You know in response to the fight I don't really care either way. You can say they tied because it was a double KO and both were out for a whole 10 min count. Or Luffy wins because he walks away from the fight to head for Cacao for the agreed meeting time. Who cares, Katakuri was an excellent antagonist and at least imo he was handled with no harm to his character. And we might see him again so no disrespect to this ending. We're nearing the end of this arc, good chapter.

Just as a small note. Luffy won for one reason and one reason alone. He had a reason to stay up and Katakuri didn’t. Oda doesn’t give a rats ass about what we think of powerscaling and we should all know this by now. What’s important is that the entire chapter was to set up what they needed to get up for. If Luffy didn’t get up, he and his entire crew would likely die. Since you guys are all about logic and things making sense you understand that right? Katakuri fought to keep his image as the perfect child of big mom, but in this very fight his own siblings spat in that image over nothing. You could tell by the end and the way he fought. He wasn’t trying to beat Luffy he just wanted to fight him. He found someone he could respect who also respected him. He knocked Luffy down, and WAITED for him to get up. He didn’t care about his image anymore. So what reason did he have to get up? Luffy has to leave and Katakuri knew it, that’s why he asked if he was coming back. Luffy had a reason to keep standing Katakuri didn’t. If you don’t believe that he didn’t care about his image anymore. Ok tell this, when he was fighting earlier this man slammed his head on the ground so he wouldn’t fall on his back. After hearing Luffy say he’s coming back he’s ok with everything and falls straight onto it

Except for stamina and endurance, there are no other aspects that Luffy is better than Katakuri. Why do all these people ignore or overlooked this fact and quickly say that this is an asspull. In the chapter, back in the Sunny, all his nakama's thought he forgot the time and place and the whole escape plan yada yada, but Luffy CLEARLY remember all of it (Oda clearly indicate this in 3 panel in the page where Katakuri stands up) and honestly the drive to fulfill his promises he made with his crew has made all the difference. Its his will.

My problem about this was, katakuri was introduced as a guy who “trained” his Observation Haki so much he can see a glimpse of the future. But luffy managed to do what he does in just one battle. Bboy Phoenix think of it like this remember when Kizaru said speed is weight and with his light speed physical attacks hurts. Snakeman used his his increasing speed to make his attacks powerful to cause damage. another example is from both sonic the hedgehog and the flash they use their speed to smash through their enemies or deliver a big punch.

I know how Snakeman works, it was shown in the manga it's actually weaker than Boundman (power speaking). Boundman could compete with Strong Mochi but not snakeman, Luffy was not able to go through Katakuri's strong mochi in this form. It was even shown he was injured when in Snakeman his fist collided with Katakuri's fist (who didn't get injured) because Strong Mochi > Snakeman form.

This arc is just to much for me, it's insane!! - All the build up to the tea party, the amount of world building we got. Germa, Underworld brokers, Elbaf etc. - The tea party was just straight up greatness. - Then we had the strawhats holding off a yonkou. - Katakuri vs luffy the best fight in this series. At first, it was a tie. But Luffy got up first and crawled up. Katakuri was still down at that time. Later when Luffy looked up Katakuri was standing in front of him (Luffy got up first and Katakuri got up after Luffy). But Katakuri was at his limit and fell down again coughing blood on his back. Luffy was still up and was the last man standing. Katakuri was overall stronger than Luffy. But his endurance level was way weaker than Luffy. So for me, it was Luffy's victory.

Luffy won due to Strategy ,taking breaks,new form,exploiting established weakness of haki.Katakuri...is portrayed to being superior to Luffy in nearly every aspect.Only base and gear 2nd luffy.....people who don't pay attention failed to realize that katakuri was only above base and g2 luffy but g4 was on par with him...luffy's base only needed to have enough stamina to fight until he could go g4..luffy's newest g4 mode.snakeman is a speed modeso it gave him the advantage he needed to win.katakuri was stressed with base luffy's speed...and this was shown early in the fight...so its not an asspull if later an upgraded luffy is a bit faster

MaxPaynefan1 he's only superior in observation haki (initially) and because of that luffy can't land a hit. But when luffy learnt how to predict movements and able to land hits, luffy got the upper hand. His rubber is superior to mochi. We know that when luffy combines the rubber stretching and armament in gear 4 it is devastating.

Katakuri had tons of moves stronger than Luffy's. Think back to the chapter where he was replicating all of Luffy's attacks but making them better. On top of that he has his spear and is also capable of easily trapping Luffy in mochi (which he never did again). They had been fighting for hours and 90% of the time Luffy was taking massive damage. For him to brush all of that aside and go on to win just doesn't make sense

Here is my thought on the Final Clash: we read manga from right to left, kind of similar to Hebrew & Arabic, right? Let's check out the sequences: 1) In page 7 (Jaiminisbox), at the right panel, we see Luffy's arm stretching toward Katakuri, but the ground is already cracked! So what cracked it unless Luff took a hit (or the impact did it)!! 2) The Mochi-Spiked-Club is still hovering over Luffy's head, 3) On the left panel, Luffy hits Katakuri's stomach, 4) The Club is still hovering over Luffy's head. 5)In the next page, page 8, we read "FWIP" (sound effect) which mean both Luffy and Katakuri retracted their arms; however, the ground just imploded and Luffy fell! What caused the ground to collapse? The only explanation, at least I have, Luffy tanked Katakuri's hit, but the impact cracked the floor and collapsed the floor.

