For the same reason you listen to any non-acedemic radio station in America they play a select set of songs that fit their narrative. Which is a group of artist that are contracted to the corporate machine that produces the albums and songs and owns all the stations under their umbrella. You will hear the same set of songs in the same order going to work and a different set of songs in the same order going home, every damn day, BORING ! They do this because 90% of the people on the planet are robotic sheep marching to their drum beat, chiching $$$$$$$ Listen to College stations that play music randomly in multiple genre's, escape the blur of conformity.

For people who don't like this song and think it's too pop-it's only due to the arrangement. Sawyer hasn't "sold out" or changed his approach to his music. On tour he is as genuine, unaffected, and pure in his music as anyone could be. If you get the chance to see him live, do it. Upcoming Aug/Sept shows in New Orleans, Birmingham, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, Atlanta, Nashville, Asheville NC.

+Trilogy Only the instrumentation on the studio recording is pop. The lyrics are not. This is not how Sawyer performs the song live. Frank is right, if all pop music sounded like Sawyer's then the music scene would be in much better shape, quality wise. Sawyer's songs have depth. I like this upbeat, catchy version, although I love the live acoustic version even more and I see how the instrumentation on this one can get a little distracting, because it draws attention away from the lyrics, which is where Sawyer shines. I do understand what the label was doing though, in releasing this song as the first single and produced/performed in this way- they were trying to create a song that sounded a little more mainstream to help draw in new fans. So long as Sawyer continues to write his own music and doesn't regularly compromise his style in studio recordings (which he won't because that's not who he is- see other songs on EP for evidence), he will only get better.

Sawyer has an old soul & wise beyond his almost 17 years! Have you listened to the acoustic version of this song? When he does this song during a show, there is nothing "pop" about it! Sawyer is not a "pop" singer nor will he ever be!! He has been dedicated to the music he writes, the music he listens to since he was very young. The TakeItAll video is slightly more "pop" sounding. However, this was the first song he released, and it is more mainstream, catches people's attention:). Sawyer knows what he wants, he's very particular, and he won't be influenced by what other people unless it's reasonable. He will not be a "pop" singer!! I’ve saw him play in person twice and he was amazing each time. Not only that but being able to meet him each time, he’s so nice in person and such a kind soul. I absolutely love him and his music! My grandma first got me into his music and I’ve been absolutely obsessed since. She has every album he has on cd lol and we both have merch from both of his concerts. I wish he would tour again to Michigan so this time I can surprise my grandma with tickets to his concert! Hopefully he will again one day❤️

Sawyer has the likability, humbleness & staying power so many others lack, not to overlook his melodic effortless voice (which has finally settled), beautiful guitar playing and the pure light in his eyes. Sawyer's songwriting skills are incredibly haunting and gut wretching. He easily transports the listener to another time & place with his powerful insight & compassion for others. He has the profound ability to feel the emotions he puts on paper using his creative mind and tender heart. This video did an excellent job of portraying a tragic yet beautiful love story conveying the message penned by Sawyer that true love is so powerful it can "take it all" and heal anyone's pain and it never completely dies even after the person one loves is gone, because "it's hard to let go" & memories will "call out (your) name" which is interesting because Sawyer himself has become that loved sort of "healer" for many of his fans, inspiring & uplifting a large portion through his music and captivating personality. So true. Sawyer wrote or co-wrote all the songs on A Good Storm album. The producers made it more pop sounding than Sawyer's style. He since went independent to have complete creative control and wrote and produced all the songs on Hide Your Ghost album. Check it out. You're right. The current-sounding arrangement was to get broader radio play, but he sings this song, which he co-wrote, in a more folk or folk/rock style in live performances. In fact, Sawyer often re-arranges his songs on the spot in live performances. He's a pretty amazing songwriter and musician for his age.

I know, it's ridiculous. I have an easier theory though, please no one be offended, but I think it's his hair and style. I don't think this is the best song he's ever written but it's catchy and easy and the like/dislike ratio is absurd. nobody with an ear and a heart can dislike his voice. I'm half suspecting some old hater that didn't want him to win is trolling.

I hope the looks aren't a part of it. He looks like a perfectly normal teenager and I hope people aren't that shallow. But yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking when I said he's getting haters for being on the rise (that the people who didn't want him to win are still bitter and feel the need to visit his videos just so they can dislike). Sawyer definitely got a lot of hate as the frontrunner, more than usual it seems, and his haters seemed just as dedicated as his fans. They can't be happy to see Sawyer doing so well. Like you though, I'll never understand how anyone can dislike Sawyer or his music. It's just so authentic, even when it's a more pop-ified version like this song.

I took a little note about a week ago because I still found it weird that is has so many dislikes. It gained like 1k thumbs up and only 30 or so dislikes. That's not even close to the ratio that's shown here.

The dislikes are because of the change of style. He was originally a phenomenal folk to folk rock singer. Many are afraid they may be making him into a pop artist. That may be okay if it introduces him to a larger audience, but his original style is a once in a generation level. This song is great and his talent stunning. I enjoyed listening it. For many of us anything but his voice and his guitar almost violates his voice and cheapens his abilities. Yes, he's that good.

Watch Sawyer blow up!!! I can't wait to hear his full album of original songs :) Just saw the track list for Jordan Smith's debut album and it looks like it's more than half made up of cover songs. Doubt that'll get him very far in the long run. So glad Sawyer is setting himself up as a true and viable artist in the music industry :)

Shame The Voice did not put some effort promoting this kid. He was terrific on The Voice but his voice has evolved much even since then. Sawyer is a dead set star. I hope more find and appreciate his brilliance.

I've read that on most of those shows, it's almost better to just come in like 3rd or 4th. They sign a contract when they start that if they win, they are obligated to sign a contract. People think the winner gets to just field all kinds of offers. Instead, there's one record company that gets a monopoly and has the rights to the best one. And once that happens, they call the shots. I wouldn't be surprised if he's shelved for a couple years then makes it big in a few years

I think this arrangement was a compromise with the label that wanted something current sounding. As Taemi T said, Sawyer's pure, raw sound is on the album.
