I actually wanted to spend a lot more time there. Unfortunately, my timing was off. It was a Friday, and they closed for most of the afternoon for Friday prayers. But I did manage to spend a fair bit of time simply staring into the tanks. There was a lot more going on at this marine centre than I showed in this video. I'm posting a longer version in a couple of days, and that video probably gives a better idea of the variety of tanks and rooms and species that they have on display. There is even an entire room of tanks dedicated to nothing but various species of coral. It's not on the level of the big aquariums you find around the world in major cities. But for a free facility in a small town, it is impressive and well worth visiting, I thought.

I don't have a huge amount of experience scuba diving and snorkelling. But I'll never forget the first time I stuck my head under the water in an ocean with a mask on. I grew up in the interior of Canada and had never been in the ocean before that. And what I saw when I went snorkelling the first time kind of blew my mind. I had no idea what it was like until then.

wow.. what a great day out in PD. Since you've been there awhile, glad you finally got to see more of it and captured it on camera.

I'd had plans to drop by this fish center for a while. I just never got around to it. I'm very glad I finally summoned the energy to make the trip. It was well wroth it.

i used to snorkelling in Mataking island in Sabah, and it was so magical.. the coral there is so healthy and the group of barracudas passing by is just surreal

Sounds amazing. I had never heard of Mataking Island till now. It looks beautiful. Like an island paradise. And I see on Google Maps that they have a turtle hatchery there as well.

I think the intro for this video spun out of control a bit and ended up being way too long. But by the time I finished it, I didn't have the energy to go back and try to change it. 🤪 I'm enjoying making these intros. I've done three or four of them so far, and I'm getting faster and more efficient at putting them together. I hope to keep making them. They can make even an ordinary video feel a bit more special and exciting.

If you don't want to add anything to your nasi lemak, ask for "nasi lemak biasa" (rice, boiled egg, sambal, cucumber, peanuts).

Thanks for the tip. I think I was just confused at this place because every other time I've had Nasi Lemak, there was no need to talk about it. There was just one dish - nasi lemak. And they brought it to you complete. There were no options or choices to be made about what kind of chicken or anything like that. So I thought it was a set meal. But at this place, it seemed like you could make your own, and I wasn't sure what to do. 🤪

@@PlanetDoug I could understand what you were saying. Some places sell it as a complete meal, such as in kopitiams or restaurants, but others sell it as a buffet with add-ons. However, you can always decline what they suggest and request the basic nasi lemak (nasi lemak biasa). For me, the simplicity of nasi lemak is preferable; adding too many add-ons is too much for me. Also, by voiding excessive side dishes can save you a lot of money. My usual add on is only sunny side up egg.

I thought of that, too. It could be what I call the "Planet Doug Effect." It often happens that the one thing I want in a store or on a restaurant menu is the one thing that isn't available. 🙂
