knives or blunt objects. Maybe I approached the situation wrong in your eyes, but I think a lot of weapons training that currently exists is dangerous if you aren’t honest with people about what percentage of the stuff will actually work for the novice. There’s other more basic stuff I try to show them. I do appreciate and respect your comment though 👍. Of course footwork is important in all forms of self defense, but it takes a lot of commitment and common sense to use it under stress. If a kickboxer or boxer for example wanted to learn some weapons defense there would probably only be a need to show them what would maybe be potentially dangerous to use against a knife, but they already know footwork. Does that make more sense? I think it’s more important to be well rounded and actually test things out because a lot of what’s being taught just won’t work when it comes to actually defending against any weapon...

How many times have you seen a double axe handle strike from a full mount in BJJ or MMA? Ground and pound is more effective...
