Thank you for this video. I am not a repair tech, and I didn't know what order to start regulation. Your video helped me a lot!

Great job Art! You explain the process very well. Many techs are great at repairing, but they can't explain and teach very well at all. You are awesome!

My alto sax's F key needs to be adjusted but it does not have the adjustment screws on the back like your does at 6:13. How do I adjust the key with this kind of sax?

I wish there were more tutorials on the left hand stack adjustment. It seems to be a much more frequent issue in my case.
@SamChaneyProductions Жыл бұрын
Yeah the left hand stack is a little more complicated as it has more interconnected keys that need to close in groups simultaneously

This video is so helpful and informative. I have a request. I realize you are busy and have a new baby so this would just be for future topic idea. But there are so many "cheap" saxophones being bought for new players or people on tight budgets. It seems that a common issue is lower keys not closing. Do you encounter this at your shop? Most of your videos are on quality equipment but how can you make a cheaper sax play better? Also. Many new ones come in colors and lacquer metallic. What can you clean these with? Asking as I bought my niece one of these cheap amazon saxes and want to make it as good as I can for her.

what is the green thing in the b flat key Sir? Is that a bumper? Does it affect the tone?
@TheBrassandWoodwindShop3 жыл бұрын
That is a piece of felt. It keeps the key from hitting metal-on-metal on the keyguard.

Hi! I own a Selmer Paris Super Action 80´s Series II alto sax. I can´t find the screws to regulate the low D, E and F in relation to the F#. Can you help me?
@TheBrassandWoodwindShop3 жыл бұрын
You can go to your local repair shop. They should be able to order them from Allie Supply for you. If that does not work, I may be able to send you some.
@foonzelde Жыл бұрын
I realize I’m replying to an old comment, but the Selmer saxes I’ve played don’t have adjustment screws for the mechanism that Art is seen regulating at 5:10 in this video. Instead you have to fuss with the thickness of the felt or cork between those arms and the bar that closes the F#. I confess I’m a player and not a technician though!

You have described how the keys are to be adjusted but make no mention of the correct key heights. My own experience of wood wind experience of over fifty years, unequivocally has established that there is no acoustically correct key height with the exception of the independent keys. The most important keys just cannot be adjusted correctly as they are coupled. If any one key is set acoustically correct then all the other coupled keys are set incorrectly. Please detail your own personal method of arriving at a compromise method. There are scholarly posts detailing methods of adjusting and balancing and all these amount to just big talk or hot air and \bear no relevance to actually setting compromise key heights. I am looking forward to have you offer your advise or schedule of key height adjustment and thank you kindly. , u

why bend the key instead of just adjusting the adjustment material and screws?
@TheBrassandWoodwindShop3 жыл бұрын
Either will work. Bending the foot of the key can work better in some cases, but not in others. When the keys are out of adjustment, but in regulation, bending the key will keep it in regulation while putting it into adjustment. if you turn a screw, it will put it into adjustment and take it out of regulation.

I came to this video to maybe find out how to use the pad height tool and you just show one and then say it won't be needed because you will already know how far open the pads should be if you've done a few adjustments before. Well, I haven't done any before, so you were no help at all in actually using the tool. Your video made no claims to show how to use this tool. Can you tell me where I might find information that will tell exactly how to use the gauge tool and which holes get which height? I am finding it very hard to find any info on proper use for this tool. Which pads get what height must be a secret no one wants anybody to know.
@TheBrassandWoodwindShop3 жыл бұрын
I got a laugh out of your conclusion that pad height is a deeply held secret. I assure you it is not. I will try to do a video on that tomorrow or the next day.
@TheBrassandWoodwindShop3 жыл бұрын
I just got done editing the video and then I realized that I did it the wrong way! Oops! I will have to redo a few of the clips. I hope to get the video published on Monday.
@willswanderings69123 жыл бұрын
I guess my "conspiracy theory" (Lol) on the secrecy of setting key heights is gaining momentum since you say there is a video in the making yet one has not been produced to date. I may have to call my CIA guy to see what he can find. I know you are probably a very busy person with your chosen profession. I am just having some fun with this. A great day to you sir.

Yes, I am fine. I was planning on re-doing the video then things came up at the shop that had to be taken care of. Also, I have 8 kids and my wife is expecting #9 and she needs a lot of help. Anyway, I will try to get the video done soon, but no promises. I am almost done digging out of the stuff that I had to do at the shop and I am finally getting back to my youtube channel that I have neglected for several days. .
