Absolutely! His voice brings out so much emotion I find myself tearing up sometimes when he sings. The music he writes is beautiful and haunting. So far beyond his years. I'm lucky enough to live about an hour away from his family farm and I've seen him perform 4 times (so far!). He is unchanged by all of the success. I can't wait for him to record another CD. "A Good Storm" is fabulous -- the product of the record deal he got when winning The Voice. Every song was penned by Sawyer, a huge win for Sawyer and his fans.

I am 70 years old and grew up with the evolution of rock and roll as well as the that of country to country rock. I was always amazed with the songs and sounds of Bob Dylan and Arlo Guthrie. My generation is getting old now but when I first heard Sawyer on FOX AND FRIENDS I WAS TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY WITH HIS VOICE AND SONGS. It is a rebirth for me and reinstalled my faith in the emerging sounds of the 2000's. Yes there are a lot of very good groups , bands and single artist but Sawyer to me is the new Dylan and Guthrie of this time. Thank God there is still someone very different, very soul soothing and very genuine. I wish him nothing but the best and I am sure he will continue to be himself.
@zenithj38157 жыл бұрын
At age 14 Sawyer sang at an open mic at Caffe Lena, the oldest continuously running coffee house in the US. Dylan and Arlo Guthrie also cut their teeth there in the early 60's. You might enjoy youtube video "Where the Music Never Dies" by Caffe Lena. If you haven't heard it yet, check out Sawyer's album "A Good Storm" and look for upcoming album, "Hide Your Ghost."

Have you heard his original music or seen him live? He says he hasn't necessarily experienced the things he writes about in his songs, but tries to understand what it would feel like. Before playing some of the more serious songs he sometimes closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, as if putting himself in the right mind frame for the song. Here he is singing one that he says was inspired by his experience of feeling angry and out of place when he went from the farm to Hollywood for the show. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4vaq6N5isiapNU

It's partly the nature of the music business. He got a one album contract with Republic when he won The Voice, but it seems the deal doesn't include promotion. Most of the winners don't even get a full album out of it for various reasons. Sawyer got an EP, LP (A Good Storm) and music video (Take It All), but had issues with how the label did things, sometimes without his knowledge. He is now independent and entirely wrote and produced Hide Your Ghost album and is working on Flowers for You LP. This song will be on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIjNlHariJaSiNU

There is such emotion in his voice, authentic, simple, beautiful. No phony emoting, tricks, or show biz vanity. It is so moving. As Kay (below) so beautifully says, Sawyer sings from his soul in purity and power. He taps into the truth. Linda Dahlman Talent plus for sure, but he doesn't play left and right handed. Some selfie videos taken with an i-phone are flipped horizontally (mirror image) which makes him appear to play left handed. His favorite guitar is a cutaway design, which was made for a right-handed player. To play left handed he would need a leftie guitar, or would have to reverse-string a non cutaway guitar.

@@keepcalmbuddy1025 Which is a song recorded by The Stanley Brothers/Ralph Stanley, who also recorded Man of Constant Sorrow. It would've been a near perfect song for him.

Sawyer sings to my heart, why isn't he selling a million albums
@nghianguyenai14793 жыл бұрын
Because he doesn't want to sign with any big records company but want to develop his music on his own.

Respectfully, there are supernatural voices capable of stratospheric gymnastics & wonder, but Sawyer has this pure, soulfulness that cuts through to the truth. I find myself glued to his every word. He's the timeless troubadour of legend...
@zenithj38155 жыл бұрын
Right. Sawyer's voice is mostly untrained, but he's a natural at connecting with the song on an emotional level and conveying that in the way he sings it. And he's much more than a singer, He says he started songwriting as soon as he learned a few chords on guitar. He's written 3 full albums of his originals (Out My Window at age 14, wrote/co-wrote A Good Storm at age 16, produced Hide Your Ghost at age 18) He's set to release his new production this spring, Flowers for You. Here's the title track: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZfIYWNtnsRkjrM

Thanks, I'll check it out. Regardless of training or not, he's a natural and he's got it, in my books!

Thank you so much, I didn't know. He is my favorite all time voice winner. Loved him at the blinds and I am an old lady lol. Amazing voice, better than his hero even. Such tone and feeling. Hope they don't try and dull him down, that is what makes him amazing. Such feeling. So, ty so much again. Have a great day ;)
@neveronetofollowneveroneto63079 жыл бұрын
No problem. He's my favourite too :) And I agree with what you've said. He does sound a little more muted in studio recordings but I think that's just because the raw power in his voice is something that sounds even better live than it does through recording equipment. The songs on the EP still sound really great. Hope you have a great day as well :)

Finally...one of these shows get it right. Unlike the Idol real music fans must watch this. Sawyer is the most original artist I have seen for years. Like many have said in this string I knew he should have won since day one....he or Jacob. both were originals. Congrats Sawyer.

His genre is contemporary folk. Where does that get airplay on radio? The record label that released his album, A Good Storm, tried to push him in a pop direction to reach a wider audience (See youtube official music video of "Take It All"). That wasn't really what Sawyer or fans wanted. Now he's independently written and produced a new LP, Hide Your Ghost, to be released soon (go to pledgemusic.com/sawyerfredericks to pre-order). He's been touring across the US nearly continuously (go to sawyerfredericks dot com for tour info), & had a song "Silent World" used in the Netflix series Longmire. Go to youtube channels Sawyer Fredericks or Newyorker9 for many great videos of live performances. Here's a sample: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4W5aqGEp81nicU

Because they can only sing covers on The Voice, people didn't know that he was already an amazing songwriter. He's made 3 full albums of his songs, 2 of them since winning the show- A Good Storm, and Hide Your Ghost. Check out songs like Stranger, This Fire, 4 Pockets, Not Coming Home, Silent World, Should've Known Better, Red Memories, and Hide Your Ghost. Here's one he wrote at age 12 and sometimes performs on tour: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poXPXmVshZKXm9E

This young man is a storyteller. You don't find these anymore in the music world. Sadly, a lost art. It's not just singing a song or having a story in the lyrics; it's about sitting down and talking to your audience, as they sip their drinks, finding themselves swept into that place where only storytellers can take one. You just don't find that anymore in music. Willie Nelson, whether you care for his music or not, was the epitome of a storyteller. "To all the girls I loved before" isn't just a song, it's a story sung by a storyteller. As Sawyer grows more and more into his gift, I hope many more will appreciate exactly what a musical storyteller is all about. We have one in Sawyer.
