For Basic Infantry Divisions Adding the anti-tank helps a bit, but artillery is what wins battles defensively. I would never sacrifice extra soft attack for anti-armor. Now the one tank is an interesting strategy because it creates armor to slow breakthrough. I like that, but I’d rather go for soft attack over all of this. Artillery wins wars. 30 combat width is one way to slowly transition over to 40, as jumping to 40 from 20 is hard, so I like that strategy he had. Overall, I’d say you weren’t totally wrecked at the start of this save.

so the V AI meta tends to be 'work to 20 width' as it gives you enough to overcome the AI. mix and matching units (infantry and Heavy TD) is actually a really good idea, but you need to be careful with it due to fuel and supply useage. your templates with the H.TD gave the infantry some hardness, and piercing, whilst giving the majority of divisions you'll fight a hard time if they don't have piercing of their own. it tends to be 'work to the speed of the slowest division', so having infantry with a Heavy is oddly enough how you should do it, with motorised and mechanised going with mediums and lights.

I’ve had a similar thing happen, Germans pushed in the south hard and from Kiev to the south it was a corridor all the way to the northern border with Afghanistan. They starved out the supply and I eventually cut off the corridor and went West.

So, Just saying that the heavy tank destroyers in yonder division template added armor, hvy attack, and piercing as well as a variety of other bonuses. The major thing is that armor though, as it's applied to the entire division, so it take considerably less damage. It's a strat, putting one heavy tank/tank destroyer in a division to improve the armor rating.

In my French "La Resistance" playthrough with the restored French Empire under Napoleon VI, I did a similar flanking maneuver that Alex tried to do through the Baltics, but through central Spain when I was at war with Communist Iberia (united under Portugal) breaking the back of their armies and encircling 1 MILLION men trapped in eastern Spain. Sure I could've went straight to Lisbon, but I wanted to see that many of their armed forces fall before I did

Adding a single tank to your infantry templates gives *all* companies in that division the armour bonus, so adding a single heavy tank to your template will decrease damage to the division from units without hard attack/piercing massively edit: and tank destroyers in particular add a bunch of breakthrough for when the enemy is entrenched

Bryan Jean Ramirez it’s almost always banned in multiplayer games but the space marines division is 13 infantry, 4 artillery, and 1 heavy tank destroyer. Plus engineers, support artillery, and a recon company. The AI almost never has enough AT to take out the heavy tank destroyer, so mediums are really vulnerable to it. I’m not sure if minor nations could deploy them since they are 40 width and take a lot of manpower and equipment but it’s worth a try.

Bryan Jean Ramirez as a minor nation especially in South America and other areas where supply is bad, it would be best to use the 7 infantry, 2 artillery, with support artillery, engineers, and recon companies. They do pretty good in bad supply areas and all minor nations will crumble against them. Against the US or any nation that has 40 width units will be impossible to defeat though. Maybe after taking over South America and having more resources/military factories you could incorporate 40 width medium tank or space marine devisions.

What I like to do with Heavy Tanks is make a separate 40 width Infantry template, take out some of the less important things to save production, slap in 2 - 4 heavy tanks and then either train or convert some divisions to that. Basically it's a breakthrough division and personally I don't like putting heavy tanks in tank divisions as they slow them down too much. Keep the infantry tanks with the infantry I say.

Heavy tank infantry is I think still banned in most multiplayer games. As the armor counts for each infantry division having armor. So yes thos infantry can probably pierce/hold against tigers. But its mostly useless in sp from my experience.

The logic behind putting tanks in your infantry is because it gives armor to every battalion and makes it possible for your enemies to have to use anti tank guns to take down basic infantry

Mixing templates like that is good if you know what you are doing, in this case those aren't that good and especially not as the Soviet Union, a 20 combat witdth spam with Lvl. 2 Heavy Tanks division is what wins you the game. The templates he made focused entirely on piercing the german tanks. Which they aren't able to do after a upgraded PzIV either way.

Here's what you produce as USSR: 7 inf 2 arty infantry divisions (I would say go: AT, signal, recon, engineers, logistics) (inf have 2 width and arty have 3 so the division has 20 width overall - most terrain comes in multiples of 20, so 20 width is best) Heavy/super heavy tanks only (your tungsten is better spent on arty and there's no other use for Chromium unless you're building carriers - which you're not) (10 tanks, 10 motorised - 40 width - they're slow but they will roll over everything) All the fighters, just light fighters or heavy fighters pick one but nothing else, just fighters. Enough trucks for support companies and tanks - don't bother with motorised divisions - it can be fun/useful to micro half a dozen in the Spanish civil war or china but once you're actually at war just get rid of them as they use up valuable supply that could be going to tank divisions. Convoys. That is all. You should have production of everything you need set up by 1940/41 - don't touch it after that. You should be able to see all of your production on one screen and it should all be at near 100% efficient. Do this and losing on the first 4 difficulties as the USSR on historic AI is virtually impossible no matter how bad the Allies do. Slowly give up land in the Baltics, and eastern Poland in exchange for manpower and the odd encirclement and by 44/45 Germany should usually be completely out of manpower.
