Big Mom is from Elbaf, so she is a giant, but she's not as big as the other giants. Maybe she had a birth defect which stunted her giant growth (i.e. dwarfism) and she was ostracized and bullied by the other giants in Elbaf. Once she came into power as a Yonkou, she tried arrange Lola's marriage with a dignitary of Elbaf (king, lord, noble). Each Yonkou has a different way of conquering and gaining power; Big Mom gains power through marriage, and having the entire nation of Elbaf at your disposal would be an attractive way to gain military might and overcome the other Yonkou. This could indicate that Elbaf and the giants have strong ties to the Void Century, and they may even be housing a Road Poneglyph, which would be essential in making Big Mom the Pirate King. Just my thoughts.

I think Big Mom resents giants because I believe that she is a product of the government experimenting on turning people into giants like the kids from Punk Hazard. What if Lola's bride was Blackbeard, and Lola was on good terms with Big Mom up until Marineford? Teach would have thought that it was his in, and that once he got the Yami Yami no mi, he could use the fact that he was in both Big Mom's crew and Whitebeard's crew to take them both down. And, I could see Whitebeard being pretty chill about Teach marrying another Yonko's daughter: it wouldn't really affect his crew because Big Mom could not have forced them to join her crew, but it would have put them on better terms. Theory: The person Lola would of married would of been one of the Celestial Dragons. The Celestial Dragons have been implied to have information regarding something super secretive that only otherwise Doflamingo knew. This information could very likely be an Ancient Weapon, and so by marrying Lola to a Celestial Dragon, Big Mom would not only have the power of the World Government, but also an Ancient Weapon to use against the other Yonkou. Maybe this Celestial Dragon was high up in their rankings (if they even have rankings).
