Nice, Jason. It's interesting how you manage to get the maximum yield out of each log. Was there two mills feeding the edger? Bill
@nicholssawmillandmoreАй бұрын
Thanks. Yes a timberking bandmill was also feeding edger.

Have always wondered the reason for sawing such large slabs off from the log when it seems to be a 1x4 or at best a 1x3 could be sawn from one
@nicholssawmillandmoreАй бұрын
Several answers I guess. First we try not to but sometimes if we back off enough for a 1 inch bd then the bd may not have enough face and the slab may be in many pieces which can get stuck on rollers and both slow production down. Also on pine the bds have minimal value. We sell the chips from slabs to paper mills as clean chips or fuel chips. Thanks for asking.

Good morning Jason, I would assume the profit/loss margin is very close, as with any manufacturing, and the largest percentage is made or lost at the mill's sawyer. I've noticed you being the only sawyer. Are you, and is business down currently? Is it hard to keep sawyers when you have the business to keep one so you can tend to other important owner duties? Nice video
@nicholssawmillandmoreАй бұрын
The margin is close. Yes I'm the only sawyer. Used to have one but since he left I really haven't tried to train someone.

Maybe I missed this in earlier vids, but why end the log with two beam size pieces instead of cutting them to 5/4 or some other board size? BTW you run that mill well! 😊
@nicholssawmillandmoreАй бұрын
Those last 2 pieces are more valuable than bds in certain species of wood and it can also be decided to do that if the grade of log is a low quality. Plus more can be sawn in a day that way. Thanks!

nice sawing , your top dog on your #4 block is stuck in.
@nicholssawmillandmoreАй бұрын
Thanks Mark! Yes there seems to always be one stuck because of sap buildup. If I don't scrape/clean them and oil them every day that's what happens. Do you have that problem.

I believe the pallet company rips them into stringers for the bottom of pallets
