Thanks for the tips! I’m asian and we eat the sweet potato leaves. I tried planting different kinds of sweet potatoes and the orange sweet potato leaves is the best for cooking. I think the trick to growing sweet potatoes is not to water them so much. I have a chinese friend who has a farm. They served their harvest in their buffet restaurant which I enjoyed. This year she told me that they had a good harvest of sweet potatoes from the drought. So maybe the lack of water made the roots grow more looking for water. This year I planted sweet potato in August after my 3 months vacation. Although winter is coming, I planted anyway because the leaves are also nutritious. I freeze the leaves for the winter soups. I also planted late the green long beans, also called snake beans or yard long beans. They grow like crazy and I harvest every other day. They are abundant and I am freezing them for winter soups too. 😊

Good for you about the sweet potatoes. I mean even though it might have been a low crop that's great that you were able to grow them. I'm sure you'll grow more next year

I believe you can eat healthy and inexpensively by choosing the right kinds of foods and avoiding the processed ones. Your soup looks delicious and above all, heathy. There is a bountiful of inexpensive and nutritional foods to choose from that strengthen us physically and mentally. Home cooking from scratch is prime for me, because I know what basic ingredients I’m putting into my meal preparation. Thanks for sharing Bonita. Happy holidays. 🌟

Thumbs up video! I can’t grow celery at all, and my sweet potatoes are either decent or pathetic. This year was decent. I enjoy hearing about the jobs you pick up and seeing your frugal recipes. Thank you!

I stuffed some orange bells with dirty rice dressing for a meal today. My son and wife were here in Louisiana from New Mexico. The dirty rice is his wife’s favorite dish. We had ribs and my canned mixture of lima and white beans. Everyone was full.

Well, you grew more sweet potatoes than I did = and yours look great. They are dense and filling, all that matters. The soup looks really yummy and yes, very nutritious. We eat way too much meat nowadays, more than we need. Holidays can be highly difficult to navigate - your suggestions are great.

Would a thick rubber mat under your feet help your back pain when you are standing in the kitchen preparing food? My daughter found one on Amazon and it really helps with back pain from standing too long. Also, I am glad you kept the skin on your sweet potatoes, it really adds to their nutrition. I just discovered Japanese purple sweet potatoes. A lot of nutrition for pennies!

Yum. Those potatoes sound wonderful! I don’t know about the mat but it’s worth a try. Thank you!

Love the celery! We eat mostly meatless meals, both due to health concerns and cost. We do eat small amounts of chicken and fish. Did you know the leaves from your sweet potato plants are edible? Use them however you would use other kinds of greens. 🙂 Recipes are easy to find online.

Hello Bonita, it looks delicious ! But beware. Most of the vitamins, it seems, disappear from 120 degrees celsius
@PenniestoDollars2 ай бұрын
I left on the skins, which should help and since they were fresh, the vitamins should be stronger. I have to cook a sweet potato. I can’t eat it raw lol.

Its shocking the price of eating out. Every time we have to do that all I can think is "we could eat for a week on the bill for this one meal". Yup I do that to with our accounts. I have everything on on notify. Every transaction comes with a notification to my phone and email. ROFL I have tried to grow sweet potatoes too. Everyone is like "oh they are easy and you will get a ton" I got like 2 hahahaha. I made them into brownies. Love what you did with yours. My family is plant based/whole food plant based. I hear that same thing all the time "but what about vitamins, minerals, protein". Ya its all covered! Still alive! hahaha. Nothing saves on the budget than not having to buy meat and dairy LOL Anyways thank you for sharing your tips! Have a lovely rest of your weekend.
