Saving Saves that Randomly Got Bad

Everyone that plays Football Manager eventually runs into this feeling: you are chugging along, you’ve watched some FM tutorials, some tips and tricks, and your club is cooking FM like a Saturday barbecue… only to start losing out of nowhere. There is seemingly nothing you can do on Football Manager to turn your form around and what you did previously doesn’t work at all.
On FM this can happen after a new season starts, in can happen in the middle, it can happen at the end, and it will always ruin your day. What you have to do to fix this Football Manager challenge is first diagnose what is causing the poor run of form in the first place, because it is not always a poor bout of form necessarily. A few of the saves in this SYS give us a good chance to get you right.

I'm not sure we can keep taking Zealand's 'buy wonderkids, win the CL' advice seriously considering the last two Twitch saves he's been buying wonderkids and not winning the CL. Absolutely need to buy experienced, seasoned winners if you want to win the CL.

he is correct in the sense that you could sign some seasoned winners towards the tail end of their career but they more than likely won't want to join due to the reputation of the league

Of course it would be great to sign a bunch of experienced winners in their prime. But that's impossible unless you're very rich, very high reputation, or, realistically, both. When taking a team up the leagues, your best option is to sign high-potential young players who will either improve to world-class level as time goes on, or will increase in value and can be sold for a profit that can then be reinvested into the club. Also, it's happened in real life. Porto, Ajax, Dortmund and Marseille have all won it that way.

It's a good advice which he himself is implementing kinda wrong. He is eager to sell every wonderkid the moment he gets a good offer. He doesn't really give time for players to establish some kind of core of the team, its all fluid in there. If you buy wonderkids and keep them at your club you'll eventually win CL if you are doing good tacticwise. Buying players in their prime is suboptimal, since it's just expensive. I was doing save in Poland last year and it took 10 seasons of continuously being in the Champions league and reselling cheap wonderkids for a profit before I could splash 40+ mil on a single player

Need a good combination. On my southhampton save i have a lot of what started as wonderkids, but i also have brought in players like Zaniolo, Kheprem Thuram and Anguissa on free transfers and they are what really makes the squad whole.

You should make a series explaining what kind of players do you need for different tactics. For example if you wanted to play 4-3-3 Liverpool stile, what kind of a forward, midfielders I want, etc. I know you mention these things all the time, but a systematic videos would be great. What he means by "Serie a is poor competition" is that Serie a doesn't provide that much cash. For example the winner of serie a gets at max 60 million while in comparision a bpl promoted team gets over 100m

@S G no need to remove from the shortlist so long as you don't have the box ticked. Removing assignments doesn't work if that's ticked as they just get reassigned too. Obviously keeping shortlists trim and organised is a good plan as noone wants to scroll all that!

I had a bochum save where in the 1st season, I was 15th when winter break comes and the xG table suggests I should be 4th, now that is properly screwed. Still the second half of the season went better and we finished 7th(with the xG table still suggesting 4th overall but I'm very pleased with that already)

8:50 Annecdotally I can confirm scouting really young players in senior national teams can do wonders. In my current save with Sigma Olomouc in Czechia my star striker is Guatemalan and is absolutely at that world class level and I signed him at the age of 18 for $90,000 when I noticed he had 15 caps for Guatemala already. I also have a solid Salvadorian defensive midfield prospect who I signed at the age of 19 who had 13 caps for El Salvador when I bought him for $50,000 and though I don't think he'll quite hit that world beating quality he's still a solid player who I can probably sell to a top 5 league team for ~$20,000,000.

The scouting budgets is just a bit broken in this years game, If your in debt like the first save it wont let you scout anyone as your out of budget but if you put them in your shortlist it will scout an unlimited amount of players. They really need to fix it so once you in debt the scouts stop scouting every player in your shortlist until you have the budget to afford it again.

Suggestion: Try a save, starting in the 6th tier in England, simulate to the end of a season, and apply to all League Newbies. Work only with Players from the Youth. They will go through the fire for you. ( after a while 😁) Training is mainly Body for start. Endurance? might be the English word for Ausdauer. Sorry, not my mother language, me's a Bavarian. 😉 Less losing in 6 th tier, if they have the second breath. My system? 442 Diamond Wide LM DM OM RM Pass game short Crosses Dribbles fast shots Take the Grey out players for start. Contract them - immediate from 75 € a week to 55 € a week over 3, better 5 years. Look at the wages. Long contracts, no clauses. Unsoldable Sold a player for 560k. Value 280 k. VnS Champions with Poole, FM 21 Mobile back then. It is quite late here, hope I have been able to help you a little. System bores you with CMs for start, and often Wingers, but you could easier "create' your" own system. Read the Training Description for start for a position. System will often try to get you to 4 2 3 1. It is like a 4 5 1, less defensive, less Remis, less 0-0. Keeper, no sweeper Keeper needs Saving High Balls Throw off (?) Kick Off Reflexes Good night! 💤

I don't agree Z, high back line and mid block is one of the most consistent defenses in this game. Probably the most consistent way to have a high back line. The problem would be that they didn't put "step up more", because you want to compress more and press the other team in that reduced space. Also you need defenders that can pull it off, intelligent and fast ones. They would need to see if they have what's needed.

Big issue with that first save is that SI have made scouting and how it works completely opaque. For years it's been guesswork and competing theories about nations, competitions, regions and various other things. Even allowing the AI to do it gives you a mess with all your scouts watching the same games. As they do with training plans.

For that Dinamo Zagreb save you need to raise your Croatian 1. division status in the EU so you can attack CL so lone your 3* team to your rivals and help them go far away in EL and EC. When this happens for 3-4 seasons you can go for CL before that semis of CL is the best you can get.

"Keep scout reports up to date" is something I hate being on by default. For a tiny amount of high importance targets .. sure. But for most of the players i am just keeping tabs on them. Stupid FM.

Make a second shortlist with only the top guys and set that to auto-renew. Each shortlist is separately checked. Learned this the hard way when my scouts racked up 600k of debt scouting my end of contract trials list

Is it true that you have to up the tempo when the opponent is harder? I always thought you put it lower, so your team slows down the play and you wouldn't overturn it easily. Maybe i'm getting it wrong.

Yes. Tempo dictate how fast the ball goes from your own box to opponent box. For example, you are on counter attack and your player has 2 choices: risky, over the top pass to your striker; or safe, diagonal pass to your winger. With high tempo he is more likely to do the risky pass, while with low tempo low tempo he is more likely to do the safe pass

The 50NXG about 3 or 4 lists in is great you find the best youth players about to leave their clubs or run down their contracts hit these clubs with compo and the players with decent ratings I found about 15 yth players all less than 7months on pltheir contracts cost me about 10M for these players intotal and some were already 4.5 str rated

Best part is you can basically hit that whole list for buttons as the best players are always heading for their contracts ending and comp is the minimum payment needed most being 1-3M

Post on the old Zealand Reddit, you'll get help. Also, you can advertise for staff roles. I generally don't worry about money, just stick with the boards budgets, sell a few players if you need money now.
