James Boley I'll tell you why, I will have to grow accustom to the new album, but It's not the whole fuck the world feeling that was and still is. Is A Real Boy. The pure irony in Max's voice in his magnum Opus Album was simply thrilling and nostalgic.

Time. I agree, it lacks that. And that was great. But i think this is a sign of maturing. He's married, and has a kid. He is an adult, and i think this album is about him growing up. This song alone displays. Maybe a track or two will have that irony and attitude we want. Also we dont know what these songs sound like live, he said they may be adapted to guitar parts on the tour. So maybe that will increase how exciting it is

"I hate that dude now that he's married. He's got a baby on the way; poor Sherri. That's not apropos. He's not the wretch we know. Chop his family up so we can feed them to the front row. Spike his fifteenth espresso with drugs so he's convinced it's a manic delusion to know true love. Be 19 with a joint in hand. Never change the band. Never ever be a ...real man." - mic drop

Anything Max does is amazing. The scrutiny hes under for his music is unwarranted. He always puts love into his music. Which most artists nowadays dont care about. Making shallow tunes for the shallow minds. His transformation is completely natural. He grew up and people should accept this. if not your just another fair weather fan. Im happy he can continue to stick around with us to make good music.

I appreciate this so much. This band is the only thing getting me through at the moment. Having struggled with crippling depression and bpd for years I'm heartbroken to hear from this that Max almost feels guilty for not writing songs about drugs and poor mental health. Whether you like the style or not (and I love it as much as the rest of SA's discography) you can't fault him for cleaning up and starting a beautiful family. Thank you, so much, Max. You are my favourite lyricist in the world and if it weren't for you I would never have learned how to deal with my thoughts through writing them out. Being able to have that release has saved my life many a time. I can't wait for you to come back to the UK so I can be at the front holding up my lighter. You guys fucking rule.

+KatieeElmore Agreed. Having someone has creative as Max articulate the complex emotions behind BPD....has helped me cope with it better than therapy has. The viciousness in Max's lyrics have also helped me learn to stand up for myself....having bpd, people tend to stigmatize and take advantage of me.

I remember when this album came out, and I hated it. In hindsight, I most definitely wasn't emotionally and mentally mature to appreciate the growth of Max. I wanted him to be my angsty, angry role model of my youth. Now I'm older, I think back to how bad I thought this album was, gave it a relisten. It's probably my favorite Say Anything record to date. Keep growing, Max. We'll be right there with you.

Ok I definitely have a general idea of how this album's going to sound. I'm liking how Say Anything is one of those bands that have all these songs and as soon as you hear one out of context you can immediately identify what album it's from. It's a sign that they never stick to a formula. Why do what's been done before, you know? Vocally it's very similar to the last album, but musically it's a more drastic change than I was expecting.

Fair weather fans are more insulting to Max. ...Is a Real Boy was an album made when he was suffering. Say Anything hasn't just changed their sound. Max has been changing. For the better. This band isn't about the fans. It's the growth of a man who was weed addled, troubled, and angry. Listen to his lyrics. He's bearing his soul to audiences of ingreatful fans. That's what this song is. It's a fuck you to the fans who diss his new, happier life.

Fuck all those people that think you were only good at the start of your career! Being clean, getting married, a baby...they've transformed your music to something amazing and just as awesome, if not better than day one. Those hipsters don't know anything! Say Anything is a journey through your life and I enjoy every chapter. "How is that worms-eye view? I have grown two broad wings and now I'm above you."

i have absolutely loved every album and every song max has released. i have seen the band 7 times, his solo once, rain across atlanta traffic to meet him, I'm a crazy big fan. but this album is going to take some serious getting used to. i can already tell, I'm not saying i won't like it, because thats impossible, in a world where some of your favorite bands can let you down on certain albums, say anything has NEVER a band like that. i just hope this grows on me quicker. i know when Anarchy came out it wasn't my favorite but then it did. so its just gonna take some time

I love everything the band puts out. I love Perma/Two Tongues and I love anything Max puts his hands on. If you hate his stuff because it doesn't stick to what "you" want then fuck off and keep listening to the same old shit. If the world didn't have some new stuff every once in awhile then everything would be stale like modern rock on the radio. I love that fact that say anything's sound evolves with each album. Great bands do that. Hell the Beatles were known for that. This guy's song writing skills is top notch in my book always. I cant wait to hear his collab with tom.

My god, so much respect for Max Bemis and the featuring artists supporting this awesome dude. He just gave a big fuck you to the people who don't respect change in a project/band. And for the people who can't let go of that nostalgic feeling. I get it, you think that were his best lyrics...and the expression: Tragedy makes great artists/poets ( i think it was ). Well if he still was depressed or sad or angry, he probably wouldn't be here no more and would've killed himself. It's very hard to keep depressed for so long guys. It would've done a lot of damage to Max...Have some empathy. Not saying you can't hate/dislike the album. I'm saying that you can't bash the entire album just for your own selfishness, wanting back the old days. They play for you and THEMSELVES, especially a band/person like this. get it through your thick skulls.

Sometimes bands are just like athletes. They start out small on the playground, build up, get better, gradually get a following then they become professionals and either they'll have a long career as a star player, be a back up or sputter out of the league entirely. In the case of Say Anything, they made it to their Sophomore year in college before tearing their ACL & MCL, after they recovered, they reinjured themselves and now they're playing in the Arena League hoping to get a shot at the big game again. IMO

I myself I'm going to give the album a good listen but I think the band is just getting the negative out of the way. I don't feel like Max is complaining but is just letting people know that he does know what they say about the band and the direction its going. I don't think the next album will be anything like this. So I guess you could say this is a filler album.

Well, people and bands change, evolve if you will...Take for example The Beatles, when they started out they were pretty much One Direction (not as bad of course), they were a preppy group of teenage boys who sang Rock n' Roll, and in some cases sort of pop music...of course later they became older, matured, broke away from conformity and revolutionized music with their outrageous lyrics and trippy sounds...Say Anything has evolved as well, they were once a bunch of angst filled, raging teenagers, slowly became older and even more angry, and finally, Max has settled down (he got married, just had a kid) and subsequently isn't as angry at the world and isn't as "wild" (I couldn't find another word) as he was...Of course people have different opinions on things, and you're entitled to a opinion, but there's a reason behind the change in musical style. I mean I like all their work, just because it tells a story, it tells Max's story, but that's just me...Every band changes, whether for good or bad, is up to discussion.

You guys are all full of shit. They still have the same general sound, they are just more diverse now. I like the meaning of this song. Yes, Say Anything will get criticism for "changing", but don't we all? If bands didn't gradually change their sound, all music would sound the same and it would get old real fast. Have some respect.