I wouldn't say Luffy tanked Katakuri's hit anymore than saying Katakuri tanked Luffy's. They hit each other at the exact same time, but both of them stood their ground for a few seconds, before succumbing. They both needed 10mins to recover, and afterwards, Luffy had more drive to keep going. Katakuri didn't have the same drive as Luffy to keep fighting. And also by nature, Luffy's attack causes a lot more damage than Katakuri. His hit was faster, smaller surface area, and hit right where you'd get the wind knocked out of you.

So first of all i am no katakuti fanboy. Nevertheless acting stupid and ignoring the original task (beating luffy up as quickly as possible) is obviosly part of the overwhelming plot convenience!!! I do not want to discuss the amount of damage luffy took in this fight we all know it was also exagerating much!!! The fact that pisses me of the most is that snakeman is supposed to be super fast but lacking power otherwise all other gear 4 forms would have been utterly useless. So basicly katakuri took aprox 2-3 hits by snakeman and that was sufficient to beat his ass? That just shows the ambiguous plotconvenince beeing luffy with super endurance and katakuri with endurance like a little bitch... Totally ruind that fight and character...

I'm really happy and sad at the same time. Katakuri was an *AMAZING* character, great development, made him 3 dimensional, not just a 2d fight to get out of totland. I'm so happy we had the experience of Katakuri for the last few months. I'm really sad that this will be the last time we see him for damn near 5-6 years at least. Hats off to you Oda. Hats off.

To all those people crying about the plot convenience, if you look back a few chapters you can see that Katakuri had Luffy lying at his feet multiple times. There was a time when he even yelled: "Raise up straw hat." It was as if he was training Luffy rather than trying to kill him. So, Luffy finally defeated Katakuri because Katakuri repeatedly gave him chances to do so. It is not asspull or just Luffy had to because Luffy is the protagonist, it is because Katakuri respected him and wanted to test him not kill him.

I really hate OP's ass pulls but I seriously do not see this as an ass pull. The main reasons people are calling it one: 1) Luffy endured too much -- He's always been good endurance wise considering he's got a rubber DF, he's tanked a lot in previous arcs and so have characters with less tanky DF's (OR none) that weren't even on the main characters side. Now we had a time skip I'd expect him to be more tanky and he was, that's fine. 2)Katakuri let him win Kata definitely had some oversights where he should of ended it (Such as when he went to eat) But I really can't blame him after learning more about Katakuri, it made sense, but also the self inflicted wound was definitely justified, it fits his character PERFECTLY and it made their damage taken somewhat similar. Not only this but the final blow, luffy hit where Kata wounded himself, that can make a massive difference.

Sawyer I can see you're trying your best to justify the fight but size has nothing to do with it. Luffy in Gear 4th, whether Snake Man or Boud Man, is bigger than Katakuri. And I HIGHLY doubt Oda bothered to research Leopard style martial arts to justify this either. Otherwise it would have been called, Leopard Man.

To be honest, katakuri was untouchable because he can predict the future with his observation haki..not so much because of his strength or devil fruit. That's why katakuri won't let luffy use gear 4 when luffy first tried to use it, because gear 4 is lethal. Luffy got punched so many times because he can't use future observation haki yet... But when he finally learnt it then luffy got the upper hand really.

I think that she erased Sanji memory to protect him from hurt/heartache when he goes back to the strawhats. he makes it clear by the speech he gave to pudding that even though it was a pretty messed up situation they were both in that he still enjoyed getting to actually bond with pudding. Pudding realized just how amazingly forgiving, nice, and caring Sanji is. She most likely doesn't want the guilt of knowing that she may cause sanji heartache or maybe she wants to erase the good memeories of her from Sanji so they wont cause any trouble with their respective pirate crews. maybe it was just a romantic kiss with no mind altering, So many possibilities with oda, amazing writer, really love this chapter. it was awesome to read, so much hype.

Honestly this was the fairest fight with a fair ending Luffy and Katakuri were basically equals Devil Fruit wise Katakuri has stronger haki Luffy has stronger endurance Overall the fight was a fantastic fight a fight about honor and they both ended up respecting each other and the finish was a good especially how Luffy places his hat over Katakuri’s mouth i know all the Katakuri dick riders are gonna be salty but they should’ve know how this is gonna end

This. Akainu one shotted ALL of Whitebeard's commanders with one attack near the end of the war, and that was after Whitebeard wrecked him and dropped him into the sea. He literally recovered in an instance, then one shots all of the commanders, and is back to chasing Luffy like it was nothing.

This fight had so many factors to bring out luffy's victory (time, interference, etc). Katakuri had so many chances to deal major damage (like the time he went to eat sweats because he thought he was done for). I consider this Katakuri's victory since luffy was the first to fall and he only got up once some time passed, but officially it's luffy's.
