I saw them in the 70's at Mankato State college during a blizzard......not many people braved the weather but we did and it was a hot show....Dennis Springer was amazing.

I saw them about the same time in St. Louis at a RecPlex ice rink. Little bitty stage on the ice and we sat in the stands. This is back when Danny and Dennis were still in the band and Kenny G. was still playing horn for him. Amazing show. I was hooked after that.

Built my bass playing chops on this album back in the day. I play a Musicman Stingray because of this album! Love it!

Tightest jazz fusion band there ever was and there were plenty at the time of this recording. Smokin album! The whole project from the first to the last track. I don't know why they named it "Water Sign" because that project was pure jazz fusion fire.

Jeff Lorber is a Scorpio. The most intense sign in the Zodiac, and a Water Sign. :-)

I actually saw the group back in 79' or 80' in St. Louis after this albums release. Joe Farrell played on the studio release but didn't make the promo tour. A young 17 or 18yr old reed man named Kenny Gorelick (later known as Kenny G) made the tour and recorded on later albums. He was very nervous since it was his first time on a tour with pros.

I remember being at school and a few of us were into JLF. Later when everyone was into Kenny G, somehow this felt 'ahead' musically with its funky blues riffs.

I purchased this album as a "punch out" at SUNY at Stony Brook's record shop below the Student Union. Heard it on WPLR from 'cross the water - I think it was a review of Toad's Place. Also, there was an audio shop [when those places actually had value add] just below Setauket that used this and Soft Space as some of their reference albums.

I've been digging Jeff since 77 and the current line up of musicians but there was something about this group with Dennis Bradford on drums and Danny Wilson on bass that had that "it . however I knew also would use the guys from the group Pleasure because he came up with those cats in Portland so when Dennis Springer was on this lp it didn't supprise me at all
@johnmcintosh77846 жыл бұрын
Springer should've stayed instead of that G character.

Everyonw was just laid back then straight ahead and sho'nuff funky as Jazz, Rock, Funk, began to take the stage. AWESOME ALBUM. I saw Kenny in person and it was like the debut for Kenny Gorelicks (kenny G.) use of the technique that won him so much fame. Actually found most of Gorelicks music kind of Nauseating. Sanborn had so much more to offer .

no disrespect, but c'mon man... this album came out 1979... there are 10's of thousands of Fusion albums that preceded this; and this is your top-5 fav intro to Jazz Fusion? what about Mahavishnu Orchestra? Sof Machine? haha if you say so.
