hello. I am starting to build a mill house for my Lucas. I was curious about yours. Are you able to push your millhead indoors at night. how would you have built it differently now that you are using it?

Everything thing can be broken down and stored in the shed, except the rails. Most of the year the mill is set up with the carriage covered with a canvas tarp. If I could decide on a permanent home for it I would build a shed to cover the mill when it's set up. Currently it's easier to move the mill to the logs, so it's never parked in the same place for long

Has no one else noticed the sad face in the end of that log?

Very nice. What size mill do you have? 8-30?

About to buy one, do you ever regret not getting the 10-30. Curious as to what were the factors that made you choose the 8 over the 10

I don't regret buying the 8-30. the wood I use for framing isn't bigger than 8". The exception is something like stair stringers, in that case, I can cut from the other side to make a few. The 2" gain for making 1" boards wasn't worth the extra cost.

What model is your mill? Rough cost to set it up the way you have it with slabber?
@FYMM692 жыл бұрын
I have an 8-30 on it’s way including the slabbing attachment. 2k shipping, $1700USD slabbing att, all in, 25k USD

I have the 8-30, no slabber, and extensions. With shipping to Oregon from Baileys was right at $20k.

How often do you sharpen the teeth on the blade?
@krisk474 жыл бұрын
I sharpen the circular blade about every 200-400 bf. I have cut 700bf before, it will start to cut slower and take longer to sharpen. It also depends on how dirty the bark is. I sharpen the slabber as needed. Just like a chainsaw if i have to work hard to get it to cut i swap out chains or sharpen.

@@krisk47 Thanks. Ours was leaving the boards not smooth...I was wondering where it was the wood or the blade. (almost like fur on the board - don't know how better to describe it).
@krisk474 жыл бұрын
@@travelingkaspersworld4096 it could be the tree species dictating how smooth the cut is. I've milled some balsam poplar, butternut , poplar that had similar "fuzzy" results

@@krisk47 Many thanks. Our log arch is going for an early test run tomorrow. It isn't finished. We need to see what the logs "want" from us...then continue welding.

Merry Christmas sir! That was a cool way to cut a cant larger than what the saw will do with out double cutting. Thanks for showing how to do it. I hope to get my saw in the spring. Got lots of beetle killed trees in my neck of the woods gonna make some lumber from them, better than firewood! Take care and GOD bless you and yours

What is the thickness of the curf cut on the saw blade ? The slabber ?
@FYMM692 жыл бұрын
8” blade is 3/16” Kerf and why I didn’t get the 10” because is 1/4”. Not sure about the slabber ??
